The 2025 New York City Public Advocate election will be held on November 4, 2025. Incumbent New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams is running for a third term. However, Jumaane Williams is next in line to be acting mayor if Eric Adams resigns following his indictment. [1]
The office of New York City Public Advocate is a citywide elected position in New York City, which has been first in line to succeed the mayor. The office serves as a direct link between the electorate and city government, effectively acting as an ombudsman, or watchdog, for New Yorkers.
Eric Leroy Adams is an American politician and former police officer who has served as the 110th mayor of New York City since 2022. Adams was an officer in the New York City Transit Police and then the New York City Police Department (NYPD) for more than 20 years, retiring at the rank of captain. He served in the New York State Senate from 2006 to 2013, representing the 20th district in Brooklyn. In 2013, Adams was elected Brooklyn Borough President, the first Black American to hold the position, and re-elected in 2017.
Eric Ulrich is an American politician from the state of New York. A Republican, Ulrich represented the 32nd district on the New York City Council from 2009 to 2021. In 2022, he served as New York City Buildings Commissioner and as senior advisor to Democratic New York City Mayor Eric Adams. On September 13, 2023, Ulrich was arrested on 16 felony corruption charges; he pleaded not guilty. He resigned in the midst of the investigations into the Eric Adams administration.
Bradford S. Lander is an American politician, urban planner, and community organizer who currently serves as the New York City Comptroller. A member of the Democratic Party, Lander is a progressive politician, and has been described as "one of the most left-leaning politicians in the city."
Jumaane D. Williams is an American activist and politician who has served as the New York City Public Advocate since 2019. A member of the Democratic Party and a self-described democratic socialist, He is a former member of the New York City Council from the 45th district, which includes East Flatbush, Flatbush, Flatlands, Marine Park, and Midwood in Brooklyn.
Michael Alexander Blake is an American politician and member of the Democratic Party. He formerly served as a New York Assemblyman from the 79th district and was the Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee from 2017 to 2021.

Dinowitz was elected in a special election held on March 23, 2021, after the resignation of Andrew Cohen, who was elected to the New York Supreme Court. Dinowitz assumed office on April 15, 2021 after weeks of the New York City Board of Elections counting ranked-choice voting ballots which were instituted for municipal elections beginning in 2021.

Amanda C. Farías is an American politician from New York City. She is the Democratic City Council Member for the 18th district of the New York City Council, which covers Soundview, Parkchester, and Castle Hill in the Bronx. She was appointed by Speaker Adrienne Adams to be Majority Leader of the New York City Council on January 3, 2024. She is Chair of the Committee on Economic Development, and sit as a member on the following committees transportation, finance, sanitation, consumer and worker protection, cultural and intergoup relations, and Co-Chair of the Women’s Caucus, and a member of the Black, Latino and Asian Caucus and Progressive Caucus. In 2024, she became the first Latina to hold the position of majority leader in the city council.
Sheena Wright is an American nonprofit executive and civil servant. She served as the First Deputy Mayor of New York City and was previously the president of the United Way of New York City. In August 2021, she was appointed chair of New York City mayor-elect Eric Adams's transition team. On December 6, 2022, Adams named her Deputy Mayor for Strategic Initiatives, a role she assumed in January 2023. Wright later resigned amid investigations into the Eric Adams administration.
