The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is a South African communist and black nationalist political party. It was founded by expelled former African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) president Julius Malema, and his allies, on 26 July 2013. Malema is president of the EFF, heading the Central Command Team, which serves as the central structure of the party. It is currently the fourth-largest party in the National Assembly.
The 26th South African Parliament was the fifth Parliament of South Africa to convene since the introduction of non-racial government in South Africa in 1994. It was elected in the general election of 7 May 2014 and consists of the National Assembly and the National Council of Provinces. The National Assembly contains 400 members, while the National Council of Provinces contains 90 members. Members of Parliament were sworn in on 21 May 2014. The 26th parliament first convened on 21 May 2014 to elect Jacob Zuma as the fifth democratically elected President of South Africa. It was formally opened by president Zuma's State of the Nation Address in a joint sitting on 17 June 2014.
Mbuyiseni Quintin Ndlozi MP is a South African politician and political activist. He was a Member of the National Assembly, representing the Economic Freedom Fighters, from 2014 until his resignation in January 2025. He also served as the first official spokesperson for the party until his resignation in 2020. He was replaced as party spokesperson by fellow member of the Economic Freedom Fighters, youth activist Vuyani Pambo.
Mogamad Nazier Paulsen is South African politician currently serving as a Member of the National Assembly for the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF). Prior to serving parliament, he served as a Member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament.
Vuyani Pambo is a South African politician and former student activist. He has represented the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in the National Assembly since May 2019 and serves as the head of the EFF presidency. He rose to political prominence as a leader of the Fees Must Fall movement at the University of the Witwatersrand, where he was the head of the EFF Student Command. A member of the EFF Central Command since December 2019, he also served as the party's national spokesperson between February 2020 and February 2022.
Makoti Sibongile Khawula is a South African politician and previous anti-apartheid activist from KwaZulu-Natal serving as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa for the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) party since 2014. Khawula is known for her insistence on speaking Zulu in Parliament.
Naledi Nokukhanya Chirwa-Mpungose is a South African politician and former student activist from Gauteng. She represents the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in the National Council of Provinces. She was formerly a member of the National Assembly between May 2019 and June 2024. She rose to prominence through her involvement in the #FeesMustFall student protests at the University of Pretoria between 2015 and 2016.
Yoliswa Nomampondomise Yako is a South African politician from the Eastern Cape who served as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa. She took office as an MP on 3 September 2018. Before that, Yako was a PR councillor of the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality and the chairperson of the municipality's Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC). Yako is a member of the Economic Freedom Fighters.
Nokulunga Primrose Sonti is a South African politician from the North West who served as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa for the Economic Freedom Fighters from May 2014 until May 2024. Sonti was previously a member of the African National Congress.
Mmabatho Olive Mokause is a South African politician serving as a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces from the Northern Cape since March 2020. She is a member of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF). Mokause was a Member of the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature from May 2014 to April 2015. She was appointed to the National Assembly of South Africa, the lower house of Parliament, in April 2015 and served in the chamber until January 2018. After the May 2019 general election, she returned to the National Assembly, but resigned in September. In March 2020, she was selected to represent the EFF in the upper house.
Hlengiwe Octavia Mkhaliphi is a South African politician who has been serving as a Member of the National Assembly since May 2014. Mkhaliphi is a founding member of the Economic Freedom Fighters and served as the party's inaugural deputy secretary-general from 2014 until 2019.
John Andile Mngxitama is a South African politician serving as a member of Parliament for newly formed UMkhonto WeSizwe Party in the 7th Parliament. Previously he served as the president of the Black First Land First party from October 2015 until November 2023. Moreover, he was a member of the Economic Freedom Fighters, he served as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa for the party from May 2014 until his expulsion in April 2015.
Vuyokazi Ketabahle was a South African politician who served as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa for the Economic Freedom Fighters party from January 2015 until August 2018 when she resigned from the party.
Piaba Madokwe is a South African politician who served as Member of the National Assembly for the Economic Freedom Fighters from October 2020 until August 2023. Madokwe previously served as the Inagrual Secretary-General of the EFF Students Command.
Ntokozo Khonziwe Fortunate Hlonyana is a South African politician who served as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa from 23 January 2018 until 8 January 2025. She is a member of the Economic Freedom Fighters party.
Pebane George Moteka is a South African politician who was elected to the National Assembly at the 2014 general election as a representative of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF). He was re-elected to parliament in 2019. He resigned from parliament on 31 July 2022.
Ciliesta Catherine Shoana Motsepe was a South African Member of Parliament for the Economic Freedom Fighters. She was elected to parliament in 2019. From June 2020, she was a member of the Portfolio Committee on Public Service and Administration. In March 2023, she was appointed to serve on the Portfolio Committee on Mineral Resources and Energy.
Nontando Judith Nolutshungu is a South African politician and a Member of Parliament for the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF). She was elected National Chairperson of the EFF in December 2024.
Tebogo Josephine Mokwele is a South African politician who served in the National Assembly of South Africa from May to August 2019 as a member of the Economic Freedom Fighters party. Prior to serving in the National Assembly, Mokwele had been a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces from the North West from 2014 to 2019.
Kgotso Zachariah Morapela is a South African politician for the Economic Freedom Fighters. He was the party's provincial chairman in the Free State until 2018 and represented the party in the National Assembly and the Free State Provincial Legislature.
