Nairobi is the capital and largest city of Kenya. The name is derived from the Maasai phrase Enkare Nairobi, which translates to 'place of cool waters', a reference to the Nairobi River which flows through the city. The city proper had a population of 4,397,073 in the 2019 census. The city is commonly referred to as The Green City in the Sun.
Kibera is a division and neighbourhood of Nairobi, Kenya, 6.6 kilometres (4.1 mi) from the city centre. Kibera is the largest slum in Nairobi, and the largest urban slum in Africa. The 2009 Kenya Population and Housing Census reports Kibera's population as 170,070, contrary to previous estimates of one or two million people. Other sources suggest the total Kibera population may be 500,000 to well over 1,000,000 depending on which slums are included in defining Kibera.
Karen is a suburb of Nairobi in Kenya, lying south-west of Nairobi's central business district. The suburb of Karen borders the Ngong Forest and is home to the Ngong Racecourse. Karen and Langata previously formed a somewhat isolated area of mid to high-income residents, but the two suburbs have become increasingly interconnected and linked to the rest of Nairobi through the expansion of the eponymous Langata Road and Ngong Road, the latter project completed in 2021.
Lang'ata is a predominantly middle-class residential suburb of Nairobi in Kenya. The suburb consists of many smaller housing developments, referred to as estates. They include Nairobi Dam, Otiende, Southlands, Ngei, Jambo estate, Onyonka, Madaraka Estate, Kutch Prant, Rubia, NHC Langata, Akiba, Sun Valley, Royal Park and many others. These developments are primarily maisonettes or apartment blocks.
Toi Market is an open-air retail market located on the outskirts of the Kibera slum in Nairobi, Kenya. The market sits on a three-acre plot on Suna Road, a by-street to Ngong Road which runs almost the length of Nairobi, from the Lang'ata area into the center of the city.
Dagoretti Constituency was an electoral constituency in Kenya. It is one of eight constituencies of Nairobi. It was located to the west of Nairobi. It consisted of the western suburbs of Nairobi. Dagoretti constituency had common boundaries with Dagoretti Division of Nairobi. The entire constituency was located within Nairobi City Council area. The constituency had an area of 39 km2. The constituency boundaries were altered prior to the 1997 elections to include Kenyatta/Golf Course ward from Lang'ata, and moved Kangemi to Westlands. Kamukunji Constituency is an electoral constituency in Kenya, one of the seventeen constituencies of Nairobi County. It encompases of central to eastern areas of Nairobi. Kamukunji constituency had common boundaries with Pumwani Division. The entire constituency is located within Nairobi City County area. The constituency has an area of 8.80 km2 (3.4 sq mi). The constituency was originally what was known as Nairobi Central Constituency at the 1963 elections. The current constituency boundaries were revised prior to the 2013 elections. It borders Starehe Constituency to the west, Makadara to the south, Embakasi West Constituency to the east, and Mathare Constituency to the north.
Kasarani Constituency is an electoral constituency in Nairobi. It is one of seventeen constituencies of Nairobi City County. The entire constituency is located within Nairobi City County, and has an area of 152.60 km2 (58.9 sq mi), making it the second-largest constituency in Nairobi after Lang'ata. It borders Ruaraka, Embakasi Central, Embakasi North, Embakasi East, Roysambu constituencies to the west; Ruiru constituency to the north; Matungulu constituency to the east and Mavoko constituency to the south-east.
Makadara Constituency is an electoral constituency in Nairobi City County, Kenya. It is one of the seventeen constituencies in the county. It was renamed prior to the 1997 elections, but was also known as Nairobi Doonholm Constituency for the 1963 elections, then as Bahati Constituency from 1966 to 1997. It consists of some central and southern of central areas of Nairobi County. The entire constituency is located within Nairobi City County, and has an area of 13 km2. The current constituency boundaries were revised prior to the 2013 elections. It has a population of 189,536 people from the 2019 census report.
Westlands is an electoral constituency in Kenya. It is one of the seventeen constituencies in Nairobi County. The constituency is situated within Westlands Sub-county, formerly Westlands District. The entire constituency is located within Nairobi City County. The constituency has an area of 72.4 km2 (28.0 sq mi). It was known as Nairobi Northwest Constituency at the 1963 elections, then as Parklands Constituency and since 1988 elections it has been known as Westlands Constituency.
Starehe is an electoral constituency in Kenya. It is one of seventeen constituencies in Nairobi City County. It consists of central and central to north areas of Nairobi. The constituency was established for the 1966 elections, with an area of 20 km2 (7.7 sq mi). It borders Westlands Constituency to the north; Mathare Constituency to the northeast; Kamukunji and Makadara constituencies to the east; Embakasi South Constituency to the south; Dagoretti North, Kibra and Lang'ata constituencies to the west.
Mellitus Mugabe Were was a Kenyan politician affiliated to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). He was elected to the National Assembly of Kenya to represent Embakasi Constituency in the parliamentary election held on 27 December 2007. He was killed outside his house in the Nairobi suburb of Woodley, adjacent to the Kibera slum.
Mashimoni is a part of Kibera slum in Nairobi. Mashimoni Primary School, Facing the Future School, Mashimoni Good Samaritan School for the Orphans (MAGOSO) and Mashimoni Squatters Schools exist. Many of its residents are Luhyas and Kambas. It is part of Langata Constituency. Other parts of Kibera include Laini Saba, Lindi, Makina, Kianda, Gatwekera, Soweto East, Kisumu Ndogo and Siranga.

Nairobi City County is one of the 47 counties of Kenya. With an estimated population of 5,454,000 in 2024, it is the third-smallest in area of the counties, yet the most populous one. It also serves as the capital of Kenya. The county entity was effected in 2013, replacing Nairobi City Council, which had been the long-standing unit of local administration since before Kenya's independence. The city county consists of eleven gazetted sub-counties and eighty-five electoral wards. On the national level, Nairobi also sends seventeen Members of Parliament across the constituencies and one County Woman Representative to the National Assembly; and one senator to the Senate. The county government, which is allotted devolved functions as stated in the Constitution of Kenya, is headed by the county governor, who appoints his cabinet. The county's legislature is headed by the County Speaker, who presides over the County Assembly. The Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) are elected from single-member districts and represent their respective electoral wards. Additional MCAs are also nominated by political parties as a form of affirmative action.

Kibra Constituency is an electoral constituency in Nairobi, one of 17 constituencies in the county, and has an area of 12.1 km2. It is located to the southwest of the City of Nairobi, and includes most of the Kibera slum and adjoining estates. The constituency was created prior to the 2013 general election.
Phelix Odiwuor Khodhe, more popularly known as Jalang'o / Jalas or Heavy J Baba is a Kenyan Politician- Current member of parliament for Langata Constituency which he won on an Orange Democratic Movement ( ODM) Party ticket against his predecessor Hon.Nixon Kiprotich Korir. Prior to his political ambitions, Jalas was also a radio presenter, comedian, actor, events master of ceremonies (MC), talk show host and philanthropist celebrity in Kenya.
Njiru is a neighbourhood in the city of Nairobi. Located within the larger Eastlands area of Nairobi, it is approximately 13 kilometres (8.1 mi) east of the central business district.
Nyayo Highrise is a residential neighbourhood in the city of Nairobi. It is approximately 3.5 kilometres (2.2 mi) southwest of the central business district of Nairobi. Initially a slum upgrading project, the estate was built in an effort by the national government to provide its citizens with affordable housing.
