The United Sabah Party is a political party of Sabah. The PBS was founded by Joseph Pairin Kitingan in 1985 and it is Sabah's oldest local party. In August 2020,PBS confirmed that they would be using their own logo and flag until Sabah's local coalition is established under Registrar of Societies (RoS). In 2022,Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) is the only Sabah's local coalition that has been successfully registered under the Registrar of Societies (RoS) making PBS interested in using the coalition's logo and becoming part of the coalition's component.
Datuk Zakaria bin Mohd Edris is a Malaysian politician who served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Libaran from May 2018 to November 2022,State Assistant Minister of Housing and Local Government of Sabah in the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration under former Chief Minister Musa Aman from 2013 to 2018 and Member of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Gum-Gum from March 2004 to May 2018. He is a former member of Malaysian United Indigenous Party (BERSATU),an official main component party of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) and a former component party of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition also a former component party of Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition. He also a former member of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO),a component party of the BN coalition. He left UMNO to be an independent in 2018 and later joined BERSATU in 2019 until 2023. In 2023,he officially became the member of Sabah People's Ideas Party,the main component party of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) along with 7 other parties.
Yamani Hafez bin Musa is a Malaysian politician who served as the Deputy Minister of Finance II in the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration under former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and former Minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz from August 2021 to the collapse of the BN administration in November 2022,Member of Parliament (MP) for Sipitang from May 2018 to November 2022 and Chairman of FELCRA Berhad from July 2020 to September 2021. In 2019 until 2022,He was a former member of the Malaysian United Indigenous Party (BERSATU),a component of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition. He is also the son of Musa Aman,the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sabah and former Chief Minister of Sabah. In 2023,He is an official member of the Sabah People's Ideas Party,a component of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition.
General elections were held in Malaysia on Saturday,19 November 2022. The prospect of snap elections had been considered high due to the political crisis that had been ongoing since 2020;political instability caused by coalition or party switching among members of Parliament,combined with the fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic,contributed to the resignation of two prime ministers and the collapse of each of their respective coalition governments since the 2018 general elections.
The 2020–2022 Malaysian political crisis was triggered after several Members of Parliament (MPs) of the 14th Malaysian Parliament changed party support,leading to the loss of a parliamentary majority,the collapse of two successive coalition governments,and the resignation of two Prime Ministers. The political crisis culminated in a 2022 snap general election and eventual formation of a coalition government. This crisis ended in 2022 and Malaysian political crisis continued in the State of Sabah known as 2023 Kinabalu Move.
The 2020 Sabah state election took place on 26 September 2020 to elect all 73 elected members of the 16th Sabah State Legislative Assembly. The previous Assembly was dissolved on 30 July 2020.
Hajiji bin Haji Noor is a Malaysian politician who has served as the 16th Chief Minister of Sabah since 2020 and Member of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Sulaman since 1990. He is also the first official chairman of political coalition party in Sabah,the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah Party and 3rd President of the Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (GAGASAN).
Datuk Ellron bin Angin is a Malaysian politician who has been the State Minister of Rural Development briefly in 2018 and currently the incumbent State Minister of Youth and Sports since 2020 in the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) state administration under Chief Minister Hajiji Noor. He has served as the Member of Sabah State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Sook since March 2008. He is formerly a member of the Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS),a component party of the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition and currently a member of the Homeland Solidarity Party (STAR) since 2018,a component party of the (GRS) and formerly Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalitions.
Mohd. Arifin bin Mohd. Arif is a Malaysian politician who is serving as the State Minister of Science,Technology and Innovation. Previously,he served as State Minister of Special Tasks. He has served as the Member of Sabah State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Membakut since March 2004. He is a member and one of the Vice Presidents of the Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (GAGASAN),a component party of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition.
Ben Chong Chen Bin is a Malaysian politician who has served as Member of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Tanjong Kapor since May 2018. He served as the State Assistant Minister of Trade and Industry of Sabah in the Heritage Party (WARISAN) state administration under former Chief Minister Shafie Apdal and former State Minister Wilfred Madius Tangau from May 2018 to the collapse of WARISAN state administration in September 2020. He is an independent in support of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition until February 21,2023. He is an official member of the GAGASAN,the major component of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) since 2023.
Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe also known as Ginger Phoong is a Malaysian politician who has served as the State Minister of Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship of Sabah in the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) state administration under Chief Minister Hajiji Noor since February 2023 and Member of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Luyang since May 2018. He served as the State Minister of Industrial Development of Sabah in the GRS state administration under Chief Minister Hajiji from January 2023 to February 2023,State Minister of Youth and Sports of Sabah in the Heritage Party (WARISAN) administration under former Chief Minister Shafie Apdal from May 2019 to the collapse of the WARISAN administration in September 2020. He is a member and the State Chairman of Sabah of the Democratic Action Party (DAP),a component party of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition. He was also the Youth Chief of DAP of Sabah or known as Chief of the DAP Socialist Youth,the youth wing of the party.
Jannie Lasimbang is a Malaysian politician who has served as Chairwoman of the Rural Development Corporation (KPD) of Sabah since February 2023 and Member of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Kapayan since May 2018. She served as the State Assistant Minister of Law and Native Affairs of Sabah in the Heritage Party (WARISAN) state administration under former Chief Minister Shafie Apdal and former Minister Aidi Moktar from May 2018 to the collapse of the WARISAN state administration in September 2020. She is a member of the Democratic Action Party (DAP),a component party of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition. She has also served as the International Secretary of DAP since March 2022 and State Vice Chairwoman of Sabah since 2024. She is also the sister of Jennifer Lasimbang,former State Assistant Minister of Education and Innovation of Sabah and former Moyog MLA.
Dumi bin Pg Masdal is a Malaysian politician who has served as Member of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Silam since October 2019. He served as the State Assistant Minister of Rural Development of Sabah in the Heritage Party (WARISAN) state administration under former Chief Minister Shafie Apdal and former Minister Ewon Benedick from May 2018 to the collapse of the WARISAN state administration in September 2020 and MLA for Lahad Datu from May 2018 to October 2019. He is a member of WARISAN.
Datuk Haji Nizam Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Abu Bakar Titingan is a Malaysian politician who has served as the State Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister of Sabah in the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) state administration under Chief Minister Hajiji Noor since October 2022 and Member of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Apas since May 2018. He served as State Assistant Minister of Finance in the GRS state administration under Chief Minister and Minister Hajiji from October 2020 to October 2022. He is a member of the Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (GAGASAN),a component party of the GRS coalition. He has also served as the Information Chief and Division Chairman of Apas of GAGASAN since February 2023.
Datuk James bin Ratib is a Malaysian politician who served as the State Minister of Community Development and People's Wellbeing of Sabah in the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) state administration under Chief Minister Hajiji Noor since January 2023 and Member of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Sugut since May 2013. He served as the State Assistant Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries of Sabah in the GRS state administration under Hajiji and Minister Jeffrey Kitingan from October 2020 to his promotion to full ministership of a different portfolio in January 2023. He is a member and the Division Chairman of N48 Sugut of the Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (GAGASAN),a major component party of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition and was formerly a member of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) and United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO).
Datuk Isnin bin Aliasnih is a Malaysian politician who has served as the State Assistant Minister of Housing and Local Government of Sabah in the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition under Chief Minister Hajiji Noor and Ministers Masidi Manjun and Joachim Gunsalam since October 2020 as well as Member of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Klias since May 2018. He is a member of the Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (GAGASAN),a component party of the GRS coalition and was a member of the Malaysian United Indigenous Party of Sabah,a component party of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) and formerly GRS coalitions,member of the United Malays National Organisation of Sabah,a component party of the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalitions.
The 16th Sabah State Legislative Assembly is the current term of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly,the legislative branch of the Government of Sabah in Sabah,Malaysia. The 16th Assembly consists of 79 members that 73 members were elected in the 2020 Sabah election and 6 members were nominated by the Government and is serving from 26 October 2020 until the next state election.
The Ismail Sabri cabinet was formed following the appointment of Ismail Sabri Yaakob as Prime Minister of Malaysia on 21 August 2021 and dissolved 15 months and 3 days later following the appointment of Anwar Ibrahim as Prime Minister on 24 November 2022. It was the 22nd cabinet of Malaysia formed since independence. Following the coalition's defeat in the 2018 general election,Barisan Nasional (BN) has formed its first cabinet. This cabinet also has the full support of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS),Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS),three independent members of the Dewan Rakyat and conditional support of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition.
In Malaysian politics,a frog refers to an act where a politician crosses the bench from one party to another (changing support). This term was first coined in during the 1994 Sabah state elections after United Sabah Party losing its majority even the party won the state elections. Despite its usage nationwide,it is more familiar within the state of Sabah. Since May 25,2023,nine (9) states of Malaysia has approved the Parties hopping prevention law also known as the "Anti-Switching Parties Law" or "Anti-Hopping Parties Law" for both Parliament and State legislative assembly including Sabah and Sarawak.
