The University of Indonesia is a public university in Depok, West Java and Salemba, Jakarta, Indonesia. It is one of the oldest tertiary-level educational institutions in Indonesia, and is generally considered one of the most prestigious universities in Indonesia, along with the Gadjah Mada University and Bandung Institute of Technology. In the 2024 QS World Universities Ranking, UI is ranked 1st in Indonesia, 49th in Asia and 237th in the world.

The annual jazz festival is held every early March and was designed to be one of the largest jazz festivals globally. I Dewa Gede Budjana is an Indonesian guitarist, songwriter and composer. He is the lead guitarist and songwriter of the band Gigi. In his early experience, he established a band called "Squirrell" which was popular in the local community. Brawijaya University, is an autonomous state university in Indonesia established on 5 January 1963, in Malang, East Java. MALIQ & D'Essentials is a jazz and soul music based band from Jakarta, Indonesia. Since their appearance in the Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival in 2005, Maliq & D'Essentials popularity has increased, especially among young people in Jakarta.
The Trisakti shootings, also known as the Trisakti tragedy, took place at Trisakti University, Jakarta, Indonesia, on 12 May 1998. At a demonstration demanding President Suharto's resignation, Indonesian Army soldiers opened fire on unarmed protestors. Four students, Elang Mulia Lesmana, Heri Hertanto, Hafidin Royan, and Hendriawan Sie, were killed and dozens more were injured. The shootings triggered a riot and nationwide revolutionary wave, leading to Suharto's resignation later the same month.
Erwin Gutawa Sumapraja is an Indonesian composer. In 1985, he started his professional music career by joining the jazz band Karimata, later becoming an independent composer in 1991. As a composer, he won the 1992 Midnight Sun Song Festival in Finland, together with Ruth Sahanaya. In 2001, he won the Anugerah Musik Indonesia award for best music arranger for his concert Rockestra.

Universitas Indonesia Station (UI) is a railway station located in Pondok Cina, Beji, Depok, West Java, Indonesia. The station is located on the eastern perimeter of University of Indonesia complex, between Pondok Cina Station and Universitas Pancasila Station. This station is one of two railway stations serving University of Indonesia along with Pondok Cina Station, about 1 kilometer to the south which is located closer to the university rectorate building.

Ari Kuncoro is an Indonesian banker, economist, author university administrator, and the current rector of the University of Indonesia. He took office on 4 December 2019, succeeding Muhammad Anis. Before becoming the rector of the University of Indonesia (UI), Ari taught at the Faculty of Economics and Business, becoming the faculty's dean from 2013 until 2019. Ari also held the office of chief commissioner of the Bank Negara Indonesia since 2017 and continued to hold the office after he was elected rector. Ari ended his term as chief commissioner in February 2020 and assumed the office of deputy chief commissioner of the Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) in the same year. His new post sparked protests from the university's internal, who demanded he resign from his position in BRI as it violated the university statute. In response to this, the government removed the limitations from the university statute in a controversial amendment, but Ari later resigned from his position in BRI in July 2021.
Sujudi was an Indonesian physician and academic who became the country's Minister of Health from 1993 until 1998. Previously, he worked in the University of Indonesia as a lecturer, with his highest office being the university's rector from 1986 until 1994.
