Annelie Lotriet (born 8 June 1960) is a South African politician,a Member of Parliament with the Democratic Alliance (DA) who is the Shadow Minister of Science and Technology [1] and served as Acting Leader of the Opposition. She is also the provincial chairperson of the DA in the Free State. [2] In May 2019,Lotriet was elected Democratic Alliance Caucus Chairperson. [3] [4]
Lotriet was born in Johannesburg,South Africa and matriculated at the Hoërskool Linden.[ citation needed ] She is married to Pieter and they have four sons.[ citation needed ] She continued her studies at the Rand Afrikaans University where she obtained a BA Languages majoring in English and Latin. She went on to a D.Ed with specialization in Higher Education. [1]
Lotriet then lectured in the Department of Education at Vista University in Bloemfontein from 1985 to 1994 before her appointment as senior lecturer at the University of the Free State,initially at the Unit for Language Facilitation and Empowerment,and later in the Department of Afroasiatic Studies,Sign Language and Language Practice. She progressed to associate professor in the department before her appointment as head of the department. She worked on the training and management of the interpreting service at the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the training of interpreters for all levels of government. [1]
Between 1985 and 2000 Lotriet served on the OFM Board of Directors.[ citation needed ] She entered local politics in 2000 serving as a DA ward councillor in Mangaung for six years. Her current constituency is the Eastern Free State. Lotriet has further applied her dedicated service to many provincial and national committees,boards and associations,and was a member of the Pan South African Language Board. [5]
Lotriet currently serves the Democratic Alliance as Shadow Minister of Science and Technology. She was earlier the Shadow Minister of Higher Education and Training and Shadow Minister of Arts and Culture. She was also President of Free State Aquatics. [6]

Natasha Wendy Anita MazzoneMP OSI is a South African politician who served as the Chief Whip of the Official Opposition in the National Assembly of South Africa from October 2019 until August 2022. She has been a Member of the National Assembly,representing the official opposition Democratic Alliance (DA),since 2009. She was the second Deputy Federal Council Chairperson of the DA and the party's spokesperson on state capture. Mazzone has previously served as Shadow Minister of Public Enterprises and of Communications.
Anchen Margaretha Dreyer is a South African politician,a Member of Parliament for the opposition Democratic Alliance,and former Chairperson of the Democratic Alliance Caucus in the National Assembly. Before being elected unopposed to this position on 26 May 2014,she was first the Shadow Minister of Public Enterprises and thereafter the Shadow Minister of Public Works.
John Henry Steenhuisen is a South African politician who has served as the twentieth leader of the Opposition since October 2019 and has been the leader of the Democratic Alliance since November 2020,having served as the interim leader for one year from November 2019. He was chief whip of the official opposition from May 2014 until October 2019. Ideologically,Steenhuisen has been described as a classical liberal,a supporter of non-racialism and a firm believer in racial equality.
Jacobus Frederik "Jacques" Smalle is a South African politician who has served as a Democratic Alliance Member of the National Assembly of South Africa since 2023 and previously from 2010 to 2014. Smalle served as a member of the Limpopo Provincial Legislature twice from 2009 until 2010 and again from 2014 until 2023. Smalle is currently the Democratic Alliance's Limpopo provincial chairperson. He had previously served as the party's Limpopo provincial leader and as deputy federal chairperson of the party. He was the DA's Limpopo Premier candidate for the 2019 election.
The Shadow Cabinet of Mmusi Maimane was formed on 5 June 2014 in South Africa following his election as Parliamentary Leader of the Democratic Alliance and Leader of the Opposition on 29 May 2014. The Democratic Alliance parliamentary caucus also elected other caucus leadership. John Steenhuisen was elected Chief Whip with Anchen Dreyer as Caucus Chairperson. These elections all occurred following the 2014 general elections,in which the Democratic Alliance retained its post as the Official Opposition in the National Assembly of South Africa.
Désirée van der Walt is a South African politician who has been a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa since August 2023,previously serving in the Assembly between 2004 and 2010 and again from 2014 to 2023. She was a member of the Limpopo Provincial Legislature from 2010 to 2014 and again in 2023. Van der Walt is a member of the Democratic Alliance.
