Wajir North Constituency

Wajir North Constituency is an electoral constituency in Kenya. It is one of six constituencies in Wajir County. The constituency has seven wards, all electing councillors to the Wajir County Council. The constituency was established for the 1997 elections.

In the 2007 elections two candidates (Ali Ibrahim of KANU and Mohammed Gabow of ODM) received the same number of votes and no winner could be declared. Consequently, a repeat election was held in 2008 between the two candidates. [1]

Kipkalya Kiprono Kones was a Kenyan politician who served as a minister during the 1990s and was briefly Minister of Roads in 2008. He was a member of the National Assembly of Kenya from 1988 to 2008.

Hassan Ali Joho is a Kenyan politician and the former Governor of Mombasa County affiliated with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). He was also elected to represent the Kisauni Constituency in the National Assembly of Kenya during the 2007 Kenyan parliamentary election. On 4 March 2013, during the general election, Joho was elected as the first governor of Mombasa County. In the 2017 General Elections held on 8 August, Joho retained his seat on an ODM ticket. Despite significant politically engineered setbacks, Joho emerged triumphant by winning with 220 576 votes against his closest rival Suleiman Shahbal with 69 322 votes, Suleiman was a member of the Jubilee Party. Joho served as governor of Mombasa until 2022, when he completed the constitunionally allowed two five-year terms. He was succeeded by Abdulswammad Sherrif Nassir the former member of the National Assembly for Mvita Constituency.

Aden Keynan Wehliye is a Member of the National Assembly of Kenya. He served Wajir West constituency from 1997 to 2002 and 2007 to 2013. He then moved to Eldas constituency which was carved from Wajir West. Keynan served as the MP of Eldas in the 11th and 12th parliaments. He represented the Orange Democratic Movement until 2017 when he switched to the Jubilee Party. Keynan was re-elected on the Jubilee ticket in the 2022 elections. He is the longest-serving MP of the 13th Parliament of Kenya.

Belgut is an electoral constituency in Kenya. It is one of six constituencies of Kericho County. The constituency was established for the 1963 elections. A new Constituency Sigowet-Soin was curved out of this Constituency in 2013 after the promulgation of the new constitution (2010).

Kilgoris Constituency is an electoral constituency in Narok County, Kenya. It is one of six constituencies in the county. It used to be the only constituency in the former Trans Mara District. Wajir South Constituency is a electoral constituency in Kenya. Wajir South is one of the six constituencies in Wajir County and one of the largest in Kenya. It is also one of the most neglected, underdeveloped, and unchanged constituencies in Kenya since its creation. The constituency IEBC data shows Wajir South land mass is about 21,424 sq km, hence larger than Central (11,449), Nairobi (696) and Western (7,400) regions combined. The constituency has seven wards Burder, Dadajabula, Ibrahim ure, Diif, Lagboqol south, Habaswein, and Banane ward, all electing Members of County Assembly(MCA) to the Wajir County Assembly. On 27th September 2023, leaders from Wajir South Constituency led by area Mp Mr. Mohamed Adow submitted a memorundum proposing the creation of Wajir South County to the National Dialogue Committee at the Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi. This was sparked by the inequitable distribution of Wajir County resources and allocation of county jobs with Wajir South getting a paltry 5.33% and 4.19% respectively despite accounting 40% of Wajir County.

Ibrahim Abdi Saney is the current Member of Parliament for Wajir North Constituency. He won the general election of March 2013, slightly defeating his opponent Dr. Abdullahi of KANU. He was born and brought up In Korondille town of Buna District, Wajir County.

Amb. Mohamed Abdi Affey is a Kenyan politician who is currently serving as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa and former UNHCR Special Envoy to the Somalia Refugee situation. Before joining UNHCR, Ambassador Affey was the IGAD'S Special Envoy to Somalia and a former member of Parliament for Wajir South Constituency (1997-2002). He also served as nominated member of parliament (2008-2013) for ODM-Kenya, Kenyan Ambassador to Somalia (2003-2007) and Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kenya (1997-2002).

Kasipul is a constituency in Kenya. It is one of eight constituencies in Homa Bay County. Kasipul constituency was established from the 2010 constitution with the code number 245 from Kasipul kabondo constituency and Kabondo constituency formed the other half. The home town for the residents is Oyugis which is one of the Municipalities in Homabay County.

Fatuma Gedi is a Kenyan politician from Wajir town. A former member of the National Assembly from Wajir county. The former Women representative for Wajir county. In 2017 she won the seat through Party for development and reform, under the reign of the fourth president of the Republic of Kenya, Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta.
