The province of Aceh in Indonesia is divided into regencies and cities, each of which in turn is divided administratively into subdistricts, known as kecamatan .
The Provinces of Indonesia are the 34 largest subdivisions of the country and the highest tier of the local government. Provinces are further divided into regencies and cities, which are in turn subdivided into subdistricts (kecamatan).
Aceh is a province of Indonesia, located at the northern end of Sumatra. Its capital and largest city is Banda Aceh. It is close to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands of India and separated from them by the Andaman Sea. Granted a special autonomous status, Aceh is a religiously conservative territory and the only Indonesian province practicing Sharia law officially. There are ten indigenous ethnic groups in this region, the largest being the Acehnese people, accounting for approximately 80% to 90% of the region's population.

West Aceh Regency is a regency in the Aceh special region of Indonesia. It is located on the island of Sumatra. The regency currently covers an area of 2,927.95 square kilometres and according to the 2010 census had a population of 173,558; the latest estimate is 182,721. These figures include the city of Meulaboh, which was the seat of the regency government until 8 July 2013 when it was separated out as an independent city. The regency is a palm oil-producing area. Some of the people of the regency are Minangkabau-descended Aneuk Jamee.
Aceh Besar Regency is a regency of Aceh Special Territory, Indonesia. The Regency covers an area of 2,969 square kilometres and according to the 2010 census had a population of 351,418; the latest official estimate is 369,972. The Regency is located at the northwest tip of Sumatra island and surrounds the provincial capital of Banda Aceh. The seat of the Regency government is Jantho. The regency is divided into 23 districts with 618 villages.

Gayo Lues Regency is a regency in the Aceh Special Region of Indonesia. It is located on the island of Sumatra. The regency was created in 2002 under Statute UU 4/2002 from the northern part of Aceh Tenggara. Its capital is Blangkejeren. The regency covers an area of 5,719.58 square kilometres and according to the 2010 census had a population of 79,560; the latest official estimate is 83,761. Along with the Central Aceh Regency and the Bener Meriah Regency it is home to the Gayo people.
Pidie Regency is a regency of Aceh Special region, in Indonesia. It is located in the north of the island of Sumatra, in Western Indonesia, bordered by the Malacca Strait and Pidie Jaya Regency in the north, Aceh Besar Regency in the west, Bireuen Regency in the northeast, and Aceh Jaya Regency in the south. The regency covers an area of 3,086.95 square kilometres and according to the 2012 census had a population of 443,718 people. Pidie was the largest rice-producing area of Aceh province, producing some 20% of its total output.
East Aceh Regency is a regency in eastern Aceh Special Region of Indonesia. It is located on the island of Sumatra. The regency covers an area of 6,286.01 square kilometres and according to the 2010 census had a population of 360,475 people; the latest official estimate is 379,507.
North Aceh Regency is a regency in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam, in Indonesia. It is located on the island of Sumatra. The regency covers an area of 3,236.86 square kilometres and according to the 2010 census had a population of 529,751; the latest official estimate is 557,721. This follows the separation in 2001 of the former capital of Lhokseumawe, which was cut out of the regency to form an independent city.
South Aceh Regency is a regency in the Aceh special region of Indonesia. It is located on the island of Sumatra. The regency covers an area of 3,841.60 square kilometres and according to the 2010 census had a population of 202,251 people; the latest official estimate is 212,929. The seat of the regency government is at Tapaktuan.Some of the people of the regency are Minangkabau-descended Aneuk Jamee.
Aceh Singkil Regency is a regency in the Aceh province of Indonesia. It is situated largely on the island of Sumatra, but also includes the offshore Banyak Islands, the largest of which is Tuangku, with the principal town of Alaban. The seat of the regency government is at Singkil on the Sumatra coast.
Aceh Tamiang Regency is a regency in the Aceh province of Indonesia. It is located on the island of Sumatra. The regency covers an area of 1,939 square kilometres and according to the 2000 census had a population of 234,611 people.The seat of the regency government is at Karang Baru.
Southeast Aceh Regency is a regency in the Aceh special region of Indonesia. It is located on the island of Sumatra. The regency covers an area of 4,231.41 square kilometres and according to the 2010 census had a population of 179,010 people; the latest official estimate is 188,461. The seat of the regency government is at Kutacane. In 1974, the Southeast Aceh Regency was separated from the Central Aceh Regency; however in 2002 the northern part of this regency was itself split away to form the new Gayo Lues Regency. The main commodities produced in the regency are palm oil, cacao, coconut, coffee, nutmeg, walnut, and pachouli oil The main rivers are the Alas River and the Butan River. It contains the Leuser Ecosystem.
Southwest Aceh Regency is a regency in the Aceh special region of Indonesia. It is located on the island of Sumatra. The regency covers an area of 1,490.6 square kilometres and according to the 2010 census had a population of 126,036; the latest official estimate is 132,690. The seat of the regency government is at Blangpidie.

The Acehnese language is a Malayo-Polynesian language spoken by Acehnese people natively in Aceh, Sumatra, Indonesia. This language is also spoken by Acehnese descendants in some parts of Malaysia like Yan, in Kedah.
Legislative elections were held in Indonesia on 9 April 2014 to elect 136 members of the Regional Representative Council (DPD), 560 members of the People's Representative Council (DPR) and members of regional assemblies at the provincial and regency/municipality level. For eligible voters residing outside Indonesia, elections were held on 5 or 6 April 2014 based on the decision of electoral commission of each different countries.
Pakpak or Pakpak Dairi people are one of the ethnic group of Batak people found mainly in North Sumatra, Indonesia. They are scattered in a few regencies and cities in North Sumatra and Aceh, such as Dairi Regency, Pakpak Bharat Regency, Humbang Hasundutan Regency and Central Tapanuli Regency of North Sumatra, and also in Aceh Singkil Regency and Subulussalam, Aceh.
