Smelser is a town in Grant County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 756 at the 2000 census. The unincorporated communities of Bigpatch, Elmo, Georgetown, and Saint Rose are located in the town.
Grant County is a county located in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2010 census, the population was 51,208. Its county seat is Lancaster.
A post office called Elmo was established in 1875, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1924. [2] The community was named after the 1866 novel St. Elmo [3] by Augusta Jane Evans.
