Darwen is a market town and civil parish located in Lancashire, England. Along with its northerly neighbour, Blackburn, it forms the Borough of Blackburn with Darwen — a unitary authority area. It is known locally as "Darren" and its residents are known as "Darreners". Hoddlesden village in United Kingdom

Hoddlesden is a village in the old borough of Darwen, in Lancashire, England. The village has a population of approximately 1,300. It is in the borough's East Rural ward, and is situated east of Darwen. To the north there are the parishes of Eccleshill and Yate and Pickup Bank, to the east there is Haslingden Grane, part of the West Pennine Moors, and to the south-west there is Blacksnape, a small hamlet.

Darwen Football Club was an association football club from Darwen in Lancashire, North West England. The team, formed in 1870, was an early pioneer of professional football in Northern England, reaching the semi-finals of the 1880–81 FA Cup. They were a Football League member from 1891 to 1899. Darwen joined the Lancashire League in 1900 and remained in regional football afterwards. They last played in the First Division of the North West Counties Football League in 2008–09, when the club was wound-up. A successor team, A.F.C. Darwen, was founded soon after. Darwen played their home games at the Anchor Ground.

Catherine Malloy Hollern is a British Labour Party politician. She was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Blackburn in 2015. In January 2016, Hollern was appointed Shadow Minister for Reserves, following the reshuffle of the Shadow Cabinet, and resignation of Kevan Jones. Following another Shadow Cabinet reshuffle, she was made Shadow Minister for Local Government.

2017 Lancashire County Council election

An election to Lancashire County Council took place on 4 May 2017 as part of the 2017 local elections across the UK. All 84 councillors were elected for single-member and dual-member divisions for a four-year term of office. The system of voting used is first-past-the-post. Elections are held in all electoral divisions across the present ceremonial county, excepting Blackpool and Blackburn with Darwen which are unitary authorities.
