The Nissan Livina is a compact MPV model produced by the Japanese automobile manufacturer Nissan. It was introduced in July 2006 by Dongfeng Nissan at the Guangzhou International Motor Show and went on sale in December 2006. Sharing the same platform with the first-generation Note, the first-generation Livina was the first Nissan vehicle to debut in China before being released in other countries.
The first-generation Livina was available in two body lengths, with the longer one designed to accommodate three-row seating. It was built in Brazil, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, South Africa, China and Taiwan. The second-generation Livina that was introduced in February 2019 is a three-row-only model based on the Mitsubishi Xpander, and as of 2022 [update] , is only available in Indonesia [1] [2] and the Philippines. The regular length two-row model with a shorter rear overhang is called the Livina or Livina XR, or in Taiwan as Livina Urban or Livina Sport, while the extended length three-row model with a longer rear overhang is called Livina Geniss in China or Grand Livina elsewhere. The longer three-row model is a station wagon-styled MPV, while the two-row model is considered as a roomy hatchback or a European-style mini MPV.
The model debuted in November 2006 in China in its three-row guise under the name Livina Geniss, while the two-row model was introduced in the country in April 2007. [7]
The two-row Livina was introduced in Taiwan in October 2007. [8] Both the two-row Livina and the three-row Grand Livina was also produced in South Africa since January 2008, where forty percent of the vehicle parts were locally sourced, with the rest coming elsewhere, mainly Indonesia. [9]
Power for the Livina comes from 1.5-litre, 1.6-litre or 1.8-litre four-cylinder engines that are shared with the Tiida/Latio/Versa (C11). The 1.5- and 1.6-litre engines are paired with either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic. The 1.8-litre option is paired with either a 6-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission.
The Livina Geniss in China or Grand Livina in other countries is a three-row model with longer rear overhang. The Grand Livina was launched in Indonesia on April 5, 2007. It was initially available in 1.5 SV, 1.5 XV, 1.8 XV and 1.8 Ultimate grade levels. Later, the 1.5 S and 1.5 Ultimate, as well as the sporty 1.5 and 1.8 Highway Star with body kit were added into the lineup. The Indonesian market Grand Livina received its facelift on February 10, 2011, [10] while the Highway Star Autech was launched on September 27, 2011 with redesigned grille and bumper. [11] On August 31, 2012, the 1.5 XV and 1.5 Ultimate grades received the same grille and bumper as the Highway Star Autech. [12]
Only the 1.8-litre engine is offered in the Philippines and Brazil, while the South African market get the 1.6-litre variant.
In Malaysia, the Grand Livina was launched in December 2007 with two engine options: HR16DE (manual and automatic) and MR18DE (automatic only). [13] [14] A "Tuned by Impul" edition was made available in January 2009. [15] In June 2011, the facelifted variants was launched. Changes included: new front grille, black dashboard opposed to beige and instrument faces finished in white opposed to black. [16] Later the same month, the "Tuned by Impul" version was updated. [17] In July 2012, an "Autech" variant was introduced. [18]
In April 2008, a crossover-styled variant was released as the Livina C-Gear in China. [19] It is marketed as the Livina X-Gear elsewhere. Based on the regular two-row Livina, the X-Gear is decorated with unpainted body claddings, side body garnish, rugged-style bumpers and roof rails. The Livina X-Gear was also introduced in Indonesia in May 2008, [20] in South Africa in 2008, [21] in Brazil in August 2009, [22] and in Malaysia in September 2011. [23]
The variant is powered by a 1.6-litre HR16DE engine, except in Indonesia where it is equipped with a 1.5-litre HR15DE engine. In Brazil, a 1.8-litre engine option was also offered. [22]
On August 25, 2010, the updated models of both the Livina and Livina Geniss were launched in China.
