Kampung Melayu is a TransJakarta bus rapid transit station located below the K.H. Abdullah Syafei overpass, at the middle of the interchange between Abdullah Syafei, Oto Iskandar di Nata, and Jatinegara Barat/Timur streets in Kampung Melayu, Jatinegara, East Jakarta, Indonesia. This is the terminus and transit point between corridors 5, 7, and 11.

It stands on the former site of an open-air bus terminal for Kopaja, Metromini, and angkot/mikrolet routes. Since all those modes (except some angkot/mikrolet) ceased operating and converted into TransJakarta routes, the terminal currently serves TransJakarta services and remaining mikrolet routes.

History

The Kampung Melayu BRT station was built below the Abdullah Syafei overpass, which used to be the platform bay area of the original terminal (as seen on the remainings of signages placed on the south side of the overpass girder).^{[ citation needed ]} It began operational on 27 January 2007, simultaneously with the opening of corridors 5 and 7. The original building was built with aluminium and steel structure, but it had an uneven steel slab floors.

On 23 December 2022, TransJakarta announced that the Kampung Melayu BRT station would be closed for revitalization on 7 January 2023.^[1] It was carried out to enlarge the station's capacity. As the impact, the three main corridors have to be temporarily readjusted, namely corridor 5 shortened to Matraman Baru, corridor 7 shortened to Bidara Cina, and corridor 11 extended to Matraman 1 (later shortened to Matraman Baru). Apart from that, TransJakarta provides the 7ST (Kampung Melayu–Matraman 1, later Bidara Cina–Matraman Baru) temporary shuttle route for affected passengers.^[1]^[2] On the first day of revitalization, there were numbers of passengers that didn't know about the revitalization.^[3]

On 19 July 2023, Kampung Melayu BRT station was reopened to the public and all the three affected main corridors returned to terminate at this station. The result of the revitalization was praised by passengers.^[4]^[5]

Building and layout

Kampung Melayu BRT station now consist of north, south, west, and east platforms, with 21 platform bays/gates. The east platform was newly-built during the revitalization. North platform is used for corridors 5 and 11, south platform for corridor 7, and west and east platforms for corridors 5C and 5D.^[6]

The station's floor is now flat.^[4] For the architectural design, the new building is dominated with glass walls to provide more natural lighting from the sunlight. It has a futuristic design, where the platform bays resemble squicles and the building is painted in beige and grey.

Non-BRT bus services

The north side of the BRT station is used as the terminus of TransJakarta's non-BRT bus routes, while the south side is used as the terminus and pool of Mikrotrans routes. Some non-BRT bus routes are the successors of Kopaja and MetroMini, while Mikrotrans routes (using microbus fleets) are the successors of angkot/mikrolet routes.^[6]

Incidents

On 24 May 2017, the Kampung Melayu BRT station was destructed by two bomb explosions, where the glass were destructed. Two bombing preperator and three police officers were killed, with 11 people injured.^[7]^[8] Because of the bombing, corridors 5 and 11 temporarily terminates at Jatinegara RS Premier (now Jatinegara) and corridor 7 terminates at Bidara Cina.^{[ citation needed ]}

On 29 May 2017, five days after the bombing, Kampung Melayu station resumed its operational normally.^[9]

Transjakarta or Jakarta BRT is a bus rapid transit (BRT) system in Jakarta, Indonesia. The first BRT system in Southeast Asia, it commenced operations on 15 January 2004 to provide a fast public transport system to help reduce rush hour traffic. The system is considered as the first revolutionary public transit mode in the capital city of Indonesia. The buses run in dedicated lanes (busways), and ticket prices are subsidised by the regional government. Transjakarta has the world's longest BRT system, which operates about 4,300 buses. Jatinegara Station (JNG) is a large type A-class railway station located on the border between Jatinegara and Matraman in Pisangan Baru Subdistrict, Matraman, East Jakarta. The station is the main entrance to Jakarta from cities east of Jakarta. Jatinegara station is operated by Kereta Api Indonesia and KAI Commuter.

The MetroMini minibus system was a major part of the public transport system of Jakarta. There were reportedly over 3,000 buses in the MetroMini fleet in mid-2012. The buses are similar to the parallel Kopaja system which also provides transport services, on different routes, across Jakarta. The distinctive MetroMini buses are orange and blue with a white stripe running along the length of the bus. Buses provide seating for around 20-30 people with, often, an equal number crammed into limited standing room so the buses are often overcrowded. But at 2015 Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama stopped all of MetroMini's bus operations because of a MetroMini vs KRL Commuter Line crash. If MetroMini wants to operate again, it has to join Transjakarta like the Kopaja as a feeder bus. Many routes are/will replaced/replaced by Minitrans and Metrotrans buses.

