Chorki is a Bangladeshi subscription-based over-the-top media service owned by Transcom Group via Prothom Alo subsidiary of Mediastar Limited, and it was launched on 12 July 2021. [4] The service shows original content and content from other providers, including television series, films, and documentaries. The service is available in an ad-free version with limited content, while the premium tier includes a larger content library including original shows and films. [5] [6]

Contents

History

Mediastar Ltd. in 2020 to launch an OTT platform and named it Chorki. [7] [8] Film maker Redoan Rony is the CEO of Chorki and Zaraif Hossain is the President, Head of Strategy, Chorki. In April 2021, Indian High Commission of Dhaka shares 38 documentary films with Chorki. [9] On 12 July 2021, a launching ceremony was held on online due to the lockdown of the COVID-19 pandemic and Chorki started its journey with a motto - Film, Fun, Foorti. Jaya Ahsan and many more stars joined in online in this opening ceremony. [10] Chorki is currently available for Android, iOS, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Samsung Smart TV. [11] [12] Chorki won the Best Digital Diversification Project award at the Bangladesh Media Innovation Awards 2022 held in September 2022. [13] On October 4, 2023, Chorki enters India. [14]

Content

Chorki mainly focuses on Bangla language content. [15] They also show Turkish and Iranian films with Bangla dubbed version. It has two categories of contents premium and free respectively. To watch premium content subscription is required for a wide variety of video content such as movies, series, Shows, non-fiction Content, Music Video, Chorki Original content, and many more Bangla and foreign language video contents. [16] They started their journey with over 200 titles of films, TV series, documentaries, TV dramas, etc. [17]

Chorki has partnered with leading global streaming and OTT solution provider, ViewLift to power its on-demand video streaming service. [18] Chorki platform uses AVOD, SVOD and TVOD models to monetize its content.

Nurul Alam Atique is a Bangladeshi television dramatist, scriptwriter and film-maker. Atique received the Bangladesh National Film Award as the best scriptwriter for the full-length feature film Kittonkhola directed by Abu Sayeed. He also received the National Award for Best Scriptwriter for the film Laal Moroger Jhuti, which he directed himself. This film, based on the Liberation War of 1971 in Bangladesh, won four National Awards, including Best Film. He also received the Meril-Prothom Alo Awards as the best director and best scriptwriter for his first film Choturtha Matra. His film Peyarar Subash was an official selection of 45th Moscow International Film Festival and was later released in theatres in Bangladesh and available on Chorki.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Television in Bangladesh</span>

Television is one of the most popular forms of media and information in Bangladesh. It was one of the first countries in South Asia to introduce television on 25 December 1964, in the then East Pakistan under the state-owned television network Pakistan Television Corporation in its capital, Dhaka. After the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971, the Dhaka television station of PTV was renamed to Bangladesh Television, which had a monopoly on the country's television industry until 1997, with the launch of ATN Bangla on satellite television. Since then, the number of privately owned television channels saw a tremendous rise in the Bangladeshi television market.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Chanchal Chowdhury</span> Bangladeshi actor (born 1974)

Suchinta Chowdhury Chanchal, better known as Chanchal Chowdhury, , is a Bangladeshi actor. He gained recognition with television roles in late 2000s, and went on to become one of the most popular leading men of Bangla cinema in the following decade. He is the recipient of several accolades, including three National Film Awards and seven Meril Prothom Alo Awards.

Forget Me Not is a 2024 Bengali-language Bangladeshi romantic psychological drama film. Robiul Alam Robi wrote the screenplay and dialogues along with the direction. Starring Yash Rohan and Mehazabien Chowdhury in the lead roles. This is Ministry of Love's 4th film, which was released on OTT Chorki on 5 September 2024.

Mamnun Hasan Emon is a Bangladeshi film actor and model. He made his debut with the 2007 film Daruchini Dip starring Riaz, Momo and Bindu. He is addressed as "King of Dhallywood" and "Superstar" and "Film Star" in the media.

Raihan Rafi is a Bangladeshi film director, screenwriter and producer. He is best known for his directorial debut, Poramon 2 (2018) produced by Abdul Aziz and under the banner of Jaaz Multimedia. The film won awards in three categories at Meril Prothom Alo Awards for Most Critic Movie of the Year, Best Actor and Best Actress. He won Blender's Choice The Daily Star Awards for Best Screenwriter of the film Khachar Bhitor Ochin Pakhi (2021) steaming and released on Chorki.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Nagorik (TV channel)</span> Bangladeshi TV channel

Nagorik is a Bangladeshi Bengali-language privately owned satellite and cable television channel owned by Jadoo Media Limited, and is based in Khilkhet, Dhaka. It began operations on 1 March 2018, with the slogan, "Television Noy, Somporko". Nagorik claims that they do not compete with local Bangladeshi television channels, and instead compete with foreign television channels by working with the local ones.

Tasnia Zamil Farin is a Bangladeshi actress, model and singer. She has worked in Indian Bengali film industry, Tollywood of West Bengal. Critically acclaimed for her work in Karagar. She rose to fame with her central role in the web series Ladies & Gentlemen directed by Mostofa Sarwar Farooki. The ZEE5 web series released on 9 July 2021. She is also known for her performance in the drama EX BOYFRIEND. She has also been seen in several dramas and music videos. She played the role of a katha in a web film Networker Baire directed by Mizanur Rahman Aryan and produced by Redwan Rony, which was released on August 19 of the same year. In 2022, Farin is starring in Indian Bengali language film titled Aro Ek Prithibi Somoy Television directed by Kolkata-based filmmaker Atanu Ghosh.

Unoloukik is a Bangladeshi anthology streaming television series written by Shibabrata Barman and directed by Robiul Alam Robi. Individual episodes explore the psychoanalytic journey of the human mind. There are five episodes in this series. The first episode, Moribar Holo Taar Shwaad, premiered on 12 July 2021, and the last episode, Dwikhondito, on 12 August 2021 on OTT platform Chorki.

<i>Networker Baire</i> 2021 film directed by Mizanur Rahman Aryan

Networker Baire is a Bangladeshi romantic comedy web film written and directed by Mizanur Rahman Aryan. The story is inspired by true events. Screenplay has been done by Jobaed Ahsan along with Mizanur Rahman Aryan. The film stars Sariful Razz, Yash Rohan, Nazia Haque Orsha, Tasnuva Tisha, Khairul Basar, Junayed Bukdadi, Tasnia Farin, Nazifa Tushi, and Md. Lemon Mridha.

Farhan Ahmed Jovan is a Bangladeshi television and film actor and model. He started his acting career by appearing in the TV drama University (2012). He made his film debut on big screen with the film Ostitto (2016).

Jahid Nirob born 21 October 1994 is a Bangladeshi singer and composer best known as the member of the rock band Chirkutt. Syndicate is a Bangladeshi crime thriller web series written and directed by Shihab Shaheen. This Chorki web platform show, with seven episodes, is produced by Redoan Rony and stars Afran Nisho, Nazifa Tushi and Tasnia Farin in lead roles.

Toffee is an over-the-top streaming service available in Bangladesh, owned by Banglalink. It offers a library of films, foreign tv shows, live sports and live tv channels. It also has video sharing feature and content creators can earn by monetizing their channel.

Ministry of Love is a project by Bangladeshi OTT platform Chorki to produce 12 love movies of 12 film directors. In every film, there will be a shadow of love in the personal life of the makers. Mostofa Sarwar Farooki is the co-producer of the project. Films will be released in Chorki in phases between 2023 and 2024.
