The following List of hospitals in the U.S. state of Minnesota is given in the order of the city where the hospital is or was located. It is also sortable by county, name, health system, and number of staffed beds. Hospitals that have closed are notated with the year of closing. Minnesota's oldest hospital is M Health Fairview's St. Joseph's Hospital in St. Paul, which first opened in 1853 in the Minnesota Territory. The largest hospital, in terms of staffed beds, is Mayo Clinic Hospital - Rochester, which was founded in 1864 by William and Charlie Mayo and has a total of 2,014 beds (1,220 beds at its St. Marys campus and 794 at its Methodist campus). There are twice as many rural hospitals as urban hospitals in Minnesota. In 2017, Minnesota hospitals provided 536,375 inpatient visits and nearly 12.7 million outpatient visits. [1]
According to the Minnesota Department of Health, there were 130 state licensed hospitals with 16,140 beds in 2019. There were an additional six federally licensed hospitals in Minnesota. [2]

Mayo Clinic is a nonprofit American academic medical center focused on integrated health care, education, and research. It employs over 7,300 physicians and scientists, along with another 66,000 administrative and allied health staff, across three major campuses: Rochester, Minnesota; Jacksonville, Florida; and Phoenix/Scottsdale, Arizona. The practice specializes in treating difficult cases through tertiary care and destination medicine. It is home to the top-15 ranked Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine in addition to many of the highest regarded residency education programs in the United States. It spends over $660 million a year on research and has more than 3,000 full-time research personnel.
The Mayo Clinic Hospital – Rochester is a 2,059-bed teaching hospital located in Rochester, Minnesota. It comprises the Saint Marys Campus with its Mayo Eugenio Litta Children's Hospital, as well as its Methodist Campus, forming an integral part of the Mayo Clinic academic medical center. Mayo Clinic Hospital – Rochester is ranked first on the 2019–20 U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals Honor Roll.
Cleveland Clinic is an American nonprofit academic medical center based in Cleveland, Ohio. Owned and operated by the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, an Ohio nonprofit corporation, Cleveland Clinic was founded in 1921 by a group of faculty and alumni from the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. The Clinic runs a 170-acre (69-hectare) main campus in Cleveland, as well as 14 affiliated hospitals, 20 family health centers in Northeast Ohio, 5 affiliated hospitals in Florida, and cancer center in Nevada. International operations include the Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi hospital in the United Arab Emirates and Cleveland Clinic Canada, which has two executive health and sports medicine clinics in Toronto. Another hospital campus in the United Kingdom, Cleveland Clinic London, opened to outpatients in 2021 and fully opened in 2022. Tomislav Mihaljevic is the president and CEO.
Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) is a Level I adult and pediatric trauma center and safety net hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the county seat of Hennepin County. The primary 484-bed facility is on six city blocks across the street from U.S. Bank Stadium, with neighborhood clinics in the Minneapolis Whittier and East Lake neighborhoods, and the suburban communities of Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park, Golden Valley, St. Anthony and Richfield. A new clinic in the North Loop neighborhood downtown opened in 2017. HCMC has recognized trauma surgery specialists, transplant services, stroke specialists, advanced endoscopy/hepatobilliary center, and hyperbaric oxygen chamber. A new outpatient clinic building opened in 2018. In March 2018, the provider that operates HCMC was rebranded as Hennepin Healthcare. However, the hospital retained the name HCMC.
Intermountain Health is a United States not-for-profit healthcare system with 385 clinics and 33 hospitals in the Intermountain West. The company's headquarters are in Salt Lake City, Utah. Colorado-based SCL Health and Intermountain Health merged in 2022. The combined system employs more than 58,000 people.
Essentia Health is an integrated healthcare system with facilities in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and North Dakota. As of 2022 it has over 14,000 employees, including 2,125 physicians and credentialed practitioners. The network includes 14 hospitals, 70 clinics, six long-term care facilities, six assisted and independent living facilities, and one research & education institute. Essentia Health was accredited as an Accountable Care Organization by the National Committee for Quality Assurance in 2013.
M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center (UMMC) previously known as University of Minnesota Medical Center, is a 1700-bed non-profit, tertiary, research and academic medical center located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, servicing the entire region. UMMC is the region's only university-level academic medical center. The hospital is operated by the M Health Fairview Health System and the largest hospital in the system. UMMC is affiliated with the University of Minnesota Medical School. UMMC is also an ACS designated level II trauma center and has a rooftop helipad to handle medevac patients. Attached to the medical center is the Masonic Children's Hospital that treats infants, children, adolescents, and young adults up to the age of 21.
The University of Minnesota Medical School is a medical school at the University of Minnesota. It is a combination of two campuses located in Minneapolis and Duluth, Minnesota.

Allina Medical Transportation covers eight regions and over 80 communities providing medical dispatch, 911 pre-arrival instructions, and emergency and non-emergency ambulance service. Allina’s 911 Communications Center provides 911 pre-arrival instructions and medical dispatch services to CentraCare Health EMS, Lakes Region EMS, and HealthPartners Lakeview EMS.

Fairview announced the hospital would close by year's end in October 2022. All hospital patient care has moved to other locations.
