Lien ran for the President of the Republic of China on behalf of the Kuomintang twice in 2000 and 2004, but both lost to Chen Shui-bian of the Democratic Progressive Party. Upon his retirement as KMT Chairman in August 2005, he was given the title Honorary Chairman of KMT. He is highly credited after holding a groundbreaking visit to Mainland China in his capacity as the Chairman of the Kuomintang to meet with the General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party Hu Jintao on 29 April 2005, the first meeting between the two party leaders after the end of Chinese Civil War in 1949, which subsequently helped thaw the long-stalled cross-strait relations.

Hu Jintao is a Chinese retired politician who served as the general secretary of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) from 2002 to 2012, the president of China from 2003 to 2013, and chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC) from 2004 to 2012. He was a member of the CCP Politburo Standing Committee, China's de facto top decision-making body, from 1992 to 2012. Hu was the fifth paramount leader of China from 2002 to 2012.

"Hurting the feelings of the Chinese people" is a political catchphrase used by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, in addition to Chinese state media organisations and Chinese Communist Party–affiliated news outlets such as the People's Daily, the China Daily and Xinhua News Agency to express dissatisfaction with or condemnation of the words, actions or policies of a person, organisation, or government that are perceived to be of an adversarial nature towards China, through the adoption of an argumentum ad populum position against the condemned target. Alternative forms of the catchphrase include "hurting the feelings of 1.3 billion people" and "hurting the feelings of the Chinese nation".

<span class="mw-page-title-main">20th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party</span> 2022 Chinese Communist Party conference

The 20th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), commonly referred to as Èrshí Dà, was held in the Great Hall of the People, Beijing from 16 to 22 October 2022. The National Congress is the highest organ of the party, and is stipulated to be held every five years. The conference had 2,296 delegates and 83 specially invited delegates.

On October 22, 2022, Hu Jintao, former General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party, was escorted out of the hall at the closing ceremony of the 20th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party. He was pulled from his seat by two men following the incumbent General Secretary Xi Jinping's instructions. As media from across the world had entered the venue at the time of the incident, it quickly became the focus of international coverage.

Huang Minhui is a diplomat of the People's Republic of China. She served as the Chinese Ambassador to Peru from 2011 to 2015. She was the first female ambassador that China sent to South America.
