Formula Regional Australia is a planned Australian motor racing series using Formula Regional cars.
The new series was announced in November 2024 for the 2025 season. [1]
It will be sanctioned by Motorsport Australia and is promoted by Tim Macrow, [1] the organiser of Australian Formula Open, another Australian open-wheel racing series using older Formula 3 and Formula 4 cars.
It is not yet clear whether the new series will be given official Formula Regional Status by the FIA, nor whether (and how many) FIA Super Licence or Motorsport Australia Superlicence points will be awarded to series participants.
The series will use the Tatuus FT-60 cars currently used for the Formula Regional Oceania Championship, which is based in New Zealand and runs in the southern hemisphere summer, leaving them available for use much of the year. However, additional entries using cars sourced from elsewhere will be permitted, along with an Invitational class using older Formula Regional vehicles [2]

Formula Two is a type of open-wheel formula racing category first codified in 1948. It was replaced in 1985 by Formula 3000, but revived by the FIA from 2009–2012 in the form of the FIA Formula Two Championship. The name returned again in 2017 when the former GP2 Series became known as the FIA Formula 2 Championship.
Circuit Ricardo Tormo, also known as Circuit de Valencia and officially named Circuit de la Comunitat Valenciana Ricardo Tormo, is a 4.005 km (2.489 mi) motorsport race track located in Cheste and built in 1999. The track is named after Spanish, two-time world champion Grand Prix motorcycle racer Ricardo Tormo (1952–1998), who died in 1998 of leukemia. It has a capacity of 165,000 and a main straight of 0.876 km (0.544 mi).
Hitech Grand Prix or Hitech GP is a British motor racing team. It was founded in 2002 by Dennis Rushen and David Hayle. The team started racing in the British Formula 3 Championship in 2003. The team also competed in the South American Formula Three Series, namely the Formula 3 Sudamericana. Currently the team competes in the FIA Formula 2 Championship, FIA Formula 3 Championship, GB3 Championship, Formula Regional Middle East Championship and will compete in F1 Academy in 2025.
The Formula Regional Oceania Championship is New Zealand's premier formula racing category. The series includes races for every major trophy in New Zealand circuit racing including the New Zealand Motor Cup and the Denny Hulme Memorial Trophy. The cars are also the category for the New Zealand Grand Prix – one of only two races in the world with FIA approval to use the Grand Prix nomenclature outside Formula One. The series was formerly known as the Toyota Racing Series until 2023.
Prema Racing, previously known as Prema Powerteam, is an Italian motorsport team. It operates in the FIA Formula 2 Championship and FIA Formula 3 Championship as well as various junior championships. In 2022 the team made its FIA World Endurance Championship and European Le Mans Series entries, beginning the efforts in the endurance racing. The team was founded in 1983 and is located in Grisignano di Zocco, in the Veneto region. Prema has been a talent pool for several Formula 1 junior programs: from Toyota and Renault in the early days; to Alpine, Ferrari, McLaren, Mercedes, Red Bull, and Williams in recent years. For 2023, the team will enter nine championships, fielding a total of 28 drivers. Prema is also set to participate in the IndyCar Series from 2025.
The GB3 Championship is a single seater motorsport series based in the United Kingdom. The championship is the UK's premier single-seater category, and is aimed at young racing drivers moving up from FIA Formula 4 championships, the GB4 Championship or Karting. Having previously been known since 2013 as the BRDC Formula 4 Championship, the championship was renamed the BRDC British Formula 3 Championship with the backing of the FIA in March 2016. The championship was rebranded to GB3 Championship in August 2021.
Formula E, officially the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, is an open-wheel single-seater motorsport championship for electric cars. The racing series is the highest class of competition for electrically powered single-seater racing cars. The inaugural championship race was held in Beijing in September 2014. Since 2020, the series has had FIA world championship status.
FIA Formula 4, also called FIA F4, is an open-wheel racing car category intended for junior drivers. There is no global championship, but rather individual nations or regions can host their own championships in compliance with a universal set of rules and specifications.
The F4 British Championship is a single-seater motorsport series based in the United Kingdom. The series is run to the FIA's Formula 4 regulations, and is administered by Motorsport UK. The championship is designed as a low-cost entrance to car racing, and is aimed at young racing drivers moving up from karting.
