The Thomas Cup, sometimes referred as World Men's Team Championships, is an international badminton competition among teams representing member nations of the Badminton World Federation (BWF), the sport's global governing body. The championships have been conducted every two years since the 1982, amended from being conducted every three years since the first tournament held in 1948–1949.
The WTA rankings are the ratings defined by the Women's Tennis Association, introduced in November 1975. The computer that calculates the ranking is nicknamed "Medusa".
The PIF ATP Rankings are the merit-based method used by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) for determining the qualification for entry as well as the seeding of players in all singles and doubles tournaments. The first rankings for singles were published on 23 August 1973 while the doubles players were ranked for the first time on 1 March 1976. The BWF World Junior Ranking is the official ranking of the Badminton World Federation, introduced since January 2011. Players must be under 19 years of age to be eligible in the World Junior Rankings. Players will be removed from the World Junior Ranking once they have reached 19 years of age on 1 January. In doubles, players will be ranked as individuals and not as pairs.

The competition was announced on 19 March 2017 and came into effect starting from 2018, replacing the BWF Super Series, which was held from 2007 to 2017.

The 2018 BWF World Tour Finals was the final tournament of the 2018 BWF World Tour. It was held from 12 to 16 December 2018 in Guangzhou, China and had a total prize of $1,500,000.
Qualification for badminton at the 2020 Summer Paralympics begins on 1 January 2019 to 16 May 2021. There are 90 expected slots for the sport across fourteen medal events.

It had a total prize of $1,500,000.
