The Charminar Express (Train no.: 12759/12760), is an express train that operates between Tambaram, a city in Chennai metropolitan area and Hyderabad. [1] In 2020, the railway board approved the change of terminals from Chennai Central to Tambaram railway station, [2] which is considered as the third railway hub of Chennai. [3] In 2023, the railway board announced the proposal of change of terminals from Tambaram railway station to Nagercoil Junction railway station via the chord line, [4]

Train schedule

Charminar is one of the most prestigious trains of SCR, with 24 coaches (first 24-coacher of SCR). After it got its LHB rakes it was reduced to 22 coaches.

Coach composition

The train consists of 22 coaches.



Moreover, Charminar Express is one of the few trains of the country having CBC (Centre Buffer Coupling) rakes with GPS system. Also the first train to become a CBC. And first 24 coacher of SCR. From 5 November 2019, Charminar Express is being operated with LHB coach and coaches were reduced to 22. [6]

Relevance

This train is named after Charminar, an historical monument in Hyderabad built to mark the victory against the plague epidemic that haunted Hyderabad in the 15th century. "Charminar" refers to the four minarets of the monument on the top.

Traction

It is hauled by a Lallaguda Loco Shed based WAP-7 electric locomotive on its entire journey.

Tambaram Railway Station is an NSG–1 category Indian railway station in Chennai railway division of Southern Railway zone. It is also one of the railway terminals of the Chennai Beach–Tambaram section of the Chennai Suburban Railway Network, situated at a distance of 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) from the centre of Tambaram and 27 kilometres (17 mi) from Chennai Beach station. It is one of the fastest-growing railway hubs outside Chennai Central in the southern direction. Every day, on an average, around 150,000 commuters use the station. About 500 suburban electric trains operate from Tambaram, including those between Chennai Beach and Chengalpattu and Kancheepuram. Narsapur Express Train.No.17255/17256 Narasapur-Hyderabad is a Daily Train. Narsapur Express is one of the busiest trains, running with 23 coaches at full capacity at all times. It has 19 halts and 79 intermediate Stations between Hyderabad Deccan Nampally and Narasapur. Narsapur Express is considered to be one of the most important and prestigious trains of South Central Railway(SCR) which connects the Telangana state capital city of Hyderabad with the Narasapuram town of Andhra Pradesh and is operated with 17255/17256 as train numbers. The train is considered the best way between the two cities and coaches is maintained very neatly by the South Central Railway.

The Secunderabad–Shalimar Express is a Superfast AC Express train of the Indian Railways connecting Secunderabad (SC) to Kolkata Shalimar (SHM). It is handled by the South Central Railway zone (SCR). The train was announced in the 2012 Annual Railway Budget of India and its rake was rolled out in September 2012. The train stops at 14 stations en route, connecting major cities like Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Bhubaneswar and Kharagpur. The train runs weekly. The train was flagged off from Secunderabad on 28 May 2013 at 11:00 am by Kotla Jayasurya Prakasha Reddy, the then Minister of State of Railways and Anjan Kumar Yadav, an MP from Secunderabad.

The Silambu Super fast Express (20681/20682) is a train that runs between Chennai Egmore and Sengottai via Karaikkudi Junction. Initially it ran up to Manamadurai, later it was extended up to Sengottai. It was the only train in Indian Railways where LHB rakes were replaced by ICF coaches again. According to IR if a train gets new LHB coaches it won't be converted to ICF. But this train was again replaced with ICF coaches after getting new LHB rakes.

It is currently being operated with 12389/12390 train numbers on a weekly basis. From 10 January 2021,the terminal was changed from Chennai Egmore to Chennai Central. The 17005 / 17006 Hyderabad–Raxaul Express is an Express train belonging to South Central Railway zone that runs between Hyderabad Deccan and Raxaul Junction in India. It is currently being operated with 17005/17006 train numbers on a weekly basis. The train was cancelled due to the closure of the Dhanbad – Chandrapura line. This train is restored on its original route. It will commence its first journey as 17005 Hyderabad Raxaul Express on 4 July 2019 and from Raxaul as 17006 Raxaul Hyderabad Express on 7 July 2019.
