According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 36.0 square miles (93 km2), of which, 34.0 square miles (88 km2) of it is land and 2.0 square miles (5.2 km2) of it (5.61%) is water. White Ash Lake is located in the town.
As of the census [2] of 2000, there were 1,067 people, 418 households, and 310 families residing in the town. The population density was 31.4 people per square mile (12.1 people/km2). There were 625 housing units at an average density of 18.4 per square mile (7.1/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 97.84% White, 0.28% African American, 1.31% Native American, and 0.56% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.31% of the population.
There were 418 households, out of which 33.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.4% were married couples living together, 6.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.8% were non-families. 19.6% of all households were made up of individuals, and 5.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
