Eldoret East Constituency was a former electoral constituency in Kenya. It was one of three constituencies in the former Uasin Gishu District, now Uasin Gishu County. The constituency was established for the 1988 elections.

Eldoret Town in Uasin Gishu County, Kenya

Eldoret is a principal city in the Rift Valley region of Kenya and the fifth largest in the country. It also serves as the capital of Uasin Gishu County. Lying south of the Cherangani Hills, the local elevation varies from about 2100 metres at the airport to more than 2700 metres in nearby areas (7000–9000 feet). The population was 289,380 in the 2009 census, and it is currently the fastest growing town in Kenya with over 400,000 inhabitants in 2019.

The Elgeyo are an ethnic group that is part the larger Kalenjin ethnic group of Nilotic origin. They live near Eldoret, Kenya in the highlands of the former Keiyo District now part of the larger Elgeyo Marakwet County. The Elgeyo together with Kipsigis, Marakwet, Pokot, Sabaot, Tugen and Nandi are in some literature referred to as Highland Nilotes. The Elgeyo like other Highland Nilotes, subsist mainly on grain, milk, blood and meat provided by their cattle, sheep and goats.

Kaptagat is a village near 25 kilometres east of Eldoret along the B54 Road in the former Rift Valley Province, Kenya. It is located near the edge of the Great Rift Valley just to the southeast of the village of Chepkorio. Administratively, it is a location in Ainabkoi division of Uasin Gishu County. Its local authority is Wareng County Council and constituency is Ainabkoi Constituency. Although geographically, Kaptagat lies both in the Uasin Gishu and Elgeyo-Marakwet Countys. One of the nearest towns is Kimwarer, located 10 kilometers east of Kapatagat.

University of Eldoret

University of Eldoret is one of the 22 public universities in Kenya and situated approximately 9 km along the Eldoret-Ziwa road in Eldoret town, Uasin Gishu County. It was founded in 1946 by the white settlers as a Large Scale Farmers Training Centre. In 1984, it was converted to a teachers’ training college and renamed Moi Teachers’ Training College to offer Diploma Science Teachers Training. Due to the double intake crisis, the College was taken over by Moi University as a Campus in 1990, renaming it Chepkoilel Campus. From 1990, the University made it a campus of Natural, Basic and Applied Science programmes.
