London Borough of Croydon London borough in United Kingdom

The London Borough of Croydon is a London borough in south London, England and is part of Outer London. It covers an area of 87 km2 (33.6 sq mi) and is the largest London borough by population. It is the southernmost borough of London. At its centre is the historic town of Croydon from which the borough takes its name. Croydon is mentioned in Domesday Book, and from a small market town has expanded into one of the most populous areas on the fringe of London. Croydon is the civic centre of the borough. The borough is now one of London's leading business, financial and cultural centres, and its influence in entertainment and the arts contribute to its status as a major metropolitan centre.

Contents

In London council elections the entire council is elected every four years, as opposed to some local elections where one councillor is elected every year in three of the four years.

An election petition was lodged against the result in the Waddon ward, concerning allegations that not all voters who wished to vote on election day were allowed to vote. The case, supported by the Electoral Commission as a test case, was later withdrawn at the High Court [1] [2]

An election petition refers to the procedure for challenging the result of a Parliamentary election.

Waddon is a ward in the London Borough of Croydon. covering most of the Waddon Area. The new ward gained territory from Broad Green, and lost some to South Croydon as a result of the review. The first election since the boundary changes is on 3 May 2018 as part of the 2018 local elections.. The Labour councillors held all 3 seats.
