The following is the list of urban local bodies in the state of Gujarat, India . In India, there are various types of urban local bodies such as Municipal Corporation, Municipality, Notified Area Committee, Town Area Committee, Special Purpose Agency, Township, Port Trust, Cantonment Board etc. [1] [2] [3]
Gujarat is the fifth most urbanized state in India, with 43.9% of its population living in urban areas as of the 2011 census, which is higher than the national average of 31.16%. The urban population in Gujarat has been growing rapidly and was estimated to be around 23 million in 2020. Gujarat has 247 Statutory Towns and 118 Census Towns, according to the 2011 census.
Gujarat has several rapidly growing urban centers, including Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, and Gandhinagar. Ahmedabad, the largest city in the state, is a major industrial and commercial hub, and home to several prestigious educational institutions. Surat is known for its diamond industry and is a major center for textile manufacturing, while Vadodara is a hub for the petrochemical industry. Rajkot is known for its engineering and auto parts industries, while Gandhinagar, the state capital, is a planned city that houses the administrative headquarters of the state government.

There are 17 Corporations in Gujarat. [4] During the Budget session of 2024-25 the State's Finance Minister announced 9 new Municipal Corporations in the state. The status of Municipal Corporation has been granted by the Government of Gujarat from 1 January 2025.

Gujarat is a state along the western coast of India. Its coastline of about 1,600 km (990 mi) is the longest in the country, most of which lies on the Kathiawar peninsula. Gujarat is the fifth-largest Indian state by area, covering some 196,024 km2 (75,685 sq mi); and the ninth-most populous state, with a population of 60.4 million in 2011. Porbandar is a city and the headquarters of Porbandar district in the Indian state of Gujarat. It is the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi and Sudama. Rajkot was the capital of the Saurashtra State from 15 April 1948 to 31 October 1956, before its merger with Bombay State on 1 November 1956. Rajkot was reincorporated into Gujarat State on 1 May 1960.

Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Limited (GMRC) is a joint venture company between the Government of India and Government of Gujarat. It was established on February 4, 2010, with an initial investment of ₹202 crore (approximately US$25 million). The company is headquartered in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India.
Local elections were held in the Indian state of Gujarat in 2021. Elections were held for 8,235 seats, with 237 seats having only one unopposed candidates. No form was filled for two seats in Taluka panchayat. The elections included six municipal corporations where elections took place in February — Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Bhavnagar and Jamnagar – and one (Gandhinagar) in which the elections were held on 3 October. Results to Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation were declared on 5 October 2021.
