Atresplayer [2] (formerly Atresplayer Premium) is a Spanish paid video-on-demand over-the-top streaming service of Atresmedia. It is marketed outside Spain as Atresplayer Internacional. [3]
The paid suscription was launched in Spain on 8 September 2019. [4] The first original series released on the platform was El Nudo . [4] Besides the regular services offered by the ad-supported Atresplayer (catch-up service and some series), Atresplayer Premium early offered three main types of programming: Premium Exclusivo (full releases before free-to-air broadcasting), Premium Preestreno (series releasing a week before free-to-air broadcasting), and exclusive programming. [5]
In December of 2021, Atresplayer had over 600,000 subscribers. [5]
Unlike its rival paid suscription, Mitele Plus (initially betting on football/sport as a main business line while leasing exclusive content rights in Spain to Amazon Prime Video), [6] [4] Atresplayer Premium restricted its offer to streaming original programming. [4] It was available outside Spain in Latin America, the United States, Canada, and Mexico under the "Paquete Premium Internacional" subscription mode. [7] There is, however, geo-blocked content. [7]
Since Atresplayer Premium's launch, much of the Atresmedia original programming has been first released on the platform, including series such as La valla, Veneno, #Luimelia, Toy Boy , or Perdida.

Television in Spain was introduced in 1956, when the national state-owned public service television broadcaster Televisión Española (TVE) started regular analog free-to-air terrestrial black and white broadcasts. Colour transmissions started in 1972 after two years of test transmissions, with all programming transmitted in color in 1977, and colour commercials starting in 1978. TVE held a monopoly on television broadcasting until regional public channels were launched during the 1980s and commercial television started nationwide in 1990. Digital terrestrial television was launched on 30 November 2005 with analog service discontinued on 3 April 2010. Currently, television is one of the leading mass media of the country, and by 2008 was in 99.7% of households in Spain according to INE statistics.
