Granada Gate was a city gate in the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar. The gate was constructed during Gibraltars "Islamic period." [1] It was the main entry point by land to the old town of Gibraltar [2] at the time of it's Marinid occupation during the 14th century. [3] The gate was called the "Granada" gate due to the gate facing towards the city of Granada. [3] The gate was destroyed by the British during the 18th century as part of an attempt to modernize and upgrade Gibraltar's defenses. [1] [4] Artifacts such as ceramics dating from the 14th to 18th centuries were recovered from excavations of the site. [1] [4]
