Initially 250 acres (1.0 km2), it was expanded to 600 acres (2.4 km2) in 1905, but reduced to 461 acres (1.87 km2) in 1912, when a portion was sold to the neighboring Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

This title was one rank below Honored Artist of the RSFSR and one above People's Artist of the USSR.
