The 4th Filmfare Awards Bangla ceremony, presented by The Times Group, honoured the best Bengali language Indian films of 2019. The ceremony was held on 31 March 2021 in Kolkata. [1]

Contents

Robibaar led the ceremony with 10 nominations, winning 3 awards including Best Film Critics' (for Atanu Ghosh) and Best Actress Critics' (for Jaya Ahsan). It was followed by Parineeta with 7 nominations, winning Best Actress (for Subhashree Ganguly). Nagarkirtan emerged as the most awarded film, with wins including Best Actor Critics' (for Riddhi Sen).

Swastika Mukherjee received dual nominations for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress, eventually winning the former (also shared by Subhashree Ganguly).

Ceremony

The ceremony was held at the ITC Royal Bengal, Kolkata. Joy was announced to the title sponsor by Jitesh Pillai, the editor of Filmfare , at a press conference held prior to the ceremony. While Anirban Bhattacharya, Arpita Chatterjee and Parambrata Chatterjee served as the co-hosts, Ishaa Saha, Madhumita Sarcar and Sauraseni Maitra performed at the ceremony.

Srijit Mukherji is an Indian film director and screenwriter who predominantly works in Bengali cinema. His regular collaboration with veteran actor Prosenjit Chatterjee brought him into the limelight. His fifth film, Jaatishwar, won four national awards at India's 61st National Film Awards (2014). Kaushik Ganguly is an Indian film director, screenwriter and actor in Bengali cinema. Multiple National Film Awards winner Actor-Director, Kaushik Ganguly is known for making films that explore various aspects sexuality, like Ushnatar Janye (2003), which deals with a lesbian relationship, and Arekti Premer Golpo (2010), which examines transgender identity & Nagarkirtan (2017), an LGBTQ Movie. In 2019, Film Companion ranked Ridhi Sen's performance in Nagarkirtan which was directed by Ganguly, among 100 Greatest Performances of the decade.

<i>Aborto</i> 2013 Indian film

Aborto is a Bengali film released on 1 March 2013 and directed by Arindam Sil in his directorial debut. According to Sil, this film would be the greatest tribute to Satyajit Ray that has ever been made. The film stars Tota Roy Chowdhury, Bangladeshi actress Jaya Ahsan and Abir Chatterjee in lead roles. The screenplay was written by filmmaker Atanu Ghosh, but was not acknowledged on the posters by the director.

Hyderabad Bengali Film Festival (HBFF) is a Bengali film festival in the city of Hyderabad and is being organized annually since 2014. The venue of the festival is the Prasad Film Preview Labs, Hyderabad. The first edition of the film festival was held in the year 2014. It is the only curated Bengali film festival in India.

<i>Bijoya</i> 2019 Bengali film

Bijoya (transl. Victory) is a 2019 Indian Bengali-language film directed by Kaushik Ganguly, produced by Opera Movies and presented by Suparnokanti Karati. It serves as the sequel to Bishorjan (2017) and stars Abir Chatterjee and Jaya Ahsan reprising their roles from the previous film. The movie continues the ending of Bishorjon and explores the story six years later Nasir Ali first met Padma. The film was released on 4 January 2019.

The 5th Filmfare Awards Bangla ceremony, presented by The Times Group, honor the best Bengali language Indian films of 2020–2021. The nominations were announced on 14 March 2022. The ceremony was held on 17 March 2022 in Kolkata. Borunbabur Bondhu and Tonic shared the award for Best Film. The Award Show was aired on 24 and 30 April 2022 on Zee Bangla and Zee Bangla Cinema respectively. The show was hosted by Abir Chatterjee, Sohini Sarkar and Anirban Bhattacharya.

<i>Projapoti</i> (2022 film) 2022 Bengali film by Avijit Sen

Projapoti is a 2022 Indian Bengali-language family drama film directed by Avijit Sen, produced by Atanu Raychaudhuri, co-produced by Dev and distributed by SSR Cinemas. The film features Dev himself, alongside Mithun Chakraborty, Mamata Shankar, Koushani Mukherjee and Shweta Bhattacharya in lead roles. The movie was theatrically released on 23 December 2022 and had its digital premiere on the streaming platform ZEE5 on 14 April 2023. It received a blockbuster verdict at the box office. Made on a budget of 1.5 crore, it grossed over 13 crore and became the highest grossing Bengali film of 2022 and the third highest-grossing Bengali films of all time.

7th Edition of The WBFJA Award, also known as Cinemar Samabartan took place on 14 January 2024 honoring the best films of 2023.