Formula 4 Australian Championship Certified by FIA is an Australian motor racing series for open-wheel cars complying with FIA Formula 4 regulations. The inaugural championship, known as the CAMS Jayco Australian Formula 4 Championship, was organised from 2015 to 2019. The series was revived by a new promoter in 2024.
The Bend Motorsport Park, currently known as Shell V-Power Motorsport Park for naming rights reasons, is a 7.770 km (4.828 mi) bitumen motor racing circuit at Tailem Bend, South Australia, Australia, about 100 km (62 mi) south-east of the state capital, Adelaide.
The Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine (FRECA) is a FIA-certified regional European Formula 3 racing series. On 12 October 2018, it was announced that the Italian autosport regulator Automobile Club d'Italia (ACI) and karting promoter WSK would organize the inaugural year of the championship in 2019. Their bid was chosen over Renault Sport's bid with the same chassis, who attracted fewer votes from Single-Seater Commission members. Following the 2020 season, the Formula Renault Eurocup merged with the Formula Regional European Championship to become the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine.
Thomas Smith is an Australian racing driver who is set to compete in the 2025 Indy NXT with HMD Motorsports. He previously competed in the FIA Formula 3 Championship in 2023 and 2024 with Van Amersfoort Racing. Prior, he raced with Douglas Motorsport in the 2022 GB3 Championship, having won one race & scoring two podium finishes.
Formula Regional (FR) is an FIA-approved moniker for certified regional one-make Formula Three championships with the concept being approved during the FIA World Motor Sport Council meeting in December 2017. The first series under new regulations were launched in Asia and North America in 2018, followed by European counterpart in 2019 and Japanese in 2020. On 13 December 2022, the Toyota Racing Series was rebranded as the Formula Regional Oceania Championship.
Tim Tramnitz is a German racing driver who is set to compete in the 2025 FIA Formula 3 Championship for MP Motorsport, having competed with the team in 2024. He is the 2021 Italian F4 and ADAC F4 runner-up, and he also finished third in the 2023 Formula Regional European Championship.
The FIA TCR World Tour is an international touring car racing series for TCR cars. It was formed for 2023 to effectively replace the WTCR series, and received FIA status for its second season in 2024. A season consists of several rounds selected from various regional and national TCR series, where a group of full-season drivers and teams compete against local entries, with both able to score points for the TCR World Tour standings.
The 2025 FIA Formula One World Championship is a planned motor racing championship for Formula One cars which will be the 76th running of the Formula One World Championship. It is recognised by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), the governing body of international motorsport, as the highest class of competition for open-wheel racing cars. The championship will be contested over twenty-four Grands Prix held around the world. It is scheduled to begin in March and end in December.

The championship is the fifty-ninth season of Formula 2 racing and the ninth season run under the FIA Formula 2 Championship moniker. It is an open-wheel racing category serving as the second tier of formula racing in the FIA Global Pathway. The category is scheduled to be run in support of selected rounds of the 2025 Formula One World Championship. As the championship is a spec series, all teams and drivers competing in the championship will run the same car, the Dallara F2 2024.

The championship is the sixteenth season of Formula 3 racing and the seventh season run under the FIA Formula 3 Championship moniker. It is an open-wheel racing category serving as the third tier of formula racing in the FIA Global Pathway. The category will be run in support of selected rounds of the 2025 FIA Formula One World Championship. As the championship is a spec series, all teams and drivers competing in the championship will run the same car.
The 2025 Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine is a planned multi-event, Formula Regional open-wheel single seater motor racing championship scheduled to be held across Europe. The championship will feature a mix of professional and amateur drivers, competing in Formula Regional cars that conform to the FIA Formula Regional regulations for the championship. This will be the seventh season of the championship and the fifth after a merger with Formula Renault Eurocup which resulted in the change of the engine supplier to Alpine.
