Anchen Margaretha Dreyer (born 27 March 1952) is a South African politician,a Member of Parliament for the opposition Democratic Alliance,and former Chairperson of the Democratic Alliance Caucus in the National Assembly. Before being elected unopposed to this position on 26 May 2014,she was first the Shadow Minister of Public Enterprises and thereafter the Shadow Minister of Public Works. [1] [2]
Anchen Dreyer grew up in the then Transvaal province,attended primary school in the small town of Brits,and matriculated at Voortrekkerhoogte Hoёrskool in 1969. She obtained her tertiary education at the Rand Afrikaans University (RAU) obtaining the following degrees:BA,1973;BA Honors in Sociology,1977;BA Honors in Psychology,1981;and MA in Clinical Psychology,1983. [3] She registered as a clinical psychologist with the South African Medical and Dental Council in 1983 and thereafter worked as a clinical psychologist in both Auckland Park and Sandton,Johannesburg,from 1983 to 1988. She established and managed a successful private practice as a clinical psychologist in Meliville,Johannesburg,from 1988 to 1994. [4] She now considers herself a retired clinical psychologist and a full-time politician. [5]
She started her political life as a volunteer for the Progressive Federal Party in 1978. [5] She served as Democratic Party (South Africa) councillor in Johannesburg City Council from 1991 to 1994,and as caucus leader in the Johannesburg Metropolitan Council from 1995 to 1997. She completed a five-year term as a Democratic Alliance member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature in Johannesburg,serving initially as the spokesperson for agriculture,conservation,environment and land affairs,and was later elected as caucus whip from 1999 to 2002. She assumed office as the Democratic Alliance Gauteng provincial deputy chairperson from 2003 to 2004,and thereafter acted as DA media spokesperson at the election head office in Johannesburg,February to April 2004. [3] In 2005,she became a Democratic Alliance Member of Parliament,where she served the party as a whip and the spokesperson on Labour. Her constituency is the Mogale City municipal area. [5] She was re-elected to Parliament in 2009 and was appointed as the Shadow Minister of Public Service and Administration and has been Shadow Minister for Public Works since 2012. She has also served the party as a whip since 2005.
In May 2019,Annelie Lotriet was elected the new Democratic Alliance Caucus Chairperson,succeeding Dreyer. [6]
Her 50-year-old brother Frans owner of VAStech died on the Afriqiyah Airways Flight 771 crash on 12 May 2010. [7] Her great grandfather,Louw Geldenhuys,was a city councilor and an MP. [5]
She volunteered as a counselor to ex-detainees held without trial during State of Emergency,from 1989 to 1990. She served on WARM (Westene,Auckland Park,Richmond,Melville) Residents' Association Management Committee,from 1989 to 1991. [4]
Mike Waters is a South African politician,and former Member of Parliament for the opposition Democratic Alliance (DA),where he served as the Opposition's Deputy Chief Whip from 2014 to 2019. He served as the Shadow Minister of Health from 2006 to 2012,and as the Shadow Minister of Social Development from 2012 to 2014.
Nkhumeni "Khume" Ramulifho is a South African politician of the Democratic Alliance (DA),previously the party's Federal Youth Leader and a present member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature for the party. Since October 2011,he is also the DA Gauteng South Chairperson.
Natasha Wendy Anita MazzoneMP OSI is a South African politician who is currently serving as Chief Whip of the Official Opposition in the National Assembly of South Africa. She has been a Member of the National Assembly,representing the official opposition Democratic Alliance (DA),since 2009. She was the second Deputy Federal Council Chairperson of the DA and the party's spokesperson on state capture. Mazzone was Shadow Minister of Public Enterprises and Shadow Minister of Communications.
James Masango is a South African politician,and a member of the opposition Democratic Alliance (DA). He currently serves in the national leadership as deputy chairperson of the Federal Council,and as a municipal councillor for the DA in Govan Mbeki municipality. Masango is the former leader of the opposition in the Mpumalanga provincial legislature,and was also formerly a member of Parliament's National Assembly (MP),where he served as the Chairperson of Caucus.
Annelie Lotriet is a South African politician,a Member of Parliament with the Democratic Alliance (DA) who is the Shadow Minister of Science and Technology and served as Acting Leader of the Opposition. She is also the provincial chairperson of the DA in the Free State. In May 2019,Lotriet was elected Democratic Alliance Caucus Chairperson.
