The 2025 Inter Miami CF season will be the sixth season for Inter Miami CF, a professional soccer team based in Miami, Florida, United States. The team plays in Major League Soccer (MLS), the top flight of club soccer in the United States, as a member of the Eastern Conference. The year also marks the 22nd season of first-division club soccer in South Florida. In addition to playing in the MLS regular season, Inter Miami CF will compete in the CONCACAF Champions Cup for the second time and the FIFA Club World Cup for the first time. [1]

Contents

The club are the defending Supporters' Shield champion, having set a record for most points in MLS history during the 2024 regular season. They qualified for the FIFA Club World Cup in the allocated slot for the host country and will play in the expanded tournament's opening match on June 15, 2025, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. [2] Inter Miami CF were eliminated from the 2024 MLS Cup playoffs in the first round by ninth-seeded Atlanta United FC. [1] The 2025 season will be the final year for the club at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, which will be replaced by Miami Freedom Park in 2026. [3]

Summary

Argentinian manager Gerardo "Tata" Martino resigned at the end of the 2024 season after two years at the club and was replaced on November 26 by Javier Mascherano, the former manager of the Argentina under-20 team. [4] [5] Sporting director Chris Henderson left Miami in December to join Atlanta United FC. [6] The team's captain, Argentinian midfielder Lionel Messi, has a contract through the end of the 2025 season. [7] The team has several key players who have contracts that are set to expire during the 2024–25 offseason, including striker Luis Suárez and defender Jordi Alba, who has a club option for 2025. [8]

The preseason for Inter Miami CF began on January 10 with players reporting to a training camp that expended to full sessions three days later. [9] The team played their first friendly match ten days later against Club América of Liga MX at Allegiant Stadium in the Las Vegas area. The teams drew 2–2 in regulation time and Inter Miami CF won 3–2 in the penalty shootout, which culminated in a winning kick by 17-year-old homegrown player Santiago Morales. [10] Inter Miami CF will play in three overseas friendlies organized by marketing agency Never Say Never (co-founded by Andrés Iniesta) before returning to the United States in February. [9] [11] Inter Miami CF and Orlando City SC will play a preseason friendly match on February 14 at Raymond James Stadium; it is the first MLS match at the stadium since the Tampa Bay Mutiny, an MLS team, folded in 2001. Regular season

The MLS regular season schedule was released on December 19, 2024. [15] Inter Miami CF will play 34 matches—17 at home and 17 away—primarily against the 14 other teams in the Western Conference; the team will also play six opponents from the Eastern Conference. The regular season will include a break for the FIFA Club World Cup in June and no break for the 2025 Leagues Cup in August. [16]

FIFA Club World Cup

Inter Miami CF qualified for the tournament as the host country representative team by winning the 2024 MLS Supporters' Shield. They will open the tournament at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens on June 14, 2025. [18]

Leagues Cup

Players

For the 2025 season, Inter Miami CF will have a base salary cap of $5.95 million with general allocation money and other targeted spending bringing the total to $11.11 million. MLS clubs are allowed to sign three senior Designated Players and three under-22 Designated Players to salaries that exceed the salary cap with a maximum budget charge of $743,750. [27]

The 2021 Inter Miami CF season was the second season in the history of Inter Miami CF and the 18th season of first-division club soccer in South Florida. In addition to playing in Major League Soccer, the club was scheduled to participate in the U.S. Open Cup but the competition was cancelled for the second consecutive year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2021 Seattle Sounders FC season was the club's thirty-eighth year of existence, and their thirteenth season in Major League Soccer, the top flight of American soccer. The team was under the management of Brian Schmetzer in his fifth full MLS season as head coach of the Sounders. Seattle were the reigning Western Conference champions and lost to Columbus Crew SC in the MLS Cup 3–0.

The 2022 Philadelphia Union season was the club's thirteenth season in Major League Soccer, the top flight of American soccer. The team is managed by Jim Curtin, his ninth season with the club. The club's regular season began on February 26, 2022, and concluded on October 9. Outside of MLS, the Union also competed in the 2022 U.S. Open Cup, entering in the Round of 32.

The 2022 Inter Miami CF season was the third season in the history of Inter Miami CF and the 19th season of first-division club soccer in South Florida. In addition to playing in Major League Soccer, the club participated in the U.S. Open Cup, the first cup competition in club history.

The 2023 Nashville SC season was the fourth season for Nashville SC as a member of Major League Soccer (MLS), the top flight of professional soccer in the United States. After finishing the 2022 season with a playoff berth and a first round exit, the club loaned out Designated Player and forward Aké Arnaud Loba to Mazatlán F.C. and made trades to add depth. Midfielder Hany Mukhtar had finished the previous season as the league's top goalscorer, earning the MLS Golden Boot with 23 goals, and was also won the most valuable player award.

The 2024 Inter Miami CF season was the fifth season in the history of Inter Miami CF and the 21st season of first-division club soccer in South Florida. The team were in their fifth year as a member of the Eastern Conference of Major League Soccer (MLS). In addition to playing in the MLS regular season, the club participated in the MLS Cup playoffs, in the CONCACAF Champions Cup for the first time, and in the Leagues Cup as defending champions.

The 2024 FC Cincinnati season was the club's sixth season in MLS, and the ninth season overall for the team including their first three years in the lower-division USL. The club entered 2024 as the defending Supporters' Shield winners, the award given to the team that finishes with the most points in the regular season.

The 2024 Columbus Crew season was the club's twenty-ninth season of existence and their twenty-ninth consecutive season in Major League Soccer, the top flight of soccer in the United States. It was their second season under head coach Wilfried Nancy. The Crew are defending MLS Cup champions, having won the 2023 MLS Cup against Los Angeles FC. On December 20, 2023, MLS released its schedule, with Columbus playing its opening match of the season against Atlanta United FC at home on February 24.

The 2024 season was the third season for Charlotte FC in Major League Soccer (MLS), the top flight of professional club soccer in the United States. The team is based in Charlotte, North Carolina, and was established in 2019. They made their MLS debut in the 2022 season. The 2024 season was their first for Charlotte FC under English head coach Dean Smith, who was hired in December 2023 and was the team's third manager.

The 2025 season is the upcoming 17th season for Seattle Sounders FC in Major League Soccer (MLS), the top flight of professional club soccer in the United States. It will be the 42nd season for a professional team bearing the Sounders name, which had originated in 1974 with the first incarnation of the franchise. The team will remain under the management of Brian Schmetzer in his ninth full MLS season as head coach of the Sounders.
