Sanele Sethembeni Zondo (born 26 March 1992) is a South African politician from KwaZulu-Natal. He is currently a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Inkatha Freedom Party. Zondo also serves as the Deputy National Chairperson of the Inkatha Freedom Party Youth Brigade.
Zondo was born on 26 March 1992 and grew up in Hluhluwe in KwaZulu-Natal. He attended the Ethekwini TVET College. Zondo formerly served as an Inkatha Freedom Party councillor in the Big Five Hlabisa Local Municipality. He is the current deputy national chair of the IFP Youth Brigade. [1]
After the IFP won control of the uMkhanyakude District Municipality in the local government elections held on 1 November 2021,Zondo accused the ANC of refusing the yield power in the district and claimed that there was a lot of irregularities during the first sitting of the newly elected Mtubatuba Local Municipality council. [2] He demanded that the uMkhanyakude district "be given to the party [IFP] voted for by the people" and called on the national ANC Minister of Water and Sanitation,Senzo Mchunu,in December 2021 to renounce all national government interventions in the district and let the IFP govern the district municipality. [3]
On 8 February 2022,IFP spokesman Mkhuleko Hlengwa said that the party had welcomed Zondo and Nhlanhla Hadebe's appointment as IFP MPs. Zondo was selected to fill the vacancy left by the death of IFP National Youth Bridge chairperson and National Assembly member Mthokozisi Nxumalo. [4] Zondo was sworn in as a Member of the National Assembly on 15 February 2022 by Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula. [5] Zondo is a member of the Portfolio Committee on Higher Education,Science and Technology and the Portfolio Committee on Public Works and Infrastructure.
The Inkatha Freedom Party is a political party in South Africa. The party has been led by Velenkosini Hlabisa since the party's 2019 National General Conference. Mangosuthu Buthelezi founded the party in 1975 and led it until 2019. The IFP is currently the fourth largest party in the National Assembly of South Africa,in 2014 yielding third place to the Economic Freedom Fighters,formed in 2013. Although registered as a national party,it has had only minor electoral success outside its home province of KwaZulu-Natal.
Mangosuthu Gatsha Buthelezi is a South African politician and Zulu tribal leader who founded what became the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) in 1975,and was Chief Minister of the KwaZulu bantustan until 1994. He was Minister of Home Affairs of South Africa from 1994 to 2004. He is often referred to as Shenge,which is part of the Buthelezi clan praises. Buthelezi,a member of Zulu royalty,is also the Traditional Prime Minister of the Zulu nation.

It is the sixth municipal election held in South Africa since the end of apartheid in 1994,held every five years. The previous municipal elections were held in 2016. On 21 April 2021,President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the elections will be held on Wednesday,27 October 2021. It had been recommend by Dikgang Moseneke to delay the municipal elections until 2022. The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) requested the Constitutional Court to support the date postponement. The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) supported the date postponement while the Democratic Alliance (DA) was against the postponement of the date. The Constitutional Court dismissed the application to postpone the date until 2022,ruling that they had to take place between 27 October and 1 November. On 9 September 2021,the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs,Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma announced that the elections would be held on 1 November.
Mkhuleko Hlengwa is a South African politician who serves as a Member of the National Assembly for the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP). He is the Chairperson of parliament's Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA). He became a Member of the National Assembly in February 2012 and has served on the SCOPA committee since 2014. Hlengwa was previously the National Chairperson of the IFP Youth Brigade.
The 35th Inkatha Freedom Party National General Conference was held from 23 to 25 August 2019 to elect the new leadership of the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP). The previous elective conference was held in 2012. Party president Mangosuthu Buthelezi had announced his intention to retire after serving in the position for more than forty-four years. He was the party's inaugural president. It was understood that the party's IFP Extended National Council favoured the Leader of the Opposition in the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature,Velenkosini Hlabisa,to succeed him as party president. Hlabisa was elected unopposed.
Mervyn Alexander Dirks is a South African politician serving as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa. A member of the African National Congress,he became an MP in 2014 and was the ANC's chief whip in the Standing Committee of Public Accounts until his suspension in January 2022. Dirks was a municipal councillor of the Msunduzi Local Municipality where he served as the deputy mayor.
Simo Ezra Mfayela was a South African politician from KwaZulu-Natal who served as a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces from May 2019 until his death. He was the sole permanent representative of the Inkatha Freedom Party and the deputy provincial chairperson of the party. Mfayela was the son of the former senator Senzo Mfayela.