The Transjakarta Corridor 1 is the Transjakarta bus rapid transit route in Jakarta, Indonesia. The route operates between Blok M Terminal and Jakarta Kota railway station. It is the first route of the Transjakarta BRT system. The roads that are traversed by Corridor 1 are along Jalan Sultan Hasanuddin, Trunojoyo, Sisingamangaraja, Sudirman, MH Thamrin, Medan Merdeka Barat, Gajah Mada / Hayam Wuruk, Pintu Besar Utara, Kali Besar Barat, Kunir, and Lada Dalam. Key integration points include Dukuh Atas TOD that is currently an integration point for four transport modes, Jakarta Kota station which serves KRL Commuterline, and Harmoni station that is one of the main hubs in the BRT system. Transjakarta Corridor 8 is a bus rapid transit corridor in Jakarta, Indonesia, operated by Transjakarta. It serves the route from Lebak Bulus, South Jakarta to the Pasar Baru BRT station in Central Jakarta. The corridor traverses along Pasar Jumat, Ciputat Raya, TB Simatupang, Metro Pondok Indah, Arteri Pondok Indah, Teuku Nyak Arif, Letjen Supeno, Panjang, Daan Mogot, Letjen S. Parman, Tomang Raya, Balikpapan, Suryopranoto, Ir. Hj. Djuanda, and Pos streets, and terminates at Pasar Baru. Then continues via Gedung Kesenian, Lapangan Banteng Utama, and Katedral streets towards Lebak Bulus. This corridor is integrated with KRL Commuterline at Kebayoran railway station which serves the Rangkasbitung Line via Kebayoran BRT station, Tangerang Line at Pesing railway station via Damai BRT station, and Bogor Line at Juanda railway station via Juanda BRT station. CSW-ASEAN TOD is a public transit interchange station and transit-oriented development zone between four TransJakarta BRT stations and the ASEAN MRT station on the old Centrale Stichting Wederopbouw or CSW intersection at Kebayoran Baru, Jakarta, Indonesia. This building is a circular crossing bridge with an art-deco architecture that connects four Transjakarta BRT stations located to the west, east and south of the intersection and the ASEAN MRT station to the north of the intersection. This building began to open on December 22, 2021 as an operational trial for the integration of integrated highway bus services and integrated highway modes.

Transjakarta Corridor 9 is a bus rapid transit corridor in Jakarta, Indonesia, operated by Transjakarta. The corridor connects the Pinang Ranti bus terminal in East Jakarta with the Pluit BRT station in North Jakarta. The roads traversed by Corridor 9 are: Jalan Pondok Gede Raya, Jagorawi Toll Road, Jalan Mayjen Sutoyo, Jalan Letjen M.T. Haryono, Jalan Jend. Gatot Subroto, Jalan Letjen S. The Transjakarta Corridor 7 is a bus rapid transit corridor in East Jakarta, Jakarta, Indonesia, operated by Transjakarta. It connects the Kampung Rambutan Bus Terminal in Ciracas to the Kampung Melayu Bus Terminal in Jatinegara. The streets that passed by Corridor 7 are Gedong Timur/Barat, Raya Bogor, Mayjen Sutoyo, MT Haryono, and Otto Iskandardinata streets. This corridor is the only Transjakarta corridor that is not integrated with the KRL Commuterline system, because the distance between the Kampung Melayu station and the nearest Commuterline station, Tebet, is quite far.

The Matraman Station (MTR) is the KRL Commuterline train station located on the border between Kebon Manggis, Matraman and Kampung Melayu, Jatinegara, East Jakarta, Indonesia. This station is adjacent to the Gunung Antang localization area and was built as the part of the Manggarai–Cikarang doubled-double track project.

The Transjakarta Corridor 11 is a bus rapid transit corridor in East Jakarta, Jakarta, Indonesia, operated by Transjakarta. It connects the Pulo Gebang Bus Terminal in Cakung, with the Kampung Melayu Bus Terminal in Jatinegara. The streets that passed by Corridor 11 are Sentra Primer Timur, Dr. Sumarno, Penggilingan, I Gusti Ngurah Rai, Bekasi Barat/Timur, and Jatinegara Barat/Timur streets. The station's name came from the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout which is located nearby the station.
