Pella is one of the regional units of Greece, in the geographic region of Macedonia. It is part of the Region of Central Macedonia. It is named after the ancient city of Pella, the capital of ancient Macedonia and the birthplace of Alexander the Great. The capital of Pella is Edessa with a population of 19,036 inhabitants according to the census of 2011, while the largest city and industrial and commercial center is Giannitsa with 29,789 inhabitants. Other centers are the towns Krya Vrisi, Aridaia and Skydra.
Central Macedonia is one of the thirteen administrative regions of Greece, consisting of the central part of the geographical and historical region of Macedonia. With a population of almost 1.9 million, it is the second most populous in Greece after Attica.
The provinces of Greece were sub-divisions of some the country's prefectures. From 1887, the provinces were abolished as actual administrative units, but were retained for some state services, especially finance services and education, as well as for electoral purposes. Before the Second World War, there were 139 provinces, and after the war, with the addition of the Dodecanese Islands, their number grew to 147. According to the Article 7 of the Code of Prefectural Self-Government, the provinces constituted a "particular administrative district" within the wider "administrative district" of the prefectures. The provinces were finally abolished after the 2006 local elections, in line with Law 2539/1997, as part of the wide-ranging administrative reform known as the "Kapodistrias Project", and replaced by enlarged municipalities (demoi).

The Roman province of Macedonia was officially established in 146 BC, after the Roman general Quintus Caecilius Metellus defeated Andriscus of Macedon, the last self-styled King of the ancient kingdom of Macedonia in 148 BC, and after the four client republics established by Rome in the region were dissolved. The province incorporated the former kingdom of Macedonia with the addition of Epirus, Thessaly, and parts of Illyria, Paeonia and Thrace. Damiano is a small village outside the town of Giannitsa, in Greece's Pella regional unit. Axos is a village in the municipal unit Kyrros, Pella regional unit, Central Macedonia, Greece, 4 km from the city of Giannitsa and 52 km from Thessaloniki. The village is home to the football club Niki Axou. From Axos originates the footballer Marios Nikolaidis.
The Archaeological Museum of Pella is a museum in Pella in the Pella regional unit of Central Macedonia. The building was designed by architect Kostas Skroumpellos and is on the site of the ancient city of Pella. It was completed in 2009 with the support of the Greece's Third Community Support Framework.
The Loudias or Lydias (Λυδίας), popularly called Mavroneri is a river in Central Macedonia that flows through the regional units of Pella and Thessaloniki.
Giannitsa Football Club was a Greek football club, based in Giannitsa, Pella, Greece. The club was established in 2018, after Doxa Mavrovouni F.C. renamed and relocated in Giannitsa in order to compete in 2018-19 Gamma Ethniki. At July 2019 the club merged with the most important club of the town, Anagennisi Giannitsa.
