The CONMEBOL Men Pre-Olympic Tournament is an international association football event in the South America region, and is the qualification tournament for the football at the Olympic Games.

The South American Football Confederation is the continental governing body of football in South America and it is one of FIFA's six continental confederations. The oldest continental confederation in the world, its headquarters are located in Luque, Paraguay, near Asunción. CONMEBOL is responsible for the organization and governance of South American football's major international tournaments. With 10 member football associations, it has the fewest members of all the confederations in FIFA.

In 1960, the teams from North and Central America also entered the tournament. [1] Before 1984, only junior or non-professional players were allowed to participate. In 1987 the competition was open to any player who has not played in World Cup (whether a qualifying match or at the final tournament). [1] Since 1992 the competition is open to players under the age of 23 without any other restriction. [1] The competition was last held in 2004 and between 2007 and 2015, the South American Youth Championship were chosen as the qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games. [2]

FIFA World Cup association football competition for mens national teams

The FIFA World Cup, often simply called the World Cup, is an international association football competition contested by the senior men's national teams of the members of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the sport's global governing body. The championship has been awarded every four years since the inaugural tournament in 1930, except in 1942 and 1946 when it was not held because of the Second World War. The current champion is France, which won its second title at the 2018 tournament in Russia.

The tournament will be re-introduced in 2020. [3]

2014 Copa América Femenina

The 2014 Copa América Femenina was the seventh edition of the Copa América Femenina, an association football competition for women's national teams in South America affiliated with CONMEBOL. The tournament was played between 11–28 September 2014 in Ecuador.

The CONCACAF–CONMEBOL play-off for the 2016 Summer Olympics was a men's under-23 international football play-off between a team from CONCACAF and a team from CONMEBOL, with the winner qualifying for the final berth in the 2016 Summer Olympics men's football tournament.

The 1992 CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament began on 31 January 1992, and is the 9th CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament. This was the 1st tournament is open to players under the age of 23 without any other restriction. There is no qualification stage and all 10 member of CONMEBOL automatic qualified. The winner and the runner-up qualified for 1992 Summer Olympics. Players born on or after 1 January 1969 were eligible to play in this competition.

The 1996 CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament began on 18 February 1996 and was the 10th CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament. This was the second tournament open to players under the age of 23 without any other restriction. There was no qualification stage and all 10 members of CONMEBOL automatically qualified. The winner and the runner-up qualified for 1996 Summer Olympics. Players born on or after 1 January 1973 were eligible to play in this competition.

The qualification for women's football tournament at the 2004 Summer Olympics.

Water polo competitions at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru are scheduled to be held from July 28 to August 10. The venue for the competition is the Water polo pool located at the Villa María del Triunfo cluster. A total of eight men's and eight women's teams competed in each tournament. This means a total of 176 athletes are scheduled to compete.

The 2018 South American Under-18 Futsal Championship was the 2nd edition of the South American Under-18 Futsal Championship, the biennial international youth futsal championship organised by the CONMEBOL for the men's under-18 national teams of South America. The tournament was held in Luque, Paraguay between 22–29 March 2018. Different from the first edition, it was played as an under-18 tournament instead of an under-17 tournament.

There will be 12 teams that qualify for women's football at the 2020 Summer Olympics. In addition to host nation Japan, 11 women's national teams will qualify from six separate continental confederations.
