Chinese sanctions

Last updated

In addition to implementing the multilateral sanction decisions adopted by the United Nations Security Council, the People's Republic of China has also imposed unilateral sanctions on individuals and entities in countries or regions such as the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union, and Taiwan. Sanctions against foreign countries are announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs while sanctions against Taiwan, which the PRC claims as a province, are announced by the Taiwan Affairs Office.

The phrase "Sick man of Asia", or "Sick man of East Asia" first referred to Qing China in the late 19th and early 20th centuries which, experiencing internal divisions and social upheaval at the time, was taken advantage of by the great powers. The Subcommittee on Human Rights (DROI) is a subcommittee of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament. It is responsible for issues of human rights and democracy, including ensuring their implementation in European Union policy, encouraging dialogue with international agencies and civil society, and providing a platform for reports on and analysis of human rights both within and outside the EU.

Jiang Yu is a Chinese diplomat who serves as the special representative for cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European countries within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China. She previously served as the spokesperson within the ministry, and as Chinese ambassador to Albania (2015-2018) and Romania (2019-2012).

The Ministry of Civil Affairs the cabinet-level executive department of the State Council of China which is responsible for social and administrative affairs. It is the 10th-ranked department in the State Council. It was founded in its current form in May 1978, and the current minister is Lu Zhiyuan.

Lou Qinjian is a Chinese politician and computer scientist who had served as Communist Party Secretary of Jiangsu, Communist Party Secretary, Governor of Shaanxi and Deputy Minister of Industry and Information Technology. He has a Ph.D. in computer science from Huazhong University of Science and Technology.

Tuber was a web browser mobile app developed by Shanghai Fengxuan Information Technology that allowed users within mainland China to view filtered versions of certain websites normally blocked by the Great Firewall. Filtered versions of websites such as Google, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, Netflix, IMDb, and Wikipedia could be viewed. The app was backed by cybersecurity company Qihoo 360 which served as the parent company. The app required phone number registration. Sensitive keywords were blocked by the app.

The People's Republic of China Foreign Permanent Resident ID Card (中华人民共和国外国人永久居留身份证), colloquially referred to as the PR Card (PR卡), Green Card (绿卡) or Five-Star Card (五星卡) by expats, is an identity document for permanent residents in China.

Qi Huaiyuan was a Chinese diplomat and politician who served as director of Office of Foreign Affairs under the State Council from 1991 to 1994. Prior to that, he was assistant foreign minister in 1984 and vice foreign minister in 1986 and before that, a spokesperson of Ministry of Foreign Affairs between 1983 and 1984.

Mao Ning is a Chinese diplomat. As an official of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), she has been serving as the spokeswoman and deputy director of information at the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs since September 2022. She is also a controversial figure on the issues regarding the South China Sea.

The Press Conference of the Premier of the State Council, also known as the "Premier's Q&A with Journalists", is a meeting held by the Premier of the State Council, who serves as the head of government of China, with both domestic and foreign journalists. The Premier's press conference started in 1988 when Premier Li Peng accepted an invitation from the spokesperson of the 7th National People's Congress, Zeng Tao, to meet with journalists from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and foreign countries.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Lin Jian</span> Chinese diplomat (born 1977)

Lin Jian is a Chinese diplomat who has been serving as the 34th spokesperson and deputy director of the Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since March 2024. Lin has been working for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1999 to 2020 and was dispatched to serve as party secretary and director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps from 2020 to 2024.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Disappearance of Simon Cheng</span>

The disappearance of Simon Cheng refers to the incident in which Simon Cheng, an employee of the British Consulate General in Hong Kong, was administratively detained by the Chinese mainland police at the Hong Kong West Kowloon High Speed Rail Station on August 8, 2019, and claimed to have been forced to disappear. Because the incident occurred during the anti-extradition bill movement and because of Cheng's special identity, it attracted widespread attention from both China and Hong Kong. Later, the Luohu Branch of the Shenzhen Public Security Bureau of the Chinese police issued a situation report on the Chinese social media "Weibo" on August 26, 2019, regarding his claim of disappearance in the mainland, stating that Cheng violated the "Public Security Administration Punishment Law of the People's Republic of China" in Shenzhen and "engaged in prostitution many times", and sentenced him to administrative detention for 15 days. He was released as scheduled on August 24.
