Avenged Sevenfold concert chronology |
The Avenged Sevenfold Tour was a concert tour by American heavy metal band Avenged Sevenfold between 2007 and 2009, promoting their album Avenged Sevenfold . It was the band's last tour with the drummer Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan who died on December 28, 2009.
The tour began on October 29, 2007, with a North American leg, shortly after the band finished its previous tour in support of City of Evil . The tour ended on August 2, 2009, at the Sonisphere Festival in Knebworth, England.
During the band's North American leg in autumn 2008, after a show on September 6, 2008, the vocalist M. Shadows had difficulties singing, and flew to see his doctor, cancelling the Baltimore show the next day. The whole co-headlining tour with Buckcherry was then cancelled because of Shadows' case of vocal fatigue. The band resumed the tour after Shadows took some rest, with a short Japanese leg starting on October 15, 2008, and then on November 4, 2008, the band rescheduled its cancelled North American leg and played through November and December a co-headlining tour with Buckcherry and the support acts Shinedown and Saving Abel, in place of the cancelled tour.
The summer leg 2008 was as an opening act for Iron Maiden. The band also played three dates in June 2009, in support of Metallica.
During the band's headlining of the North American Taste of Chaos 2008 tour, it recorded the April 10, 2008, performance, for its first live DVD, entitled Live in the LBC & Diamonds in the Rough , which was a bundle of a live DVD, and a CD of B-sides and unreleased tracks from the Avenged Sevenfold album.
On 16 April 2009, Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash joined the band on stage to play a cover version of the Guns N' Roses song "It's So Easy".

The band is currently composed of Matthew Tuck, Michael Paget, Jason Bowld (drums) and Jamie Mathias (bass). Former members include Michael Thomas, Jason James and Nick Crandle; the latter were on bass. They were formed under the name Jeff Killed John and started their music career by covering songs by Metallica and Nirvana. Jeff Killed John recorded six songs which were not released; two of these tracks were reworked later in their career as Bullet for My Valentine. A change of style from that of Jeff Killed John led the band to change their name. In 2002, the band secured a five-album deal with Sony BMG. City of Evil is the third studio album by American heavy metal band Avenged Sevenfold, released on June 6, 2005, through Warner Bros. and Hopeless Records. Co-produced by Andrew Murdock, City of Evil contains a more traditional heavy metal and hard rock sound than Avenged Sevenfold's previous two albums, which showcased a predominantly metalcore sound. The album title is derived from a lyric in the song, "Beast and the Harlot". The album is notable for the absence of fry vocals. M. Shadows worked for months before the album's release with vocal coach Ron Anderson, whose clients have included Axl Rose and Chris Cornell, to achieve a sound that had "grit while still having the tone". In order to increase stamina and strength on the pedals, The Rev would sit for hours practicing until he could get up to 210 beats per minute.
Matthew Charles Sanders, known by his stage name M. Shadows, is an American singer and songwriter. He is the lead vocalist and a founding member of heavy metal band Avenged Sevenfold. In 2017, Shadows was voted third in the list of Top 25 Greatest Modern Frontmen by Ultimate Guitar.

Formed in Huntington Beach, California in 1999, the band originally featured vocalist M. Shadows, guitarist Zacky Vengeance, bassist Matt Wendt and drummer The Rev. Synyster Gates joined as lead guitarist in 2001, just after the group released their debut album Sounding the Seventh Trumpet on Good Life Recordings, which was later reissued on Hopeless Records.

It is also their final album to feature the involvement of Hopeless. Originally slated for an October 16 release, it was delayed by two weeks in order to provide more time to complete bonus material and production for the record.
