Vinayagar Agaval is a devotional poetic hymn to the Hindu deity Ganesha. It was written in the 10th century during the Chola dynasty by the Tamil poet Avvaiyar, shortly before her death. [1] It is considered to be her greatest poem. [2] The 72-line 'Agaval' is a form of blank verse, close to speech.
Vinayagar Agaval defines a religious path, part of the Tamil devotional tradition of Bhakti, within the Hindu philosophy of the Shaivite sect. Its application as a spiritual tool begins during concentration on a physical image of Ganesha and continues with the use of the Agaval's description of Hindu spiritual belief and practice, and aspects of the teachings on human life attributed to the deity.

Cool, white and fragrant lotus like feet,
with anklets tinkling sweet in multitude beat,
gold girdle, garments as soft as flower,
colorfully wrapping your comely hips lower,
belly like a pot and big, heavy tusk,
elephant-face with the perfect red mark,
five hands, the goad, the noose in hands apart,
dwelling divine beautiful blue body in my heart,
With pendulous mouth and one with four mighty shoulder,
having three eyes that denotes three sect marks bolder,
two ears, the gold crown gleaming on your head,
the breast glowing with the holy triple thread.
Oh divine turya knowledge, Beautiful beyond word,
who came as wish-fulfilling elephant, we heard.
Oh mouse-rider, fond of the three famed fruit,
desire to make me yours this instant, takes root,
Having appeared before me, like a mother,
Cutting delusion of unending births, not another.

You have come and entered my heart, dearly.
Stepped in the form of a teacher, into my world,
Thine divine feet, pointing to the priceless, gold,
With the divine knowledge without fatigue, blessed,
With that unfailing weapon, my heinous sins, severed.
Uncloying pure precepts, poured in my ear,
clarity of ever-fresh awareness, laid bare -
for firm control of all of my senses, five,
out of kindness, thou have blessed me high.
Brought the idea of the organs of action, controlled,
snapped my two-fold karma and my darkness dispelled,
a place for me in all four states, your grant,
dissolved the illusion of triple filth,
Using a single name over the temple with nine-door,
five-door senses now under control, free no more,
fixed me firm in all of the six yogic center,
Stabilized in myself, speechless joy, I enter.

last the head of sushumna, to me, you showed,
three bright spheres of sun, moon and fire,
To the tongue of the serpent that sinks and soar.
Having achieved the energy of Kundali assemblage,
and explicitly uttered it purely through your grace;
flame of muladhara, collected in me and raging,
imparted the skill of breath, steadily rising.
The state of immortality, the sun's moving trend
and the charm of the moon; the water lily's friend,
the sixteen states of the chakras intermediary,
revealed to me in thoughtful wisdom in my body.
the six-faced form and four-faced body subtle,
and the eight separate modes of my eternal soul;
Given me understanding of subtle body that is divine,
Miraculous powers, my mind is open to your design.
the never-closing gateway of Brahman opened so,
You have also given me the final mukti, too;
revealed my Self to me and by your grace
My accumulated karma, swept of the base.
State beyond speech and thought, in tranquil calm
You clarified my intellect, this is now my form.
making me experience, at the spot between two eyes,
through your divine blessing, between my ears, bliss.
You have given me the state of boundless elation,
showing me the way of grace, ending all affliction,
As the core of the sound Om, I have seen Sadasiva,
At the core of my mind, you have shown me lingasiva.
atom within atom, vast beyond all vastness,
hid in the hardened node, having tasted sweetness.
You have steadied me clear in human form, devoid of duality,
added me to the congregation of your servants true and trusty.

Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Vinayak Chaturthi or Ganeshotsav, is a Hindu festival commemorating the birth of the Hindu god Ganesha. The festival is marked with the installation of Ganesha's clay idols privately in homes and publicly on elaborate pandals. Observances include chanting of Vedic hymns and Hindu texts, such as prayers and vrata (fasting). Offerings and prasada from the daily prayers, that are distributed from the pandal to the community, include sweets such as modak as it is believed to be a favourite of Ganesha. The festival ends on the tenth day after start, when the idol is carried in a public procession with music and group chanting, then immersed in a nearby body of water such as a river or sea, called visarjan on the day of Ananta Chaturdashi. In Mumbai alone, around 150,000 statues are immersed annually. Thereafter the clay idol dissolves and Ganesha is believed to return to his celestial abode.
Tripura Sundari, also known as Rajarajeshvari, Shodashi, Kamakshi, and Lalita is a Hindu goddess, revered primarily within the Shaktism tradition and recognized as one of the ten Mahavidyas. She embodies the essence of the supreme goddess Mahadevi. Central to the Shakta texts, she is widely praised in the Lalita Sahasranama and Saundarya Lahari. In the Lalitopakhyana of the Brahmanda Purana, she is referred to as Adi Parashakti.
Thiruvasagam is a volume of Tamil hymns composed by the ninth century Shaivite bhakti poet Manikkavasagar. It contains 51 compositions and constitutes the eighth volume of the Tirumurai, the sacred anthology of the Tamil Shaiva Siddhanta.
Avvaiyar is a 1953 Indian Tamil-language historical drama film directed by Kothamangalam Subbu, and produced by S. S. Vasan. The film stars K. B. Sundarambal as the title character. It was released on 15 August 1953.
Arulmigu Murugan Temple, Thiruparankundram is a Hindu temple dedicated to the god Murugan at Thiruparankundram, Tamilnadu, India. It is regarded as one of the "six Abodes of Murugan". The temple is built in rock-cut architecture and believed to have been built by the Pandyas during the 6th century. According to the legend. it is where Murugan slayed the demon Surapadman and married Devasena also known as Deivayanai, the daughter of the king of heavens, Indra. Also, Murugan is said to have worshipped his father Shiva here as Parangirinathar.
There are many anecdotes of Ganesha. Ganesha's elephant head makes him easy to identify. He is worshipped as the lord of beginnings and as the lord of removing obstacles, the patron of arts and sciences, and the god of intellect and wisdom. In his survey of Ganesha's rise to prominence in Sanskrit literature, Ludo Rocher notes that:
Above all, one cannot help being struck by the fact that the numerous stories surrounding Gaṇeśa concentrate on an unexpectedly limited number of incidents. These incidents are mainly three: his birth and parenthood, his elephant head, and his single tusk. Other incidents are touched on in the texts, but to a far lesser extent.