Manny Simão Franca de Freitas is a South African politician,currently a Member of Parliament with the Democratic Alliance,was appointed as the Shadow Deputy Minister of Transport from 2009 to 2012,Shadow Minister of Home Affairs from 2012 to 2014 and Shadow Minister of Transport in 2014,a position he held until the end of term in 2019. After the 2019 Elections,de Freitas was appointed as Shadow Minister of Tourism.
James Lorimer is a South African politician,a Member of Parliament for the Democratic Alliance,and the Shadow Minister of Environmental Affairs,Forestry and Fisheries. Previously he has served as a deputy spokesperson on Parliament's defence and basic education committees,and as Shadow Minister on Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs as well as Mineral Affairs. He was first elected to the National Assembly in 2009.
John Henry Steenhuisen is a South African politician who has served as the leader of the Opposition since October 2019 and has been the federal leader of the Democratic Alliance since November 2020,having served as the interim leader for one year from November 2019. He was chief whip of the official opposition from May 2014 until October 2019. Ideologically,Steenhuisen has been described as a liberal,a supporter of non-racialism and a firm believer in racial equality.
Makashule Gana is a South African politician who currently serves as a member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature for the opposition Democratic Alliance. He was previously a member of the National Assembly,where he was Shadow Minister of Human Settlements between 2014 and 2016. Gana also served as the Deputy Federal Chairperson of the DA until 2015. He was previously leader of the DA Youth and DA councillor in the City of Johannesburg,he holds a BSc degree and is currently registered for a Postgraduate Diploma in Management at the Wits Business School.
The Shadow Cabinet of Mmusi Maimane was formed on 5 June 2014 following his election as Parliamentary Leader of the Democratic Alliance and Leader of the Opposition on 29 May 2014. The Democratic Alliance parliamentary caucus also elected other caucus leadership. John Steenhuisen was elected Chief Whip with Anchen Dreyer as Caucus Chairperson. These elections all occurred following the 2014 general elections,in which the Democratic Alliance retained its post as the Official Opposition in the National Assembly of South Africa.
Thomas Charles Ravenscroft Walters is a South African politician of the Democratic Alliance (DA) who has been serving as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa since May 2014. He served as a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature from 2009 to 2014. In 2012,Walters was elected Deputy Federal Council Chairperson of the Democratic Alliance,and has been deputising Federal Council Chairperson Helen Zille since 2019. He deputised James Selfe from 2012 to 2019. Walters was the party's Shadow Minister and Shadow Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform.

Ashor Sarupen is a South African politician who serves as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa for the Democratic Alliance (DA),after having taken office on 22 May 2019. Jacques Warren William Julius is a South African Democratic Alliance politician from Gauteng who served as the Deputy Chief Whip of the Official Opposition in the National Assembly of South Africa from May 2019 to December 2021. He was acting Chief Whip between the resignation of John Steenhuisen and the appointment of Natasha Mazzone in October 2019. He became a Member of the National Assembly in May 2019. Julius served a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces from May 2014 to May 2019.
Refiloe Nt'sekhe is a South African politician who serves as a Deputy Federal Chairperson of the Democratic Alliance (DA). She was elected to the position at the 2015 Federal Congress. Nt'sekhe was elected as a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature in the 2014 general election. She was also one of two national spokespeople of the DA from 2015 to 2020.
Michéle Odette Clarke is a South African politician serving as the Democratic Alliance's Shadow Deputy Minister of Public Enterprises since December 2020. She was the Shadow Deputy Minister of Public Service and Administration from June 2019 to December 2020. She was elected to the National Assembly in May 2019. From May 2014 to May 2019,she served as a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature. Clarke was also the ward councillor for Bedfordview until 2014.
Jack Bloom is a South African politician who has been a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature since 1994,representing the Democratic Party from 1994 until 2003 and the Democratic Alliance from 2003 onwards. Bloom is the DA's shadow MEC for health. Bloom was the DA caucus leader and the Leader of the Opposition in the provincial legislature from December 2007 to April 2009 and again from March 2011 until May 2014.
Frederik Petrus Nel is a South African politician who has served as a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature since May 2009,representing the Democratic Alliance. He is the DA's Gauteng Shadow MEC for Roads and Transport. Nel was elected as the DA provincial chairperson in 2020.
Tsepo Winston Mhlongo is a South African politician. A member of the Democratic Alliance,he served as a councillor in the City of Johannesburg until the 2014 national election,when he was elected to the National Assembly of South Africa. After that,he was appointed Shadow Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform. Mhlongo became the Shadow Minister of Sport and Recreation in January 2017 before he was selected to be Shadow Minister of Sports,Arts and Culture in June 2019.
