Peterborough East was a federal electoral district represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1867 to 1925. It was located in the province of Ontario. It was created by the British North America Act of 1867 which divided the County of Peterborough into two ridings.
The East Riding consisted of the Townships of Asphodel, Belmont and Methuen, Douro, Dummer, Galway, Harvey, Minden, Stanhope and Dysart, Otonabee, and Snowden, and the Village of Ashburnham, and any other surveyed Townships lying to the north.
In 1882, it was defined to consist of the townships of Asphodel, Belmont, Methuen, Douro, Dummer, Burleigh, Anstruther, Chandos, Dysart, Dudley, Harcourt, Guilford, Harburn, Bruton, Havelock, Eyre, Clyde, Nightingale, Livingstone, Lawrence, Cavendish, Glamorgan, Cardiff, Monmouth, Otonabee and Harvey, and the villages of Ashburnham, Lakefield and Norwood.
In 1903, it was redefined to consist of the townships of Anstruther, Asphodel, Belmont, Burleigh, Chandos, Douro, Dummer, Methuen and Otonabee, and the villages of Havelock, Lakefield and Norwood. In 1914, it was redefined of the townships of Anstruther, Asphodel, Belmont, Burleigh, Chandos, Douro, Dummer, Methuen and Otonabee, and the villages of Havelock, Lakefield and Norwood.
The electoral district was abolished in 1924 when it was redistributed between Hastings—Peterborough and Peterborough West ridings.

The Otonabee River is a river in Peterborough County in Central Ontario, Canada. The river flows from Katchewanooka Lake, at the north end of the community of Lakefield, through the city of Peterborough to Rice Lake. It is in the Great Lakes Basin and forms part of the Trent-Severn Waterway.
Havelock-Belmont-Methuen is a township in central-eastern Ontario, Canada, in Peterborough County. On January 1, 1998, Belmont and Methuen Township amalgamated with the Village of Havelock to form what is now Havelock-Belmont-Methuen.
Asphodel–Norwood is a lower tier township municipality in Peterborough County in Central Ontario, Canada, with a 2021 population of 4,658. The land on which the township is situated is the traditional territory of the Mississauga, and became open to European colonization following its survey in 1820. The site that would become Norwood was settled in 1823, and it was incorporated as a village in 1878. The township, in its current form, was created in 1998 by the reunification of the village of Norwood with the surrounding township of Asphodel.

Richard Birdsall was a British born Upper Canadian land surveyor, land agent, politician, justice of the peace, and militia officer. Born in rural Yorkshire, England, he emigrated to Upper Canada in 1817, settling initially in the Township of Vaughan. Birdsall received a license for land surveying in 1819 and began his career that same year. Birdsall would go on to survey many areas in Newcastle District as well as other parts of what is now Southern Ontario, establishing the boundaries of many townships of the province and laying out the roads and farming lots within them.

This riding was created in 1975 from parts of Hastings and Peterborough East ridings. It was an approximate duplication of the federal electoral district of Hastings—Peterborough.
The Otonabee Region Conservation Authority (ORCA), sometimes shortened to Otonabee Conservation, is a conservation authority in Ontario, Canada. Established in 1959 and based in Peterborough, its member municipalities include Asphodel-Norwood, Cavan-Monaghan, Douro-Dummer, City of Kawartha Lakes, Otonabee–South Monaghan, City of Peterborough, Selwyn, and Trent Hills. Major watercourses within the watershed administered by ORCA include the Otonabee, Indian, and Ouse rivers, and Baxter, Cavan, Jackson, Miller and Squirrel creeks.