Abirami Antati is a Tamil collection of poems sung on goddess Abirami, a deity venerated in Thirukkadaiyur Amirtaghatesvarar Sivan Temple, situated in Tamil Nadu, India. This poetry was composed by Abirami Bhattar who lived during the 18th century CE, a contemporary to Serfoji I of Tanjore.
Sri Sithi Vinayagar Temple is a Hindu temple located along Jalan Selangor in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia. It is also generally referred to as the PJ Pillaiyar Temple. The resident deity is Ganesha in the form of Sri Sithi Vinayagar. The temple is said to be the largest temple in Malaysia dedicated to Lord Ganesha.
Manakula Vinayagar Temple is a Hindu temple in the Union Territory of Puducherry, India. Dedicated to the god Ganesa, it is a popular pilgrimage site and tourist destination in Puducherry. The temple is of considerable antiquity and predates French occupation of the territory. During the tenure of Dupleix, there were attempts to destroy the temple, but it was spared owing to strong protests from the Hindu population and the threat of British and Maratha invasion of the territory.
Kandaswami Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Murugan, located in the Parry's corner neighbourhood of Chennai city, in Tamil Nadu, India. It is also called 'Mutthu Kumāra Swāmi deva sthānam' and popularly known as Kandha kottam. It is managed by the Tamil Nadu Hindu religious and charitable endowments department of the government of Tamil Nadu. The Kandha kottam temple has associated educational institutions for music and dance classes; primary and high schools; and a college, in various locations. The Kandha kottam temple also performs social welfare initiatives like free medical clinics and free pharmacies.
Vinayaki (Vināyakī) is an elephant-headed Hindu goddess. Her mythology and iconography are not clearly defined. Little is told about her in Hindu scriptures and very few images of this deity exist.

The Sarasvati-rahasya Upanishad, meaning “the Secret Knowledge of the Wisdom Goddess”, is a late medieval era Sanskrit text and one of the minor Upanishads of Hinduism. The text is classified as one of the eight Shakta Upanishads and embedded in the Krishna Yajurveda.
Tiruvalluva Malai is an anthology of ancient Tamil paeans containing fifty-five verses each attributed to different poets praising the ancient work of the Kural and its author Tiruvalluvar. With the poets' time spanning across centuries starting from around 1st century CE, the collection is believed to have reached its present form by 10th century CE. With the historical details of the ancient philosopher and his work remaining obscure, much of the legend on the Kural and Tiruvalluvar as they are known today are chiefly from this work. The collection also reveals the name of the author of the Kural text as 'Tiruvalluvar' for the first time, as Tiruvalluvar himself composed the Kural text centuries earlier without indicating his name anywhere in his work. Reminiscing this, E. S. Ariel, a French scholar of the 19th century, famously said of the Tirukkural thus: Ce livre sans nom, par un autre sans nom.
Kapardeeswarar temple is a Hindu temple situated in the village of Thiruvalanchuzhi near Swamimalai in Kumbakonam taluk of Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu, India. Shiva is worshiped as Kapardeeswarar and is represented by the lingam and his consort Parvati is depicted as Brihannayagi. The presiding deity is revered in the 7th century Tamil Saiva canonical work, the Tevaram, written by Tamil poet saints known as the nayanars and classified as Paadal Petra Sthalam.
Avvaiyar was a Tamil poet who lived during the period of Kambar and Ottakoothar during the reign of the Chola dynasty in the twelfth century. She is often imagined as an old and intelligent lady by Tamil people. Many poems and the Avvai Kural, comprising 310 kurals in 31 chapters, belong to this period. She is most widely known for her 'Aathichoodi', 'Kondrai Vendhan', 'Nalvazhi' and 'Moodhurai'. The name Avvaiyar means a 'respectable good woman', hence a generic title; her personal name is not known.