Thomas Charles Ravenscroft Walters is a South African politician of the Democratic Alliance (DA) who has been serving as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa since May 2014. He served as a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature from 2009 to 2014. In 2012,Walters was elected Deputy Federal Council Chairperson of the Democratic Alliance,and has been deputising Federal Council Chairperson Helen Zille since 2019. He deputised James Selfe from 2012 to 2019. Walters was the party's Shadow Minister and Shadow Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform.
The 27th South African Parliament is the sixth Parliament of South Africa to convene since the introduction of non-racial government in South Africa in 1994. It was elected in the general election of 8 May 2019 and consists of the National Assembly and the National Council of Provinces. The National Assembly contains 400 members,while the National Council of Provinces contains 90 members. It was formally opened by President Ramaphosa's State of the Nation Address in a joint sitting on 20 June 2019.

Mmoba Solomon "Solly" Malatsi is a South African politician from Limpopo. He has been a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa since May 2014. He has served in the national leadership of the Democratic Alliance (DA) as a deputy federal chairperson since 2023. He has also been the party's national spokesperson since August 2022,previously holding the position from June 2018 to November 2020. Malatsi was also the Parliamentary Counsellor to the DA Parliamentary Leader. He has also held posts in the DA's shadow cabinet.
Werner Horn is a South African lawyer and politician. He has served as a Member of the National Assembly since May 2014. He was a councillor of the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality between 2006 and 2014. Horn is a member of the Democratic Alliance.
Karabo Lerato Khakhau is a South African politician and the Youngest Member of South Africa's National Assembly for the Democratic Alliance since November 2022. She had previously served as a DA member of the Free State Provincial Legislature. Aged 21 years at the time of her election to the provincial legislature,she became the youngest ever member of provincial legislature in South Africa. Khakhau was previously the president of the student representative council of the University of Cape Town.
Michéle Odette Clarke is a South African politician. A member of the Democratic Alliance,Clarke served as a councillor in the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality from 2004 until her election to the Gauteng Provincial Legislature as a DA representative in 2014. After serving one term in the provincial legislature,Clarke was elected to the National Assembly of South Africa in 2019. She currently serves as Shadow Minister of Health after previously serving as Shadow Deputy Minister of Public Service and Administration and as Shadow Deputy Minister of Public Enterprises.
Annerie Maria Magdalena Weber is a South African politician who serves as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa. A member of the Democratic Alliance,she was elected to Parliament in May 2019. As of April 2023,she is the Shadow Deputy Minister of Forestry,Fisheries and the Environment. Weber served as the chairperson of the DA's caucus in the Nkangala District Municipality between 2015 and 2019.
Samantha Jane Graham is a South African politician from the Eastern Cape who was elected to the National Assembly of South Africa in the 2019 general election as a member of the Democratic Alliance. Graham has been the party's Shadow Minister of Electricity since 2023. Graham served as the shadow deputy minister of public works and infrastructure from 2019 to 2020 and as the shadow minister for the portfolio between 2020 and 2023. She is a former councillor of the Dr Beyers NaudéLocal Municipality.
Chantel King is a South African politician and educator. A member of the Democratic Alliance,she was sworn in as a Buffalo City councillor in July 2015. King became a Member of Parliament in November 2016. She then became Shadow Deputy Minister of Science and Technology in January 2017. In December 2020 King was appointed as Shadow Minister of Higher Education,Science and Technology.
The Shadow Cabinet of John Steenhuisen succeeded the Shadow Cabinet of Mmusi Maimane as the Official Opposition Shadow Cabinet. After John Steenhuisen was elected unopposed as the parliamentary leader by the Democratic Alliance's caucus on 27 October 2019,he announced a new shadow cabinet,on 5 December 2020.
Tsepo Winston Mhlongo is a South African politician. As a member of the Democratic Alliance,he served as a councillor in the City of Johannesburg until the 2014 national election,when he was elected to the National Assembly of South Africa. After that,he was appointed Shadow Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform. Mhlongo became the Shadow Minister of Sport and Recreation in January 2017 before he was selected to be Shadow Minister of Sports,Arts and Culture in June 2019. On 1 December 2023,Mhlongo was expelled from the DA and lost his parliamentary membership. He has since joined ActionSA.
Roy Jankielsohn is a South African politician who has been the leader of the opposition in the Free State Provincial Legislature since 2014. He has been the provincial leader of the Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Free State since 2020.