On February 10, 2011, the updated models of the Grand Livina were launched in Indonesia by Nissan Motor Indonesia. Changes mainly focused on minor exterior changes such as the front grille, wheel design and other changes, while interior changes involved color changes from beige and brown to black. The facelifted Grand Livina Highway Star was launched on September 27, 2011. On August 31, 2012, the XV and Ultimate shared the same sporty Autech front bumper as the Highway Star, but full body kits and sporty alloy wheels are exclusive for the Highway Star only.
The L10-series Livina were still offered in Brazil and South Africa after the L11-series Livina models were introduced in China and Southeast Asian countries.
Spy shots of the L11-series Livina were published online on October 8, 2012. [24] The L11-series Livina was first introduced in China at the 15th Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition in April 2013, with redesigned front and rear fascias. [25]
On May 29, 2013, the L11-series Grand Livina and Grand Livina X-Gear were launched in Indonesia. Locally marketed as an all-new model, the L11 models have revised front end, front fenders and rear panels with distinctive taillights and trunk garnishes. The Grand Livina X-Gear comes with different front bumpers, black over fenders, black body cladding and roof rails. The CVT option replaced the 4-speed automatic transmission in this model. Grade levels for the Indonesian market Grand Livina are SV, XV and Highway Star. The 1.5-litre HR15DE engine is equipped with dual injectors and dual variable valve timing control (CVTC), while the 1.8-litre MR18DE engine was only available for the X-Gear and retained the 6-speed manual or regular 4-speed automatic transmissions. Nissan Motor Indonesia decided to end the production of the Grand Livina X-Gear with 1.8-litre engine,[ when? ] citing lack of demand.
The L11-series Grand Livina for the Malaysian market has the 1.6-litre engine and 1.8-litre engine. [26] The 1.6-litre manual Grand Livina has since been discontinued in Malaysia. [27]
The L11-series two-row Livina C-Gear was introduced in China, and later also available as the X-Gear in other markets including Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Taiwan.

The second-generation Livina was launched in Indonesia on February 19, 2019, a month after Nissan ceased the production of the L11 Grand Livina in the country. [29] [30] A byproduct of Renault–Nissan–Mitsubishi Alliance, [31] [32] [33] it is a rebadged and restyled variant of the Mitsubishi Xpander and manufactured alongside it by Mitsubishi Motors plant in Cikarang, West Java. [34] Nissan used the "Livina" name for this model due to the established nameplate usage in the country.
As it is based on the Xpander, it is only offered in one body variant and has crossover SUV-like proportions compared to previous generation's low slung station wagon-like proportions. [35] Compared to the Xpander, Nissan has redesigned several body panels including the Nissan's V-Motion grille, headlights, front bumper, front fenders, front side doors, rear bumper, rear tailgate metal sheet casing and taillight internals.
The second-generation Livina is available in four grade levels: E, EL, VE and VL. In June 2020, the Sporty Package for the VE grade was made available in 100 units. [36] The E grade was discontinued in 2021.[ citation needed ]
The second-generation Livina was also launched in the Philippines on September 6, 2022 in left-hand drive form and is imported from Indonesia. [3] [37]

The Nissan Prairie is an automobile manufactured and marketed by Nissan from 1981 to 2004. Considered a mini MPV or a compact MPV. It was also marketed as the Multi in Canada and the Stanza Wagon in the United States. In Japan, it was exclusive to Nissan Bluebird Store locations, then later at Nissan Blue Stage sales channels. The Prairie had a very flexible seating capability and sliding rear doors on both sides of the vehicle, with a liftgate in the back. The name "prairie" was derived from French which means an extensive area of relatively flat grassland, similar to "steppe" or "savanna".
The Daihatsu Terios is a mini SUV produced by the Japanese automobile manufacturer Daihatsu since 1997 as the successor to the F300 series Rocky. It was initially offered in both short- and long-wheelbase configurations before the former stopped production in 2016 to be replaced by the A200 series Rocky crossover in 2019. The long-wheelbase variant is available mainly for the Indonesian market with three-row seating options. A smaller kei car model called the Terios Kid/Lucia was also available for the first-generation model.
