The Elkader Downtown Historic District is a nationally recognized historic district located in Elkader, Iowa, United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012. [1] The district cover's the city's central business district, mainly along Main Street, but also along the intersecting side streets as well. Main Street slopes from north to south with a steep drop toward the Turkey River on the east side of the district. [2] Most of the buildings are masonry, two-story, Victorian structures. There are some one- and three-story buildings as well. The Elkader Opera House (1903), which is located in the district, is individually listed on the National Register.

West Jefferson Street Historic District United States historic place

The West Jefferson Street Historic District is five commercial blocks on the west side of downtown Burlington, Iowa, United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. In 2015 the area was included in the Downtown Commercial Historic District. West Jefferson Street was the main thoroughfare in the late 19th century and early 20th century through the Hawkeye Creek Valley. It led from the central business district along the Mississippi River to the Agency Road that headed westward out of town. The historic district is mostly made up of commercial buildings that range from single story structures to four story brick buildings, many of which have stone and terra cotta details. There is also a single frame building. A significant number of the structures are Italianate in style. The historic combined Fire and Police Station is also part of the district. At the time of its nomination there were 63 buildings in the district, of which 49 were contributing properties.

Downtown Commercial Historic District (Burlington, Iowa) United States historic place

The Downtown Commercial Historic District encompasses most of the central business district of Burlington, Iowa, United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015. The historic district includes 65 properties that were part of a 2012 to 2013 survey of the area. It also includes as contributing properties the buildings in the West Jefferson Street Historic District and three buildings in the Manufacturing and Wholesale Historic District that were previously listed on the National Register. All total there are 122 resources within the district, which includes 108 contributing and 14 non-contributing properties.

Upper Main Street Historic District (Dubuque, Iowa) United States historic place

Upper Main Street Historic District is a nationally recognized historic district located in Dubuque, Iowa, United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. At the time of its nomination it consisted of 24 resources, which included 18 contributing buildings, and six non-contributing buildings. In 2011 the boundaries of the district were expanded to include four additional buildings on the west side of the 900 block of Main Street. The district is the northern end of the city's most important commercial street. It is situated on a level terrace above the downtown area, located to the east. The buildings located on the east side of Main Street have exposed foundations along the alley because the grade descends in that direction. For the most part the district is made up of commercial buildings, although there is one house, four rowhouses, and a church. All of the buildings are masonry construction, and they are between one and four stories tall. The bell tower of St. Luke's United Methodist Church (1896) is equivalent to an eight-story building. St. Luke's Church and the Interstate Power Company Building are individually listed on the National Register.

Ames Main Street Historic District is a nationally recognized historic district located in Ames, Iowa, United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2018. At the time of its nomination it consisted of 81 resources, which included 76 contributing buildings, and 15 non-contributing buildings. The district covers most of the city's central business district. The area began to develop after the Civil War along the Chicago and North Western (CNW) tracks. The district was also served by the Ames & College Railway and its successor, the Fort Dodge, Des Moines, & Southern Interurban Streetcar line, from 1891 to 1929. The later connected downtown Ames and the CNW depot with Iowa State College, now known as Iowa State University.

Lisbon Main Street Historic District United States historic place

The Lisbon Main Street Historic District is a nationally recognized historic district located in Lisbon, Iowa, United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2019. At the time of its nomination it consisted of 15 contributing buildings along most of the 100 blocks of East and West Main Street in the central business district. The city was settled by German immigrants who were affiliated with the United Brethren Church. They recruited others from their home area to settle here as well. The railroad was built through town in 1859, and commercial development began thereafter. Most of the historic buildings were constructed between 1875 and 1899 with the Lisbon Library being the oldest.

Davenport Downtown Commercial Historic District United States historic place

The Davenport Downtown Commercial Historic District is a nationally recognized historic district located in the central business district of Davenport, Iowa, United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2020. At the time of its nomination it consisted of 43 resources, which included 33 contributing buildings, one contributing structure, and nine non-contributing buildings. In addition, the district also contains 33 buildings that are individually listed on the National Register. This historic district is bordered by four other districts: the Crescent Warehouse Historic District and the Davenport Motor Row and Industrial Historic District on the east, the Hamburg Historic District to the northwest, and the West Third Street Historic District on the west.
