Iruvazhanjippuzha, or Iruvanjipuzha, is a major tributary of River Chaliyar and joining to Chaliyar at Koolimadu near Cheruvadi. Its major tributary is Chalippuzha, which joins with it about 3 km north of Thiruvambady town. Other tributaries are Muthappanpuzha (joining at Anakkampoyil), ulingappuzha (joining at Thiruvambadi) and Karamoola river (join at Mukkam). The famous Thusharagiri waterfall is in the Chalippuzha river. Every year, the Malabar River Festival happens in this river, which is recognized as the biggest Kayak event in Asia.

The villages of Anakkampoyil, kandappanchal,Narangathode,Thiruvambady, Mukkam, Kodiyathur, Chennamangallur and Cheruvadi are on the banks of this river.

Naadan Premam (transl: Love in the Countryside), a major romantic novel by Malayalam writer S. K. Pottekkatt, is set in the backdrops of Iruvanjippuzha. The river is also mentioned in the film Ennu Ninte Moideen . In this film it shows how the real character dies B. P. Moideen after drowning in the Iruvanjippuzha River.

Ennu Ninte Moideen is a 2015 Indian Malayalam-language biographical romantic drama film written and directed by R. S. Vimal, based on the real-life story of Kanchanamala and B. P. Moideen, which took place in the 1960s in Mukkam, Kozhikode. Prithviraj Sukumaran and Parvathy Thiruvothu essay the title characters of Moideen and Kanchanamala while Bala, Tovino Thomas, Sai Kumar, Sashi Kumar and Lena appear in supporting roles.

Naadan Premam is a Malayalam novel written by S. K. Pottekkatt in 1941. It is a short novel written when the author was in Bombay and tells the story of an innocent village belle jilted by a modern man-about-town. It is set entirely in Mukkam, a rustic village on the banks of the Iruvanjippuzha, a major tributary of River Chaliyar. Written initially as a film treatment and later converted into a novel, it was serialised in Kerala Kaumudi newspaper and released as a book in August 1941. It was adapted into a film of the same name in 1972 but was not a success on the screen.

R.S.Vimal is an Indian filmmaker who works in Malayalam film industry. He made his directorial debut in 2015 with the Malayalam film Ennu Ninte Moideen, for which he received the Filmfare Award for Best Director – Malayalam.

Thottumukkam is a boarder village in the districts of Kozhikode and Malappuram Kerala, India, under the administration of Kodiyathur Grama Panchayath on the banks of Thottumukkampuzha, a major tributary of Chaliyar. It is bordered by Karassery of Kozhikode district and Urangattiri and Kizhuparamba Grama Panchayats of Malappuram district. Most of the people in the village are migrated farmers.

Balyambra Pottattu Moideen was an Indian politician, film producer, and publisher from Kerala. He was Praja Socialist Party's youth wing president for Kerala, and was elected member of Mukkam Panchayat in 1979. Moideen published Sports Herald, a Malayalam sports magazine. His debut production was a Malayalam film Nizhale Nee Sakshi in 1977, which also debuted Seema as a lead actress, and focused on the 1976 death of college student P. Rajan following torture in police custody. However, the film was never released. Moideen later produced the films Abhinayam (1981) starring Jayan, and India Nee Sundari.

The Malabar River Festival is a white water kayaking championship held in Kozhikode district, Kerala. Down River Extreme Rays is an important item of the game. The championship is organized by the Kerala Tourism Department, District Tourism Promotion Council and Kozhikode District Panchayat. International players from different countries are also competing in this game. The competitions will be held in the tributaries of the Chaliyar River, Iruvanjippuzha and Chalippuzha. The championship was first held in 2013. The competitions are held in various categories, including slalom, boater cross, downriver, and super final extreme races. It is the only white water kayaking championship in South India. The man who wins the championship is called Rapid Raja and the woman is called Rapid Rani. The kayaking championship begins at Pulikkayam near Kodenchery village.

Kozhikode–Wayanad Tunnel Road is a proposed twin-tube tunnel road project in the South Indian state of Kerala. The proposed tunnel, which is being described as the third longest underpass in India would run through the sensitive hills and forests of the Western Ghats. It would provide an alternate route between Kozhikode and Wayanad and will reduce the distance between Anakkampoil and Meppady from 42 kilometres to less than 20 kilometres. The tunnel road is also expected to lead to a better economic growth and development in the region. Once the construction is completed, the distance between Kochi and Bengaluru would be shortened, and the districts of Wayanad and Kozhikode will be linked without crossing the Thamarassery Churam. Konkan Railway was appointed as SPV for tunnel project by Kerala Government. On 2024 September, Konkan Railway opened tenders for project and out of 7 bids Dilip Buildcon Limited awarded the project for INR 1341 crore with a construction period of 4 years. Approach Bridge at Iruvanjippuzha tender awarded to Royal Infra Construct at 80.4 crores.