The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is a body-on-frame mid-size SUV produced by the Japanese manufacturer Mitsubishi Motors using the Pajero nameplate since 1996. Based on the Triton pickup truck, the Pajero Sport has spanned over three generations. It is unrelated to the full-size Pajero, which is built on a unibody chassis since 1999 and was discontinued in 2021.
The Nissan X-Trail is a compact crossover SUV produced by the Japanese automaker Nissan since 2000. Since 2018, it is positioned between the Qashqai and the larger Murano.
Autech is a division of Nissan Motorsports & Customizing focused on tuning and converting Nissan cars. Autech was a subsidiary company of Nissan from its establishment in 1986 to 2022, when it was merged with Nismo.
The Toyota Avanza and Daihatsu Xenia are a series of multi-purpose vehicles (MPV) developed by Daihatsu and marketed by both Toyota and Daihatsu, mainly sold with three-row seating. The Avanza and Xenia were developed as an entry-level MPV marketed mainly for the Indonesian and other emerging markets, and mainly produced in Indonesia by Astra Daihatsu Motor. Avanza's spiritual predecessor was the Kijang, whose model program has since been split into two different models to expand Toyota's reach in the MPV sector.
The Toyota Innova is a series of multi-purpose vehicles (MPV) manufactured by the Japanese carmaker Toyota since 2004, mainly sold with three-row seating.
The Mitsubishi Delica is a range of vans and pickup trucks designed and built by the Japanese automaker Mitsubishi Motors since 1968. It was originally based on a cabover van and pickup truck introduced the previous year, also called the Delica, its name a contraction of the English language phrase Delivery car. This pickup truck, and a commercial van derived from it has received many names in export markets, being sold as the L300 in Europe, Jamaica and New Zealand, Express and Starwagon in Australia, and plain Mitsubishi Van and Wagon in the United States. The passenger car versions were known as Delica Star Wagon from 1979 until the 1994 introduction of the Delica Space Gear, which became simply Space Gear in Europe at least. The most recent version is called the Delica D:5. With the exception of the first, versions of all generations are still being sold in various international markets.
The Toyota Sienta is a mini MPV with sliding doors manufactured by Toyota. It was introduced in September 2003, based on the Vitz/Yaris subcompact car, and is available at all Toyota dealerships in Japan. The Sienta is sold in Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, Taiwan, Laos, and Thailand. As of 2022, it is positioned below the Voxy/Noah and above the Roomy in Toyota's MPV lineup in Japan. In Indonesia and Thailand, it serves as an upmarket alternative to the Avanza and fills the gap between Avanza and the larger Innova.
The Nissan Serena is a minivan manufactured by Nissan, joining the slightly larger Vanette. The car was engineered by Nissan's Aichi Manufacturing Division and launched in 1991 as a compact passenger van, and it grew larger with each generation over the years. Earlier versions were front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout with a live axle mounted on leaf springs.
The Nissan Sylphy is a compact car produced by the Japanese car maker Nissan since 2000 as the successor to the Nissan Pulsar. The Sylphy has also been marketed in export markets under several other nameplates, including Pulsar, Almera, Sunny and Sentra. For the third-generation model (B17) introduced in 2012, the Sylphy model was merged with the B17 Sentra, meaning it is no longer a standalone model.
The Hyundai Starex is a series of light commercial vehicles built by Hyundai. First-generation models were known in Europe as the Hyundai H-1, and in the Netherlands it was known as the Hyundai H200. The cargo variant of the second-generation models was marketed as the Hyundai iLoad in Australia, and the United Kingdom. The second-generation passenger variant was marketed as the Hyundai iMax in Australia and, as the Hyundai i800 in the United Kingdom. In Europe, the cargo variant was marketed as the Hyundai H-1 Cargo, while the passenger variant was marketed as the Hyundai H-1 Travel. In the Netherlands, it is called the Hyundai H300. In Malaysia, the passenger variant of the H300 is only sold as a fleet vehicle, and the cargo variant is marketed as the Hyundai StarexRoyale in a Minivan configuration.
