Nazley Khan Sharif (born 18 May 1990) is a South African politician serving as the Shadow Minister of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities since April 2023, having previously served as Deputy Minister between June 2019 and April 2023. Sharif was elected to the National Assembly in the May 2019 general election. Khan is a member of the Democratic Alliance.

Education

Sharif studied at the University of the Witwatersrand, where she graduated with a BA degree and a BA Honours degree in political sciences. [1]

Political career

While in her first year at the University of the Witwatersrand, she joined the Democratic Alliance Students' Organisation (DASO) on campus. She has been the deputy chairperson for Recruitment and Campaigns of DASO, the chair of the DA Youth in the party's Johannesburg South constituency, the chair of the DA Gauteng South Regional Youth Organisation, and the chairperson of the DASO branch at Wits University. [2]

She was elected as a DA councillor in the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality in 2014. Khan was elected to a full term in 2016. [3] She was then elected chairperson of the municipality's Section 79 Gender, Youth, and People with Disabilities committee. [1]

Khan was elected to the National Assembly in the May 2019 general election. [4] On 5 June 2019, she was appointed Shadow Deputy Minister of Women, Youth and Disabilities in the Presidency. [5] She became a member of the Portfolio Committee on Women, Youth and People with Disabilities on 27 June 2019. [6]

On 5 December 2020, it was announced that Khan would remain as Shadow Deputy Minister of Women, Youth and Disabilities in the Presidency in the shadow cabinet led by John Steenhuisen. [7]

Sharif was promoted to Shadow Minister of Women, Youth and Disabilities in the Presidency by Steenhuisen on 21 April 2023. [8]

The Shadow Cabinet of Mmusi Maimane was formed on 5 June 2014 in South Africa following his election as Parliamentary Leader of the Democratic Alliance and Leader of the Opposition on 29 May 2014. The Democratic Alliance parliamentary caucus also elected other caucus leadership. John Steenhuisen was elected Chief Whip with Anchen Dreyer as Caucus Chairperson. These elections all occurred following the 2014 general elections, in which the Democratic Alliance retained its post as the Official Opposition in the National Assembly of South Africa.

Joseph Job McGluwa is a South African politician who sas the leader of the Democratic Alliance in the North West province from 2015 to 2020. He has been a member of the National Assembly since 16 August 2018. He was previously in the National Assembly from 2009 to 2015. McGluwa was a member of the North West Provincial Legislature from 2015 to 2018.

He has also been the party's national spokesperson since August 2022, previously holding the position from June 2018 to November 2020. Malatsi was also the Parliamentary Counsellor to the DA Parliamentary Leader. He has also held posts in the DA's shadow cabinet.

She has been a Member of Parliament (MP) in the National Assembly since May 2019.

Baxolile Babongile Nodada is a South African politician for the Democratic Alliance who has been a Member of Parliament since 2019, and the Shadow Minister of Basic Education and the Parliamentary Counsellor to the Leader of the Opposition in John Steenhuisen's Shadow Cabinet since 2020.

Thembisile Angel Khanyile is a South African politician who is a member of the National Assembly of South Africa representing the Democratic Alliance. She is currently the Shadow Minister of Home Affairs. Khanyile had previously served as the Shadow Deputy Minister of Home Affairs.

Adrian Christopher Roos is a South African politician and a Member of Parliament in the National Assembly for the Democratic Alliance party. He is currently the Shadow Deputy Minister of Home Affairs.

Luyolo Mphithi is a South African politician who has been the Shadow Minister of Human Settlements since 2023 and a Member of Parliament since 2019. He previously served as Shadow Minister of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities in the Presidency from 2019 to 2023. A member of the Democratic Alliance, he served as the Federal Leader of the party's youth organisation from 2018 until his resignation in 2022. Luyolo Mphithi was elected as Vice President of the African Liberal Youth for democracy in Dakar, Senegal in 2022. He also serves as a Bureau Regional member of the International Federation of Liberal Youth (IFLRY).

Thamsanqa (Thami) Bhekokwakhe Mabhena is a South African politician. He is currently the Shadow Deputy Minister of Transport and a Member of Parliament (MP) for the opposition Democratic Alliance (DA).

Tsepo Winston Mhlongo is a South African politician. As a member of the Democratic Alliance, he served as a councillor in the City of Johannesburg until the 2014 national election, when he was elected to the National Assembly of South Africa. Michael Bagraim is a South African politician and labour lawyer. A member of the Democratic Alliance, he was elected to the National Assembly in 2014. He was then appointed Shadow Deputy Minister of Labour. In 2017, Bagraim was promoted to Shadow Minister of Labour. After the 2019 election, he was made Shadow Deputy Minister of Labour and Employment.
