List of ports in Pakistan

This is a list of ports in Pakistan. There are three international seaports, seventeen dry ports, twelve fishing harbours, and five military ports.

Seaports

All seaports in Pakistan are maintained and governed by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs of the Government of Pakistan. The three largest ports each have their own port authority.

Dry ports

Apart from the seaports, there are a number of dry ports, located elsewhere in the country, which allow goods to undergo customs checks away from the dock side. [1] Six major dry ports are run by Pakistan Railways: [2]

There are a number of fish harbours, most of which were built from 2002 onwards but have been controversial because of damage to the local environments. The harbours are managed by the provincial fisheries departments of Sindh and Balochistan. [4]

Gwadar is a port city on the southwestern coast of the Pakistani province of Balochistan. The city is located on the shores of the Arabian Sea, opposite Oman and has a population of over 90,000, according to the 2017 census. It was an overseas possession of Oman from 1783 to 1958. It is about 120 km (75 mi) southwest of Turbat. The sister port city of Chabahar in Iran's Sistan ve Baluchestan province is about 170 km (110 mi) to the west of Gwadar. On 2 April 2021, it was declared the winter capital of Balochistan.

The Port of Karachi is one of South Asia's largest and busiest deep-water seaports, handling about 60% of the nation's cargo located in Karachi, Pakistan. It is located on the Karachi Harbour, between Kiamari Azra Langri, Manora, and Kakapir, and close to Karachi's main business district and several industrial areas. The geographic position of the port places it in close proximity to major shipping routes such as the Strait of Hormuz. It is also ideally located to offer gateway services to the maritime trade for the Central Asian Republics (CARs). The administration of the port is carried out by the Karachi Port Trust, which was established in 1857.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Gadani</span> Town in Balochistan, Pakistan

Gadani is a coastal town of Hub Districtlocated in the southern part of Balochistan along the Arabian Sea, Pakistan. and is just a 1-hour drive away from Karachi. The population of Gadani was estimated to be around 17,540 in 2023. More than 97% of the population is Muslim with a small Hindu minority. The majority of the population speaks Balochi, Brahui languages and there is a small Lasi speaking minority. They belong to the Sanghur, Kurd, Sajdi, Muhammad Hasni, Gurginari and Bezinjo tribes.

The Karachi Fish Harbour is a port located in Keamari District, which is part of Karachi Division, Sindh province, Pakistan. Over 90 percent of the Pakistan's fish and seafood catch and exports pass through the harbour.

Gadani Fish Harbour is a fish harbour located in Gadani, the Hub District of Balochistan Province, southern Pakistan.

The city of Karachi is a major transport hub of Pakistan. The Karachi port and airport are major gateways to Pakistan. The Karachi Railway stations transports the major part of Pakistan's trade with other countries.

The Port of Pasni is located in the town of Pasni, Gwadar District, Balochistan province, Pakistan. The facilities include a modern fish harbour with four piers and a cargo jetty, together a coast guard base called PMSA Rishad, which is operated by the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency. The port has been suffering from silting since at least 2003, with unsuccessful attempts at clearing the harbour.

Somiani is a coastal town in the southeastern Balochistan (Pakistan), located approximately 145 kilometres northwest of Karachi. Its coast marks the northernmost point of the Arabian Sea, and Sonmiani Beach is a popular destination for visitors from Karachi. The town also serves as the administrative centre (Tehsil) of Hub District. Sonmiani is notable for its space research and development, housing Somiani Spaceport. Additionally, the Pakistan Economic Coordination Commission has announced plans to build a liquid natural gas (LNG) terminal in the area.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Jinnah Naval Base</span>

Jinnah Naval Base is a strategic naval base of the Pakistan Navy located at Ormara, Balochistan, Pakistan. It is named after Pakistan's founder, Mohammad Ali Jinnah. It is Pakistan's second largest naval base.

Renewable energy in Pakistan is a relatively underdeveloped sector; however, in recent years, there has been more and more interest to explore renewable energy resources for the energy production. Around 10.57% of Pakistan’s total installed power generation capacity comes renewables. Most of Pakistan's renewable energy comes from hydroelectricity. As per the vision of the Prime Minister, there is the aim to “induct 20% of RE by the year 2025 and 30% of RE by the year 2030.”

The economy of Balochistan, one of the four provinces of Pakistan, is largely based upon the production of natural gas, coal, and minerals. Agriculture and livestock also dominate the Baloch economy. Horticultural development is a fairly recent, yet growing phenomenon. Other important economic sectors include fisheries, mining, manufacturing industries, trade and other services being rendered by public and private sector organizations in the province.

Tourism in Balochistan is a developing industry, and is overseen by the Tourism Directorate under the Government of Balochistan. Balochistan is known for its long coastal belt which extends from Karachi through Sonmiani, Ormara, Kalmat, Pasni, Gwadar, Jiwani and all the way up to Iran. It is also popular for its hill tops and rugged mountainous terrain.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Port Grand</span> Recreational area in Karachi, Pakistan

Port Grand Food and Drink and Entertainment Complex is a recreational area built in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. It is located along the waterfront of the 19th century Native Jetty Bridge that connects the Karachi Port Trust to Keamari and spans the western end of Chinna Creek to the Harbour. The project was a result of joint efforts made by the Karachi Port Trust and a private company Grand Leisure Corporation. The complex was opened for public on 28 May 2011, with then Governor of Sindh, Ishratul Ibad inaugurating the complex. The complex is a hub of shopping, dining, cultural and coastal recreational activities in the city.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Pishukan</span> Pakistani town

Pishukan, is a town on the western shore of the Gwadar West Bay, north of the Arabian Sea, in Pakistan. It is a union council of Gwadar Tehsil in the Gwadar District of Balochistan province. The town has a population of 12,000.

Gwadar East Bay Expressway is a municipal expressway in Gwadar, Balochistan, Pakistan. The six lane expressway was inaugurated by Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif on 3 June 2022. It connects Gwadar Port to the Makran Coastal Highway. The Gwadar Port Authority is supervising the project.
