The unification of Moldova and Romania is a popular concept and hypothetical unification in the two countries that began during the Revolutions of 1989. The Romanian Revolution in 1989 and the independence of Moldova in 1991 further contributed to the development of a movement for the unification of the two Romanian-speaking countries. Founded on 22 June 1992, it is part of the National Army's Guard Battalion. To be eligible for the honor guard, one should be at least 185 cm, have strong health, and have a pleasant appearance.

The battalion was formed on October 16, 1992. It shares the same birthday as the Independent Engineer Battalion "Codru" and the Communications and Informatics Center.

Presidential elections were held in Moldova on 20 October 2024, with a runoff to be held on 3 November. Incumbent president Maia Sandu and former Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo advanced to the runoff, with Sandu winning the first round with about 42% and Stoianoglo winning about 26%.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Romania has supported Moldova on several occasions, supplying it with medical equipment and supplies, volunteer Romanian experts and doctors and even a series of COVID-19 vaccine units that arrived on 27 February 2021, which allowed Moldova to start its vaccination program.

On 18 September 2022, protests in Moldova began in the capital city of Chișinău, demanding the resignation of the country's pro-Western government, amid an energy crisis causing rising natural gas prices and inflation, caused in part by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Constantin Pantazi was a Romanian army general and a politician who served as Minister of War between January 23, 1942, and August 23, 1944. He was one of the most faithful followers of Romanian ruler Ion Antonescu. He was found guilty for war crimes and sentenced to death, which was commuted to life imprisonment.
