California Shuttle Bus was a private bus company that provides daily bus services between Los Angeles and San Francisco, making one stop in San Jose. Founded in 2003, the company used 47-seat charter buses from MCI. [1]

History

The company launched its services in 2003. [2] The service was initially launched as a $40 one-way service between the Los Angeles area and the San Francisco Bay Area. [1] [2]

In 2008, the company started offering $5 trips, but prices later increased to $25–40. [1] [3] The advent of the $5 fares coincided with the cessation of Megabus service from LA to the Bay Area. [4] Megabus has since resumed service between the Bay Area and Los Angeles.

Service

The company offered once-daily bus service between Los Angeles and San Francisco/San Jose areas comparable to Greyhound or Amtrak Thruway Motorcoach, the former its main competitor [5] Bus stops were located at major transit centers, hotels, and downtown areas. [6] In Northern California, major stops included Powell Street station in downtown San Francisco and San Jose Diridon station. [1] In Southern California, major stops were at Union Station, Santa Monica, Hollywood, and North Hollywood Metro station. [1]

Greyhound Lines intercity bus company

Greyhound Lines, Inc., usually shortened to Greyhound, is an intercity bus common carrier serving over 3,800 destinations across North America. The company's first route began in Hibbing, Minnesota in 1914, and the company adopted the Greyhound name in 1929. Since October 2007, Greyhound has been a subsidiary of British transportation company FirstGroup, but continues to be based in Dallas, Texas, where it has been headquartered since 1987. Greyhound and its sister companies in FirstGroup America are the largest motorcoach operators in the United States and Canada.

Amtrak Thruway Motorcoach Intercity coach company

Thruway Motorcoach is Amtrak's system of Amtrak-owned intercity coaches, locally contracted transit buses, through-ticketed local bus routes, and taxi services to connect Amtrak train stations to areas not served by its railroads, or stations which are disconnected temporarily due to service delays or track maintenance issues. Train and Thruway Motorcoach tickets are purchased together from Amtrak for the length of a passenger's journey, and the connections are timed for convenient dedicated and guaranteed-reliable transfers between the two services. In addition to providing connecting service to unserved areas, some Thruway Motorcoaches operate as redundant service along well-established passenger rail corridors to add extra capacity.

Powell Street station Rapid transit station in San Francisco Bay Area

Powell Street station is a combined BART and Muni Metro rapid transit station in the Market Street Subway. Located under Market Street between 4th Street and 5th Street, it serves the Financial District neighborhood and surrounding areas. The three-level station has a large fare mezzanine level, with separate platform levels for Muni Metro and BART below. The fare mezzanine will also connect to the Union Square/Market Street station when it opens. The Powell-Mason and Powell-Hyde cable car lines turn around at Powell and Market adjacent to the station and Hallidie Plaza.

It was called a "cheap alternative for students"; although originally envisioned to attract upmarket travelers from long waits at airports, it attracted mostly backpackers, senior citizens, business people, and bargain hunters. [2] [7] [8] Patrons could pay a higher fare to guarantee that their adjoining seat is empty for their comfort. [9] Similar to Megabus, California Shuttle Bus used a dynamic pricing model where prices started very low and gradually increased as tickets were sold. Prices generally started at $15. Assigned seating was added in 2013.[ citation needed ] The company suspended services in mid-2017. [10]

Burbank Downtown is a passenger rail station near downtown Burbank, California. It is served by Metrolink's Antelope Valley Line to Lancaster and Ventura County Line to East Ventura with both terminating at Los Angeles Union Station. Amtrak trains do not stop at this station; rather, Amtrak trains stop at the Burbank Airport–South station, several miles to the northwest of downtown Burbank. Megabus started providing long distance motorcoach service from the station on August 15, 2013.

The Highway 17 Express is an Amtrak Thruway Motorcoach route provided by a consortium of entities that provides regional service between San Jose and Santa Cruz County in the South Bay of the San Francisco Bay Area. The service is so called because it travels on California State Route 17. It is operated by the Santa Cruz Metropolitan Transit District.

BoltBus is an intercity bus common carrier that operates low-cost, non-stop and limited-stop, premium level routes in the northeast and western United States and British Columbia, Canada.

Service began on February 11, 2019; a previous version of the shuttle operated from June 2003 to February 2004.
