Mathira Constituency

Mathira Constituency is an electoral constituency in Kenya. It is one of six constituencies in Nyeri County [1] . The constituency was established for the 1963 elections. Mathira is popularly known as Mathira ya Githomo (education) as it has the most educated population in the country. It sits at the foot of Mount Kenya, and this gives it a climate that is suitable for growing tea and coffee. Karatina is to the east. Several tarmac roads crisscross Mathira, including the Kenol-Marua superhighway.

Education institutions include Karatina University, Tumutumu Girls High School, Kanjuri High School, Karatina Girls, Karatina Special School for the Mentally Handicapped, and Bishop Gatimu Ngandu Girls High School. Health facilities include Karatina Hospital, Jamii Hospital, PCEA Tumutumu Hospital and many dispensaries.

Kagochi Tea Factory is the largest private employer and Mountain Lodge leads in tourism.

Nyeri is a town situated in the Central Highlands of Kenya. It is the county headquarters of Nyeri County and was the central administrative headquarters of the country's former Central Province. Nyandarua County is a county in the former Central Province of Kenya, with its capital and largest town being Ol Kalou. Formerly, the capital was Nyahururu, which is now part of Laikipia County. Nyandarua County had a population of 596,268 in 2009 and 638,289 in 2019 and covers an area of 3,304 km2. The county is located on the northwestern part of the old Central Province, and contains the Aberdare Ranges.

Tetu Constituency is an electoral constituency in Kenya. It was established in 1988 and is one of the six constituencies in Nyeri County.

Bishop Gatimu Ngandu Girls High School, popularly known as BG or BeeGee, was founded in 1960 by Bishop Caesar Gatimu in Ngandu area of Mathira Constituency in Nyeri County, Kenya. It was first named "Ngandu Girls' High School" for the area where it was situated. The name was later changed to honour its founder, The Right Reverend Caesar Gatimu. It was originally run by the Comboni mission. Sister Sr Alexandrina was the first Principal then Sister Nazarena Zonta and her deputy, SisterSr Lucilla. Sbicego ran the school until 1983. Lay headmistresses, now principals in the employment of the Teachers Service Commission have headed the school since. The First Native Principal was Ms. Helen Wathuti Waweru-Hsc who served as Principal from 1983-2006,

The immediate past Principal is Ms Virginia Wahome, who was promoted to The Kenya High School in January 2023., the current Principal is Ms.Jane Kimiti from 2023. 

Nyeri High School, also known as Nyeri High, is a boys boarding school situated in Nyeri, Kenya near Mathari Consolata Mission Hospital, which provides secondary education as stipulated by the 8-4-4 Curriculum. Despite being acknowledged as an academic giant in the region, the school has also developed a notoriety for student unrest culminating in the death of four school prefects in a fire caused by student arson and followed a few years later by a student strike that led to an official government inquiry into the running of the school.

Mukurweini Constituency is an electoral constituency in Kenya, being one of six constituencies in Nyeri County. Mukurweini Constituency comprises Mukurweini division of Nyeri County, which is administratively divided into four wards; Mukurwe-ini Central, Mukurwe-ini West, Rugi and Gikondi wards. It has approximate population of 110,000. The current Member of Parliament is Hon. John Kaguchia P.G. Mukurwe-ini residents are mainly farmers; coffee and dairy farming is the main agricultural activity carried out. The area does not experience extreme weather conditions and has several scenic features. Wajee Nature Park, a bird conservancy, located in Rugi ward, Giathugu Sublocation is a bird watchers paradise where rare birds are found. Uriri is an electoral constituency in Kenya. It is one of eight constituencies of Migori County. There are five wards in the constituency, all electing councillors to the Migori County council. The constituency was established for the 1997 elections. Its mainly inhabited by two ethnic tribes namely Luo and the Abaluhya, who live harmoniously, with kiswahili being the major language in this sub county region.
