Karachuonyo Constituency

Karachuonyo Constituency is an electoral constituency in Kenya. It is one of eight constituencies in Homa Bay County. The current member of parliament is Hon. Andrew Adipo Okuome. Karachuonyo constituency is in history for having its first Member of parliament to be elected as an independent candidate in 1963, Hon. Elijah Omollo Agar. The mysterious Lake Simbi Nyaima which is believed to have healing powers is also found in Karachuonyo. Simbi Nyaima is an amazing small volcanic lake well known for its ancient origins and its undiscovered prehistoric sites that makes it a Kenya safari tourist destination of the worldwide interests. The constituency was established for the 1988 elections. Formally known as Marsabit South, it was represented by Hon. Phillip Kurungu in the 1966 elections. From 1969-1988 Laisamis Constituency was represented by Hon. Haji Kholkhale Adichareh. Hon. Adichareh was a Lancaster House Conference delegate and was a fierce defender of Rendille land. He served 7 years at Shimo La Tewa prison on trumped up charges and emerge to lead his Rendille community for 20 years in parliament.

Peter Adhu Awiti was a Kenyan politician who served as a member of the National Assembly for Karachuonyo Constituency from 1997 until 2007. He also served in former President Daniel arap Moi's final government cabinet as Minister for Planning from 2001 until 2002.

Elijah Omolo Agar was the first member of parliament for Karachuonyo Constituency after Kenya got independence from Britain. He was elected on an independent ticket in the first elections beating Gogo Ochok of Kenya African National Union (KANU).

Samuel Arama is a Kenyan politician who has served as a member of the National Assembly for the Nakuru Town West constituency since 2013. He is a member of the Jubilee Party, having previously represented the Orange Democratic Movement.
