K-5 (pronounced "kay through five") is an American term for the education period from kindergarten to fifth grade. It receives equal amounts of criticism and support in the educational industry. While many early childhood experts deem it too closely aligned with more developmentally inappropriate "watered-down" early elementary teaching methods, administrators and policy-makers see it as a way to integrate kindergarten under the guise of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001.

The Avery Coonley School (ACS), commonly called Avery Coonley, is an independent, coeducational day school serving academically gifted students in preschool through eighth grade, and is located in Downers Grove, DuPage County, Illinois. The school was founded in 1906 to promote the progressive educational theories developed by John Dewey and other turn-of-the-20th-century philosophers, and was a nationally recognized model for progressive education well into the 1940s. From 1943 to 1965, Avery Coonley was part of the National College of Education, serving as a living laboratory for teacher training and educational research. In the 1960s, ACS became a regional research center and a leadership hub for independent schools, and began to focus on the education of the gifted.
Mar Elias Educational Institutions include a kindergarten, elementary, junior high, and high school. The institution is under the direction of a Board which includes the founder and retired archbishop Elias Chacour. The institutions are located in Ibillin, an Arab village in northern Israel. Arab students from all over the Galilee gather at the institutions. The Institution serves Muslim (60%) and Christian (40%) students, while extending an invitation to students of other religions. The Laveen Elementary School District is the K-8 school district for Laveen, an area of southwest Phoenix, Arizona. It operates eight schools, serving about 7,200 students in 2018. Laveen ESD is one of 13 elementary school districts in the Phoenix area that feed into the Phoenix Union High School District. The superintendent of Laveen ESD was Dr. Bill Johnson who retired in 2020 and is succeeded by the former Director of Human Resources for the Laveen School District Dr. Jeffrey Sprout.
