The 1930 Maryland comptroller election was held on 4 November 1930 in order to elect the comptroller of Maryland. Democratic nominee and incumbent comptroller William S. Gordy Jr. defeated Republican nominee W. Newton Jackson, Socialist nominee Charles L. Myers, Labor nominee Samuel Einhorn and Communist nominee Lena Lipman. [1]
On election day, 4 November 1930, Democratic nominee William S. Gordy Jr. won re-election by a margin of 80,138 votes against his foremost opponent Republican nominee W. Newton Jackson, thereby retaining Democratic control over the office of comptroller. Gordy was sworn in for his fourth term on 3 January 1931. [2]

Phillips Lee Goldsborough I, was an American Republican politician who was the 47th Governor of Maryland from 1912 to 1916 and represented the state in the United States Senate from 1929 to 1935. He was also Comptroller of the Maryland Treasury from 1898 to 1900. To date, he is the last Republican to serve as Comptroller of Maryland.
