Pelechuco Municipality is the second municipal section of the Franz Tamayo Province in the La Paz Department, Bolivia. IN 2001 it had apopulation of 5,115. Its seat is Pelechuco.

Contents

The municipality is bordered to the north by the Apolo Municipality, to the east by the Apolo and Curva Municipalities, to the south by the Curva and Charazani Municipalities and to the west by Peru.

Geography

The Apolobamba mountain range traverses the municipality. The highest mountain of the municipality is Chawpi Urqu (Wisk'achani) at 6,044 m (19,829 ft). Other mountains are listed below: [1] [2]

Cololo Lake

Its surface area is 5.2 km².

Chuxña Quta (Curva)

Janqu Qala Lake

Janq'u Qala is a lake on the western side of the Apolobamba mountain range of Bolivia situated in the La Paz Department, Bautista Saavedra Province, Curva Municipality. It lies about 4,489 metres (14,728 ft) above sea level. The lake is about 3.25 km long and 0.47 km at its widest point.

Ulla Qhaya

Ulla Qhaya, Jila Khayo, Huelancalloc, Huellancalloc or Pupuya is a 5,617-metre-high (18,428 ft) mountain in the Apolobamba mountain range in Bolivia. It is situated in the La Paz Department at the border of the Bautista Saavedra Province, Curva Municipality, and the Franz Tamayo Province, Pelechuco Municipality. Ulla Qhaya lies east of the lake Ch'uxña Quta and north-west of the mountain Iskillani.

Kiski Quta

K'iski Quta is a lake in the Apolobamba mountain range in the Andes of Bolivia. It is situated in the La Paz Department, Franz Tamayo Province, Pelechuco Municipality. K'iski Quta lies northwest of the mountain Jach'a Waracha.

Chawpi Urqu (Bolivia)

Chawpi Urqu is a 4,617-metre-high (15,148 ft) mountain in the Apolobamba mountain range in Bolivia. It is located in the La Paz Department, Franz Tamayo Province, Pelechuco Municipality, near the Peruvian border. Chawpi Urqu lies east of the mountains Surapata and Kulli Pata and north of Q'umir Pata.

Punta Yavre

Punta Yavre or Punta Yayre is a mountain in the northeast of the Apolobamba mountain range on the border of Bolivia and Peru. It is about 4,600 metres (15,092 ft) high. On the Bolivian side it is located in the La Paz Department, Franz Tamayo Province, Pelechuco Municipality, and on the Peruvian side it lies in the Puno Region, Putina Province, Sina District. Punta Yavre is situated northwest and northeast of the mountains Chawpi Urqu and Kulli Pata.

Yawa Yawa

Yawa Yawa is a mountain northeast of the Apolobamba mountain range at the border of Bolivia and Peru. It is about 4,600 metres (15,092 ft) high. On the Bolivian side it is located in the La Paz Department, Franz Tamayo Province, Pelechuco Municipality, and on the Peruvian side it lies in the Puno Region, Putina Province, Sina District. Yawa Yawa is situated south of the mountain Ch'amakani and northeast of Punta Yawri. Yawa Yawa is also the name of a little lake near the mountain.

Wankuchiri

Wank'uchiri is a 5,382-metre-high (17,657 ft) mountain in the Apolobamba mountain range in the Andes of Bolivia. It is located in the La Paz Department, Franz Tamayo Province, Pelechuco Municipality, near the Peruvian border. Wank'uchiri is situated southwest of the mountain Chuquyu, northwest of K'iski Quta and southeast of Palumani and Such'i Lake. A little lake named Saywa Quta (Saihuacota) lies at its feet, south of it.

Palomani

Palomani is a mountain in the Apolobamba mountain range on the border of Bolivia and Peru. It reaches a height of about 5,723 metres (18,776 ft). On the Bolivian side it is located in the La Paz Department, Franz Tamayo Province, Pelechuco Municipality, and on the Peruvian side it lies in the Puno Region, Putina Province, Ananea District. It is situated north of Suches Lake. Palomani is south of Chaupi Orco, Salluyu and Jichu Qullu, near Chocñacota in the west.

Sorapata

Sorapata is a mountain in the north of the Apolobamba mountain range on the border of Bolivia and Peru. It is about 6,000 metres (19,685 ft) high. On the Bolivian side it is located in the La Paz Department, Franz Tamayo Province, Pelechuco Municipality, and on the Peruvian side it lies in the Puno Region, Putina Province, Sina District. Sorapata is situated between Locopauchenta and Cunuyo in the north and Chaupi Orco in the south. The lake Japucocha lies southwest of it.

Ichocollo (Bolivia-Peru)

Ichocollo or Ichucollo is a mountain in the Apolobamba mountain range at the border of Bolivia and Peru, about 5,423 metres (17,792 ft) high. According to the Bolivian IGM (Instituto Geográfico Militar) map and a map edited by the Peruvian Ministry of Education it is located in the La Paz Department, Franz Tamayo Province, Pelechuco Municipality, near 14°41′57″S69°14′55″W. According to reports of mountaineers, however, its position is more to the west on the Peruvian border of the Puno Region, Putina Province, Ananea District, near 14°41′30″S69°15′30″W. This information is based on a DAV (Deutscher Alpenverein) map of 1957.
