Elk Grove Village is a village in Cook and DuPage counties in the U.S. state of Illinois. Per the 2020 census, the population was 32,812. Located 20 miles (32 km) northwest of Chicago along the Golden Corridor, the Village of Elk Grove Village was incorporated on July 17, 1956. It is directly adjacent to O'Hare International Airport and is economically important to the Chicago metropolitan area due to its large industrial park, located on the eastern border of the village. The community is served by several Interstate highways including I-90, I-290/I-355/Route 53, and IL-390. Elk Grove is also expected to be served by the I-490 Western O'Hare Bypass upon completion of the project.

It is bounded by the city of Evanston along Juneway Terrace and Howard Street to the north, Ridge Boulevard to the west, Devon Avenue and the Edgewater neighborhood to the south, and Lake Michigan to the east. The neighborhood just to the west, West Ridge, was part of Rogers Park until the 1890s and is still commonly referred to as West Rogers Park.

Edgewater contains several beaches that residents enjoy during the late spring, summer, and early autumn. Chicago's largest park, Lincoln Park, stretches south from Edgewater for seven miles along the waterfront, almost to downtown. Historically, Edgewater was the northeastern corner of Lake View Township, an independent suburb annexed by the city of Chicago in 1889. Today, the Uptown community is to Edgewater's south, Lincoln Square to its west, West Ridge to its northwest and Rogers Park to its north.

Named after US President Abraham Lincoln, it is the city's largest public park and stretches for seven miles (11 km) from Grand Avenue, on the south, to near Ardmore Avenue on the north, just north of the DuSable Lake Shore Drive terminus at Hollywood Avenue. Two museums and a zoo are located in the oldest part of the park between North Avenue and Diversey Parkway in the eponymous neighborhood. Further to the north, the park is characterized by parkland, beaches, recreational areas, nature reserves, and harbors. To the south, there is a more narrow strip of beaches east of Lake Shore Drive, almost to downtown. With 20 million visitors per year, Lincoln Park is the second-most-visited city park in the United States, behind Central Park.

Also historically called North Town, and frequently referred to as West Rogers Park, it is bordered on the north by Howard Street, on the east by Ridge Boulevard, Western Avenue, and Ravenswood Avenue, the south by Bryn Mawr Avenue and Peterson Avenue, and on the west by Kedzie Avenue and the North Shore channel of the Chicago River. At one time joined with neighboring Rogers Park, it seceded to become its own village in 1890 over a conflict concerning park districts. West Ridge was annexed to Chicago on April 4, 1893, along with Rogers Park.

Normal Park is the name of a former football and baseball field in Chicago, Illinois, during approximately 1914 through 1951. It was most notably the home field of the Chicago Cardinals before they moved to Comiskey Park.
St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church is a parish in the Archdiocese of Chicago located at 6955 N. Hiawatha Avenue in the Edgebrook neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. Established in 1952 when a group of Catholic women in the neighborhood began a door-to-door petitioning for a new parish in the aftermath of their children missing many school days at the far distance Queen of All Saints Basilica due to the inability of school buses to get through the snow. The petitions were submitted to Cardinal Samuel Stritch in March 1952, and by June, Father Daniel O'Rourke was appointed pastor of the, then unnamed, parish. A storefront on Touhy Avenue was the temporary location for Sunday Mass. The women of the parish's Altar & Rosary Society promptly set to work work raising money at card parties, bake sales and book fairs. By February 1953, the excavation had begun on the current site of the church and school.

Touhy Avenue is a major street throughout northern Chicago, Illinois as well as the north and northwestern suburbs of the city. It is named for Patrick L. Touhy, a subdivider who was also the son-in-law of Phillip Rogers, an early settler who helped develop Rogers Park. Points of interest along Touhy Avenue include Loyola Park, the Winston Towers, the Lincolnwood Town Center, Lincolnwood Produce & Grocery, Loeber Motors, Hebrew Theological College, Village Crossing Shopping Center, Pointe Plaza, the Shure Headquarters Building, the Leaning Tower YMCA, the Pickwick Theatre, the northern end of O'Hare International Airport, and the crash site of American Airlines Flight 191.
Phillip Rogers was a settler of Irish origin who migrated to the Chicago area from Watertown, New York in 1836. He built a cabin on Ridge Avenue and bought a tract of land in the unincorporated area now bounded by Touhy Ave., Western Ave., Ridge Ave., and Morse Ave. from the government for $1.25 an acre. He continued to accumulate land and eventually owned approximately 1,600 acres (6.5 km2), farming much of it.
