In this election, incumbent Republican Governor Ernie Fletcher ran for reelection to a second term, but was soundly defeated by Democratic challenger Steve Beshear. In Kentucky and Mississippi, the elections were held on November 3, and in Louisiana, as no candidate received a majority of votes at the primary election on October 24, 2015, a runoff election was held on November 21. The last regular gubernatorial elections for all three states were in 2011. Democrats won the open seat of term-limited Republican Bobby Jindal in Louisiana, while Republicans reelected incumbent Phil Bryant in Mississippi and picked up the seat of term-limited Democrat Steve Beshear in Kentucky.

Mike Harmon (politician) American politician

Mike Harmon is an American politician serving as the Kentucky auditor of public accounts. Harmon was previously a Republican member of the Kentucky House of Representatives for the 54th district. Harmon was a 2011 candidate for Lieutenant Governor of Kentucky. In 2015, Harmon was elected state Auditor, defeating Democratic incumbent Adam Edelen. He was the only Republican statewide candidate run unopposed in the primary. Harmon was elected to a second term as Auditor in 2019, defeating Democratic candidate Sheri Donahue, and Libertarian Kyle Hugenberg. He is running for Governor of Kentucky in the primary for the 2023 gubernatorial election.

2019 United States gubernatorial elections

United States gubernatorial elections were held on November 5, 2019, in Kentucky and Mississippi, and November 16, 2019, in Louisiana. These elections formed part of the 2019 United States elections. The last regular gubernatorial elections for all three states were in 2015. The Democrats had to defend an incumbent in Louisiana, while the Republicans had to defend an incumbent in Kentucky plus an open seat in Mississippi. Though all three seats up were in typically Republican states, the election cycle became unexpectedly competitive: Kentucky and Louisiana were seen as highly contested races; and Mississippi's race ultimately became closer than usual, despite being seen as favorable for the Republicans.

A general election was held in the U.S. state of Kentucky on November 5, 2019, with all executive offices in the state up for election. Primary elections were held on May 21, 2019.

2020 Kentucky Democratic presidential primary Democratic primary in Kentucky

The 2020 Kentucky Democratic presidential primary took place on Tuesday, June 23, 2020. The primary was originally planned to take place on Tuesday, May 19, 2020. However, on March 16, 2020, Governor Andy Beshear and Secretary of State Michael Adams announced that it would be postponed amid concerns about the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in the United States. The delay would have resulted in Kentucky losing half of its delegates, as the primary date is "past a June 9 deadline set by the Democratic National Committee", but there will be no penalty as the 2020 Democratic National Convention was delayed until August. The Kentucky primary is a closed primary, with the state awarding 60 delegates, of which 54 are pledged delegates allocated on the basis of the results of the primary.

2018 Kentucky elections

Kentucky state elections in 2018 were held on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, with the primary elections being held on May 22, 2018. These midterm elections occurred during the presidency of Republican Donald Trump and the governorship of Republican Matt Bevin, alongside other elections in the United States. All six of Kentucky's seats in the United States House of Representatives, nineteen of the 38 seats in the Kentucky State Senate, all 100 seats in the Kentucky House of Representatives, and one of the seven seats on the Kentucky Supreme Court were contested. Numerous county and local elections were also contested within the state.
