Explorer autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) is a Chinese AUV developed in the People's Republic of China (PRC), first entering service in November 1994. It should not be confused with another two Anglo-American AUVs that share the same name: the American Autonomous Benthic Explorer AUV (ABE) built by Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, and the British Columbia-based International Submarine Engineering built Canadian Explorer AUV, which is based on its earlier ARCS AUV. Chinese wave piercing ship Beidiao 990 is the largest Chinese developed ship with wave-piercing hull. Designed by the 701st Institute of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC), the ship was built by Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Company Ltd. (武昌船舶重工有限责任公司), and was launched on June 1, 2009. Beidiao 990 has a deep-V shaped hull, and the entire ship is constructed of aluminum, the first of its kind in China. The high grade aluminum needed for the construction of the ship is supplied by Beijing Alumip Development Co., Ltd. (北京艾路浦科技发展有限公司). The name Beidiao (北调) 990 means North Investigation (Ship) 990, and the ship is unique in that it also has a second name Dongyuan (东远) 01, meaning East Distant. Although capable being deployed as a platform for various missions such as surveillance, survey, and research, the ship is currently used as a troopship by the People's Liberation Army Navy to rotate sailors and marines.

The second Chinese character is Ce (测), meaning survey in Chinese, because these ships are classified as survey ship. The first Chinese character denotes which fleet the ship is service with, with East for East Sea Fleet, North for North Sea Fleet, and South for South Sea Fleet. However, pennant numbers may have changed due to the change of Chinese naval ships naming convention.

MV Dongfang zhi Xing was a river cruise ship that operated in the Three Gorges region of inland China. On 1 June 2015, the ship was traveling on the Yangtze River in Jianli, Hubei Province with 454 people on board when it capsized in a severe thunderstorm. On 13 June, 442 deaths were confirmed, with 12 rescued. It is the deadliest peacetime maritime disaster in China's history, and the worst maritime disaster since the steamer Taiping sank in 1949, killing more than 1,500.
The 3200-horsepower class tug is a little known class of naval auxiliary currently in service with the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN). Built by Wuhu Xinlian Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (芜湖新联造船有限公司), formerly Wuhu Shipyard, since 2004, the name of this class is taken from the installed power of the vessels, with the exact type designation still remaining unknown. After the first pair was built, as of the mid-2010s, a total of twelve of this class have been confirmed as being in active service. The unit price of each ship is more than a hundred ¥.