PT Nissan Motor Indonesia is a subsidiary of Nissan Motor Company in Indonesia. The company was founded in 2001 and headquartered in Jakarta, Indonesia. Previously, Nissan vehicles were distributed by PT Indocitra Buana, a joint venture company between Indomobil Group and Bimantara Citra. Together with PT Nissan Motor Distributor Indonesia, these companies acts as both national sales/distribution company and formerly a manufacturing company.
The Honda Brio is a city car produced by Honda since 2011. It is mainly sold in Southeast Asia and also in other regions, positioned as an entry-level hatchback model slotted below the Fit/Jazz and the City. Along with the complementary Amaze sedan, it is the smallest car in Honda's global line-up as of 2023, excluding Japanese market kei cars.
The Suzuki Ertiga is a series of multi-purpose vehicles (MPV) manufactured by the Japanese carmaker Suzuki since the year 2012. The first-generation model is heavily based on the Swift while the second-generation model introduced in 2018 is made larger and based on the HEARTECT platform. A crossover-styled version was introduced in 2019 as a separate model called the Suzuki XL6 in India and Suzuki XL7 for worldwide markets. The largest markets for the Ertiga are India and Indonesia, where the model is mainly manufactured. The vehicle has also been exported to other South Asian and Southeast Asian markets, along with several markets in Africa, Middle East, Pacific Islands, Caribbean and Latin America.
The Daihatsu Ayla is a city car designed by Daihatsu and manufactured by Astra Daihatsu Motor in Indonesia since 2013, primarily developed for emerging markets. The Ayla has also been sold by Toyota as the Toyota Agya in Indonesia, South Africa, Tunisia and Americas, and the Toyota Wigo in the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Brunei and Vietnam through an OEM agreement. The car is also slightly reengineered and manufactured in Malaysia by Perodua as the Perodua Axia.
The Honda BR-V is a subcompact crossover SUV manufactured by Honda since 2016 and mainly sold for emerging markets. While being dimensionally bigger, the BR-V is positioned below the more advanced international market HR-V. The first-generation model shares its platform with the second-generation Mobilio, which itself based on the lengthened Brio platform. The second-generation model is built on a separate platform from the Mobilio.
The Daihatsu Sigra is a mini MPV with standard three-row seating designed by Daihatsu and manufactured by Astra Daihatsu Motor in Indonesia since July 2016 to be sold exclusively in the country. Developed by Daihatsu chief engineer Nobuhiko Ono, it is built on lengthened Ayla's platform and positioned below the Xenia as a more affordable MPV option for the Indonesian market, where three-row MPVs have high demand in the country. It is also rebadged and sold by Toyota as the Toyota Calya with a differentiated front fascia. The cars were built to meet the "Low Cost Green Car" regulation by the Indonesian government that abolished luxury goods tax for economical cars.
The Mitsubishi Xpander is a compact multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) manufactured by Mitsubishi Motors since 2017. Prominently marketed as a "crossover MPV", the vehicle was introduced in July 2017 in Indonesia, where the vehicle is manufactured and sold as a high-volume model. Introductions in other markets started since 2018, and the vehicle is mainly sold in emerging countries in Southeast Asia along with several Latin American, African and Middle Eastern markets. It was the fourth best-selling Mitsubishi Motors model globally in 2018 and 2019, and became its third best-selling model in 2021.
PT Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Indonesia is a joint venture of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation for its passenger cars and light commercial vehicle (LCV) production in Indonesia. A separate company, called PT Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Sales Indonesia handled the marketing and sales of Mitsubishi passenger cars and LCV in Indonesia. The company was a result of restructuration in April 2017 when Mitsubishi Motors operations and Mitsubishi Fuso operations were separated from the former company, PT Krama Yudha Tiga Berlian (KTB). Today, KTB exclusively handled Mitsubishi Fuso production and sales in Indonesia.
