Qibao Old Street [1] is a historic area of Qibao in the Minhang District of Shanghai,China. [2]
The area is now a tourist attraction,located by the Puhui River with traditional Chinese architecture and a number of attractions,including museums and street food. [3] It is located south of Qingnian Road. [4]
The area was once the residence of the painter and sculptor Zhang Chongren,a friend of the Belgian cartoonist Hergé,on whom the character Chang Chong-Chen from "The Adventures of Tintin" was based. Qibao is also known for crickets (with a "Cricket House") in the Qibao Old Street area. The entire area is pedestrianised.

There are three arched stone footbridges over the Puhui River (from west to east):
Tea houses line the Puhui River and there are boat rides from a wharf. There are many shops selling souvenirs and food,especially street food. [5]
Qibao Old Town can be accessed by taking Shanghai Metro Line 9 to Qibao Station. The most convenient access is from Exit 2.
Zhang Chongren,also known as Chang Chong-jen,was a Chinese sculptor best remembered in Europe as a friend of Hergé,the Belgian cartoonist and creator of The Adventures of Tintin. The two met when Zhang was an art student in Brussels. Zhang served as the inspiration for Chang Chong-Chen,a recurring character in the Tintin stories.
Huangpu District,makes up the eastern part of Shanghai's traditional urban core and is today the most central of Shanghai's 16 districts. Huangpu district is the seat of municipal government,includes key attractions such as The Bund and the Old City God Temple,as well as popular shopping districts such as Nanjing Road,Huaihai Road,and Xintiandi. The Huangpu District is one of the most densely populated urban districts in the world.
The Bund is a waterfront area and a protected historical district in central Shanghai. The area centers on a section of Zhongshan Road within the former Shanghai International Settlement,which runs along the western bank of the Huangpu River in the eastern part of Huangpu District. The area along the river faces the modern skyscrapers of Lujiazui in the Pudong District. The Bund usually refers to the buildings and wharves on this section of the road,as well as some adjacent areas. This region has a significant European influence,with the style of many structures most comparable to that of European cities,particularly Gothic,Baroque,Neoclassical,Romanesque,Art Deco,and Renaissance architecture. Additionally,some of the city's top eateries are located there. From the 1860s to the 1930s,it was the rich and powerful center of the foreign establishment in Shanghai,operating as a legally protected treaty port.
Minhang District is a suburban district of Shanghai with a land area of 371.57 km2 (143.46 sq mi) and population of 2,429,000 residents as of 2010. The original Minhang consist of present-day Jiangchuan Road Subdistrict and the eastern strip of Wujing along the Huangpu River in 1992,the surrounding Shanghai County merged with Minhang.

It cost 2.5 billion yuan,including US$78.04 for the main steel structure alone. It is located adjacent to the former Expo 2010 site and served as the centrepiece of the world exposition in Shanghai.
